hour. this is in mexico city. some parents say that they have received text messages from their children who remain trapped. crews have been able to get through the rubble and rescue some people so there is still some hope out there. other problems in mexico, we're seeing massive power outages and a lot of people who are just hurt, injured, need to be treated. what might be making this all terrible is just weeks ago an 8.1 earthquake hit in mexico. they're still reeling from that. two natural disasters close together. eun? >> that is tough. angie, thank you so much. i know you're monitoring the situation. we'll check back in with you. this earthquake hit 32 years ago to the day after a 1985 quake that killed 10,000 people. 3,000 buildings were destroyed in mexico city leaving thousands of people homeless. that earthquake was a magnitude 8.1. the after shock caused gas mains to break causing fires and explosions throughout

developing this morning, an urgent plea from prince gorges county police to lock your doors and windows especially at night. we told you about this case this past saturday. a college park woman was sexually assaulted by an intruder around 3:30 in the morning. this happened on gilford road two miles from the university of maryland. the man entered through an unlocked window. there are two other cases police are looking into right now. all three happened on the same street in college park between 1:00 and 3:30 in the morning. if you smell gasoline when you're driving through alexandria this morning, the fire department says not to worry. yesterday workers had to clean up a fuel leak at a gas station on king street near 395. they had to shut down the block. the alexandria fire department says that smell will linger for a bit, but it is not dangerous. now we turn to decision 2017 and a pivotal debate in the virginia governor's race. the two major party

lieutenant governor northam and ed gillespie shared the stage last night. overall it was mostly a cordial debate as you might expect with northam and gillespie agreeing on issues. these candidates sparred on taxes and on sanctuary cities. they answered questions about whether the state's confederate stat use should be taken down or left alone. that came from virginia voters who had violence in charlottesville. >> when you are on the side of preserving the evil institution of slavery, you're on the wrong side of history. our history is our history and i believe we need to educate and teach about it. i would think the stat use would be better placed in museums with certainly historical context, but i am leaving that up to the localities. >> now the

asked about metro funding. northam and gillespie agreed the transit agency is in northern virginia. neither would commit on how to meet the challenge. the direct question with that, maryland's governor says he'll put up $500 million. neither will say they will do it. they want metra to come up with changes. how do you do that if the money isn't there? >> do you think they did enough to differentiate themselves and show their policy? >> there were some similarities in the things they want to do. they were able to distinguish themselves when it comes to taxes. ed gillespie wants a 10% across the board tax cut and ed northam saying that's not the thing. we'll see the polls move apart. today we're going to find out whether work will start on the georgetown branch

$1 million in ticket revenue, a single camera. so now the council's asking ddot to review all speed camera locations to see if there are more so-called speed traps. the top offender is the camera on k street which runs under washington circle northwest. in 2016 it generated more than $11 million in these automated speeding tickets. aaa says some of the most lucrative cameras are nowhere near schools or residential areas. that's why people who oppose them say it is a money making machine. >> they're at the bottom of hills. >> always. >> unless you ride your brake you're going to speed up or the top of hills you have to accelerate to get to the top of the hills. that's why you get the term speed trap. council member is asking ddot to review speed limits and signage to make sure it is fair. >> i do slow down when i see one, that's for sure. >> which is the point, i guess.

pregnant maryland woman and the boyfriend who is accused of setting her on fire. the 30-year-old woman filed two protective orders against laquan phillips. in one she said he sent her threatening text messages. phillip is now charged with attempted murder for setting her on fire earlier this month. she is still in critical condition. arlington county police say they found a credit card skimming device at a busy gas station monday afternoon. the device was at the exxon station at old dominion drive and military road. police say you can protect your money by using a credit card or paying inside the next time you fill up. it may cost more to register your car and get a new driver's license. they're facing a more than $16 million operational short. the dmv commissioner laid out several options
