we will be talking about those coming up in about 15 minutes. >> all right. we'll check in with you then. meantime we're following a breaking story, this is coming to us out of college park near the entrance of the university of maryland. you'll probably see quite a bit of police activity there specifically along route 1. >> it's a serious wreck and derek ward is live there with the look at the crash that took the life of one woman. hi, derek, what's the latest? >> good morning. we're at the intersection of campus way and route 1. right at the main entrance to the university of maryland. take a look at the scene. campus way north is closed between -- i'm sorry, route 1 is closed between campus road and lakeland and this is because of this fatal pedestrian incident that happened about an hour ago. we're told that the person struck was a woman. she was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. the vehicle and the driver stayed on scene. th

for awhile you had north and southbound traffic blocked but now only the northbound traffic is being blokd. it's also effecting some metro bus routes as well so if you take a metro bus up and down route 1 in the morning, you may experience, may be experiencing some delays as the buses have to work around this one block closure while police investigate this incident. judging from the scene here it doesn't appear the person was struck in the crosswalk because the cruisers would not be parked there. that would then be an active part of the scene but as you can see there there's a lot of evidence collection going on there and reconstruction as is usually the case when there's a fatal pedestrian incident here. now the university of maryland and route 1 had this issue with pedestrian traffic and fatalities and accidents for quite sometime. been a lot of improvements through here. especially south of here sbup the main campus and commercial area. not so much here but there's crosswalks that are marked and there are

billie had been missing for nearly two weeks. she was last seen at a naval base where she worked. her car was found several miles away. her cell phone found in a dumpster a few miles from base. then a break in the case came friday morning. a landscaper found remains behind a church in charlotte hundreds of miles from norfolk. an autopsy confirmed those were the remains of their 19-year-old daughter. she was a culinary student from prince george's county. >> she is home with god and we're okay with that. >> her father spoke about the national anthem controversy. he addressed president trump directly. >> i say to you mr. president, finding young folks, missing folks, is more important than people standing up for the anthem and i'm a vet rand and served this country and i earned the right to voice this. >> that was darcy spencer reporting. now stay with news 4 for continuing coverage on

the fbi determined to find billie's killer. read the statement and watch the entire news conference with her parents in the nbc washington app. >> i told you this would be happening yesterday and today. it's the day. new laws now in effect in maryland that could save you money and protect your children. the biggest change here has to do with prescription drugs. maryland could become the first state in the country to take action against drug manufacturers that price gouge. so the new law prohibits gouging for off patent or generic drugs. it's called the whistleblower protection act and makes sure that all school employees feel safe reporting unlawful activities. you can take a look at all the new laws, our digital team setting them up for you in the nbc washington app. all you have to do is search new laws. >> turning to the latest out of puerto rico. a lot of you asking us to keep you updated on that. federal officials sayy'

making progress in the recovery efforts. >> even a lot of rain now so relief weather wise the next couple of days. they are working to restore water, gas and communications to the island but some say that progress is not coming fast enough. a lack of fuel for trucks is blocking the delivery of supplies and as of yesterday only 5% of the island has electricity. has the lights back on . the governors office says a barge carrying a million and a half liters of water was to be delivered. and president trump praising theel federal response in puerto rico while hitting his critics at the same time. in a new series of tweets, this warning, the president tweeted we have done a great job with the almost impossible situation in puerto rico. outside of the fake news or politically motivated ingrates. he goes on to thank the first responders for their work. this comes after his twitter rant against the mayor of san juan yesterday.

stopping the crowds. you can see officers wearing riot gear smashing their way into a polling station this morning. chanting crowds have been fighting back and scuffles are breaking out. the region is fighting to break away from spain for several reasons including to have more control over it's government and finances. however spain's central government says the referendum is illegal. we have learned that 337 people have been injured in this incident thus far. >> now to a developing story that must have been really scary and startling for passengers. two american airline planes bumped into one another. this happened at reagan national yesterday morning. airport officials we have spoken with them and they say one of the planes wings actually touched the other plane. this is as they were taxing on the run way. the passengers were all off and thankfully nobody was injured. >> let's take you now to this

morning surrounding the death of a baby. we were there as d.c. police were called to the shaw neighborhood. this is on 7th street northwest on saturday but at this point we're still working to get more information. it's not known how exactly the baby died and if anyone has been arrested or even charged in this investigation. still a lot of questions remain. we're working to get the answers for you. we reached out to get the details. detectives not saying much. the search is on for whoever shot two people that were inside of their car early saturday morning. this is a story angie and i were telling you about yesterday morning. the pair was shot at the intersection of new york avenue in northeast. get this, they actually then drove on to the bw parkway and pulled off at an exit to call for help. that's the scene you're looking at right there. there's no word on how exactly they're doing this morning. >> it's a plot twist you may not believe. a man charged with murder ultimately able to prove his innocence with the help of a popular tv show.
