today's demonstration but we want to start with derrick ward he's at fedex field with reactions from fans today. derek? >> reporter: good afternoon. of course before the first kickoff today there was already some back and forth. of course this all stemmed from those protests started pretty much by colin kaepernick but they spread across the nfl and the president weighed in today calling for -- he called for team owners to either fire or suspend or both players who kneel or otherwise protest during the national anthem. that led to some slapback from the nfl. roger goodell spoke out, pretty much against the president's involvement, some of the language he used to identify those players but then we also heard from some of the fans about how they feel about all this as well. we've been talking to folks here in the parking lot and we don't know anything officially from the red skin organization, how

they plan to react. we did get some of the fans to weigh in. >> the president has no business butting in that way. it's ridiculous. all of us in the stands should kneel down and protest and show him how ridiculous we think it is. >> we're protesting for everybody else, the unjustice that they see across the nation. this is a good nation that we live in, but then -- not in all stances. >> the players have their decision they make, their decisions, but i disagree with the political stance and the comments that were made, but at the end of the day everyone has their own decisions to make. >> reporter: now we do understand that some of colin kaepernick's frat brothers, alpha's are going to come out here dressed in red and doing a protest in solidarity with kaepernick's protest. this is far from over even before the kickoff of today's game. live at fed

ward, news4. >> thank you. jim handly is anchoring our coverage from fedex field and joins us live with the afternoon games and what we can expect tonight before the redskins play, jim. >> what an afternoon across the league, the demonstrations did not let up today. the titans took on the seahawks down in nashville today and it was quite a strange sight for fans. take a look at this video that was shot by greg bell of the news tribune this afternoon. neither team took to the field for the national anthem. they both decided to stay in the locker room. players across the league very upset with president trump, philadelphia eagles star running back said, the president was devote, acting like a jerk. we are also getting late word that the oakland raiders offensive line will either sit or kneel during the national anthem before the redskins game inside. to find out what the redskins may do and get a preview of what's going on

let's go to carol maloney. she's in the stadium. hi, carol. >> reporter: no official announcements from the teams but some of the players are trickling out right now. and they're certainly riled up about the latest developments. whether or not they organize a team demonstration remains to be seen. now nbc sports mike treeko was on meet the press earlier today and he joined me just a few minutes ago here to talk about how he understands why players feel the need to not just stick to sports right now. >> it's very hard to find an issue that would have galvanized the league, the players' association, the owners, the rank and file players but this seems to have done that. there certainly were to be balanced fans in some cities who were yelling at some of the players that were kneeling. it was their right to yell and the players' right to do as they see fit. hopefully it'll lead to a dialogue that will help

a mass shooting in a parking lot of a church near nashville, tennessee, has left one dead and six others wounded as church let out this morning. a church usher helped subdue the gunman after he ran and got his gun until officers arrived. two of the victims are in critical condition. republican senators fighting to repeal and replace obamacare insist they can get their health care bill passed this week, but three gop no votes could doom the bill and senators john mccain and rand paul have already come out against the measure and today senator susan collins said it will be hard for her to back the bill. the republican plan wreelz much of the afforbl

maybe a cloud or two more, also it'll feel a bit more sticky out there as we head throughout the evening. for tomorrow, planning your monday out very mild, again these temperatures are going to soar into the upper 80s. a few of us do have a fair shot at hitting that 90 degree marks. right now you can see maria far to the north of turks and caicos. it started to begin its progression to the north and by thursday we're looking at an eastward spin. wins 105 miles an hour, cat 2 storm. here's a look at the latest track. notice how it continues to move north and then it makes that split and veers towards the east. not before, of course, bringing us a few impacts. here's what we're expecting. a lot of cloud coverage on tuesday and wednesday. rain chances are significantly low, about 20% chance but if they do occur, i think the most likely area is going to be east of i-95 on wednesday. keep that in mind and we've got that stronger swell along the
