it may involve a hydrogen bomb. chris lawrence is at the live desk to tell us why that is so significant. >> it is fusion versus fission. a hydrogen bomb is so much more powerful than what the u.s. dropped on japan. the u.s. has been going back and forth with north korea for months. president trump promised fire and fury and called kim jong-un rocketman. kim fired back at the president personally. he has never done this before. he called the president mentally deranged. the original statement was in korean. the inexact translation came out as dodar. that word is trending

nationally. mayor y may it basically means idiot. a hydrogen bomb would certainly raise the stakes. 30 hours after the earthquake hit mexico, rescuers pulled an elderly woman alive from the rubble. a big boost for the rescue teams that have been working on no sleep, barely any food. at least 50 people have been pulled to safety since the major earthquake hit on tuesday. it continues at a collapsed school. the mexican navy saying those reports we have been hearing about a 12-year-old girl being trapped alive, they were not true. >> remember, we had talked about frida and this rally in the country and around the world to rescue her. officials are trying to figure out how that story got started. at least 273 people have died and 1900 are hurt. now to

concerning hurricane maria. >> the 5:00 a.m. advisory just coming in. chuck bell, what does it show us? >> still, a very strong category 3 hurricane. let me get my graphic up. here we are. here comes hurricane maria's information. still, a big threat to the turks and caicos down in the caribbean. 120-mile-an-hour sustained wind. there is the turks and caicos islands right there. dominican republic is moving away from there. with time, very good news. with this forecast track, it continues to take it away from the continental u.s. for the next couple of days. there is bermuda right there. so far, it looks like it is still going to be able to thread the needle between the outer banks and bermuda. a little bit back to the west. that's not until wednesday of next week. mainly just open water the next couple of days. we will have to

make sure it gets any closer to the u.s. after all that devastation, it is now headed back over the turks and caicos. look at weekend forecast coming up. chuck, thank you. >> puerto ricans have been posting countless pictures of the damage left behind. in was the second hurricane to impact that island this month alone. one man posted this video. it shows the damage in his neighborhood, what was a neighborhood. he credits concrete homes for saving lives. meanwhile, nearly all of the u.s. territories, 3.5 million residents are without electricity, something expected to last for months. 5:06. developing this morning, a third suspect in the violent kidnapping and rape in frederick, maryland, is still on the loose. frederick police say a girl was kidnapped and raped earlier this month. two men are behind bars. derrick is live with more. how the victim says

>> the frederick police say the victims and the suspect attended the same high school. three men grabbed the girl. she was unlocking the door to her family's apartment. edgar chikez hernandez and victor antonio gonzalez gutierrez. the police say the men raped the girl while the third suspect wore a mask and filmed. the police are looking through the suspect's social media profiles. any say it was planned and discussed on social media. still under investigation whether gang activity played a part in the crime. it is 5:07. many of you have been talking on loin about the surprising story of a local massage therapist accused of sexually abusing customers. the suspect was in court and declined a plea agreement. we also learned that more victims have come forward.

one of them says she was touched inappropriately at a massage business. three other women say they were sexually assaulted at two locations in tenley town and buoy. he will be in court next month. today, we mark the first year of a peoples journey. celebrations as the national museum of african-american history and culture turns one. since the opening, the crowds have not stopped coming. nearly 3 million visitors according to the museum. the anniversary celebration kicks off tonight with a fundraising gala. this weekend, a lot of activities on the grounds. they are free. >> that was a fast year. this has everybody from harriet tubman's hymnal to chuck berry's convertible. you can't go in one trip. you have to go multiple times. molette green will

repeated concussions caused aaron hernandez to have severe brain damage. he suffered from an advanced stage of the disease known as cte. research shows that cte can cause memory loss or even violent behavior. hernandez was serving a life sentence for a murder. in april, he committed suicide inside his prison cell. "usa today" reports that hernandez' family is suing the patriots and the nfl with this new diagnosis. you may remember this dramatic video we showed you from july. a starbucks customer became a hero after he took down an armed robber in fresno, california. he hit him over the head with a chair. well, now, the robber is trying to sue that mom. the mom of the suspect says her son is suing the customer because he was stabbed and cut more than a dozen time. fr

morning. rather light in terms of the volume. in another hour, hour and a half, expect gridlock. that's what maryland's mayor is hoping to ease. let's take a closer look. four new lanes, two in each direction, first on the maryland beltway from the american legion bridge to the wilson bridge. then, on i-270 from the beltway to i-70 in frederick. lastly, additional lanes, four of they will on the bw parkway from d.c. to baltimore city. these would be toll lanes. you would have to pay to use them. a lot of people not too happy about that. the governor says this should ease congestion and if all goes as planned, we should see construction starting in 2019.
