americans dashed into a hail of bullets to rescue total strangers. joining us joining us today are many of the heros who were here during that horrible moment, that horrible night. including las vegas metropolitan police off u sers tyler pet peterson, and it was an officer peterson who was on his second day on the job when the shooting began. i just visited nim the hospital. within minutes he joined a group of u officers rushing between the flying bullets to clear the fairground and save lives. officer gerllay was off duty

and use anything to stop the horrible bleeding. among the wounded was the mother of erin's girlfriend. to every hero we helped, every hero saved so many lives. and believe me, a grateful nation thanks you.

paddock's mental state. they are going to ask whether danley had any knowledge, advanced knowledge of the massacre on sunday night. danny's sisters spoke to nbc news. they say paddocks bought her a ticket to the philippines two weeks before the massacre. they don't believe danley knew anything about the shooting and they think paddock got her out of the country so she didn't interfere with his plans. police say paddock also wired $100,000 to the philippines in the days before the shooting. but right now, it is still unclear what that money was for. and we're learning more about the meticulous planning. there are weapons scattered throughout the hotel suite at the mandalay bay. there were surveillance cameras, one in the peep hole of the hotel room to monitor the situation. bullets were raining down from

dose in this afternoon. park workers discovered the vandalism around 6:30 this morning. they quickly threw a tarp over the damage so tourists didn't see it at its worst. white paint was thrown onto the base seeping into the lettering. that turned out to be the toughest part to clean up. the vandals used gold spraypaint to write the word "dead" over the paint. it's taken an entire crew hours to restore the statue. this is the latest act of vandalism in our area. visitors say if someone is trying to express their opposition, this is the wrong way and the wrong place to do it. >> we have a statue of tom jackson where he got the name stonewall, where can you have it? he was a part of american history. it sickens me that they come here and do

overnight and we see the impressive capabilities on this full service and staffed up very quickly and just about 48 hours with personnel, 800 people on the ship. 50 are doctors and on the "comfort." and they are capable of treating hundreds of patients all at once. we can tell you that the medical team on board are prepared to handle everything from dental problems problems to opthalmologist and every surgery except complicated heart surgeries and even are ready for labor and delivery on "comfort." i met a nicu team. they are hoping that they'll get a chance to deliver a baby on the ship. most of the people on the ship have just come together. today, i talked with a couple of doctors who usually work at

right now at 4:30, we're working on the latest in the investigation into the las vegas massacre. today the fbi is questioning the gunman's girlfriend, marilou danley. she arrived back in the u.s. last night. they are hoping that she can shed some light on why stephen paddock opened fire at a concert on sunday. danley's family believes that paddock bought her a ticket to the philippines a few weeks ago so she didn't get in the way of the plans to carry out that shooting. right now, we're keeping an eye on the airport in las vegas. the first lady and president trump are leaving any moment now. they spent the

responders and victims of the massacre. blayne alexander is at the white house to break it down for us. blayne? >> reporter: that exclusive report had to do with his secretary of state rex tillerson. tillerson over the summer was right on the verge of quitting, resigning from his position, because he was fed up with president trump but he was essentially talked off the ledge by the vice president. tillerson today held a rare news conference to push back on that report. he said that the president didn't ask him to issue a public statement. rather, tillerson wanted to speak himself and make it clear, he's happy with his job. secretary of state rex tillerson, who rarely speaks to the media, forcefully denying that he was so frustrated with president trump that he considered quitting. >> there's never been a consideration in my mind to leave. i serve at the appointment of the president and i am here for as long as the president

new track that's come out. still a tropical depression 16 but we're very sure that it's going to be a tropical storm either later tonight or early tomorrow morning. take a look. this graph shows you the peak times. hurricanes start to peak around september and the second peak is mid-october. this is where we are working towards. there are weaker storms but they potentially impact us a little more with the track and how we start to see fronts return to the area. so where do tropical storms form in october and why are we talking about them not forming anymore? doug mentioned forming off the coast of africa. you might have heard of a cape verde hurricane. we've had two of those so far this season.
