pulls out thursday we'll get a northwest wind around here. i don't think the storm is going to be close enough to bring much of a rain threat into our region. 72 degrees under a clear sky. one thing you need to worry about with today in addition to the high temperatures, code orange on the air quality. so for the very young and folks with heart and respiratory issue, take it easy for your plans today. temperature wise, 60s to start. 80 by lunchtime today and highs in the 80s to near 90. 95 is the record. that's safe for another year. but the average high now only 76 degrees. so 10 to 15 degrees above average this afternoon with all the sunshine around. then for the next couple days a bit cooler tomorrow. because of maria's proximity, we'll get more cloud cover tomorrow. that will shave a good bit off the feels like factors around tomorrow. near 90 today. low 80s for tomorrow. the next couple days back with the

tonight i'm taking a knee for america. >> here you see it's not just football players taking a knee this weekend at the global citizen festival in new york. stevie wonder highlighted injustice with that move. he knelt on stage with a show of solidarity with professional athletes who have been taking a knee during the national anthem. president trump denounced those players. >> that festival aired on msnbc, which along with comcast is a media partner of that event. people were also coming together for peace in schaar lotsville during a concert for charlott charlottesville. thousands packed the stadium to hear performances from big name there is the roots, pharrell willms

many others. donations were raised to help the families and first responders of the deadly august protests that involved hate groups. this next story might have you looking down a little bit more. this is so bizarre. a woman in virginia was bitten by a copperhead snake while she was inside a restaurant in spoths the county. her foot became the size of a grapefruit after the snake dug into her while she was at the long horn steak house. she said she is out of the hospital. her boyfriend and son killed the snake. a spokesman for the restaurant says they will help her and keep looking for ways to prevent this from happening again. >> a lot of you have been talking about this on the nbc washington facebook page. it's one of those bizarre things that in truth it could happen at any oo

travelers will face troubles getting into the u.s. the president signed a proclamation that adds three countries to the travel ban list. this new plan will replace the one that just expired. valid visas will not be revoked. this was the scene at a tennessee church after police say a man opened fire sunday night. 25-year-old emanuel sampson is accused of shooting a woman as she walked to her car. he then walked through the main door of the church and began shooting indiscriminately. an usher was able to stop him. take a look at this picture. she's been missing since friday when she left her home on bethesda church road in damas s damascus. she was headed to her job but never made it. her family is worried about her. call police if you have seen her. did you see the game? the offense was really clicking. the defense was strong.

named for confederate president jefferson davis. the city has decided to change the road's name, but it needs help. the hearing is happening at 7:30 at the oswald art center in alexandria. today there will be a vigil to remember a 16-year-old who had his whole life ahead of him. he was gunned down in an attempted robbery in southwest washington. police say the academy student and track star stabbed his attacker in self-defense. kelly was on his way home from a college-bound program when he died. on saturday students folded origami swans in his honor. police collected bags of evidence at a homicide and will be looking through it. we told you about this yesterday morning. police say two men were shot on cherry hill road. officers found in the seven springs apartments one of the men died. we don't know

this or whether police have any fleeds this case. fall is here and that means taking your family to the fair. but make sure you wash your hands. the great frederick fair had to close its pig barn after it discovered 11 pigs had the flu this weekend. the frederick news post says a child reported getting sick but the department of health says it's rare for pigs to pass on the disease. wash the hands as a precaution. last week at the charles county fair, seven people came down with the flu after touching infected pigs. a little music, shopping and eating. that's what residents did at the d.c. state fair. the eighth annual event held at the water front. residents indulged in food and contests and a lot more going on the. the weather made for a beautiful day to be at the fair. i think it continues. the skins weren't t
