sport. good evening, i'm jim hanley. >> doreen is on assignment. investigators believe steven paddock spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo, and lived a secret life. leon harris is at the desk with new details. >> stephen paddock fired hundreds of rounds for a full ten minutes from his hotel roof sunday night. as thousands of people ran for their lives below. he rented a room at the ogden hotel in downtown las vegas about a week earlier through air bnb and that was around the same time as another music festival. investigators recovered

>> some incredibly quick thinking there, new at 11:00 tonight, erin tells us about a new effort to help heal the hurt. there are some pretty big names making this happen. >> we really stumbled across a beautiful effort that's under way in las vegas right now, behind me you see what they're calling a healing garden. this has been an entirely volunteer and donation based effort that started monday night with an idea. and then tuesday morning there were crews on the ground here hard at work as you're seeing right now. the effort to plant some trees there as well, there are paves that will go into a ground. there is a wall behind me that will be a remembrance wall. this has been a volunteer and donation based effort. i want you to hear

person that came up with this idea and pulled together all the elements that were needed to make this happen. >> the process of bringing people together healing, doing something positive, in the wake of a horrific thing. all of a sudden people started donating the paves for the walkways, the trees, that will be planted with a walkway that will wander through it. siegfried and roy generously donated this beautiful tree we're calling the tree of life. >> the idea is to create something beautiful out of something horrific. this will all be completed by friday night, there will be a ribbon cutting and the community will be able to use this healing garden. >> a candlelight vigil to remember the victims of the massacre. this was about more than honoring the victims. the group that

he came down a few days after hurricane maria hit. met with a local chef, and together they fed about 200 people. right away he could see that many thousands more needed help. now this setup is providing 20 to 30,000 meals every day. there are hundreds of volunteers helping. many of whom can't work right now, because the power is still out or their workplace is damaged or closed. if people can't get to this location for food, they're delivering hot meals and more to some of the poorest communities in san juan. these are homeland security staffers getting ready for a delivery, lots of people are pitching in. now he's trying to open more kitchens lying this across puerto rico. there's already a second one on the south side of the island. because it's the right thing to do. >> puerto rico is not a strange

going out without a fight. >> the peak is in the middle of september, we're coming on the down slide now. now we have another storm making its way our way. it does look like this one's forming in an area that we expect it to form in. that's in the caribbean, that's where we're going to be seeing this storm for the next few days. you see that storm right there, just off the coast of nicaragua. starting to get a little better organized. the national hurricane center, right now is a depression, it's expected to become a tropical storm before it makes landfall. bringing them some heavy rainfall. that's something we're going to be watching. >> right now, tropical depression 16. this is the key here just how much land interaction is it going to have. the less land it hits, the more it could strength. s a strong tropical storm, 65

into the central gulf of mexico, very warm water here and very low sheer. this storm could actually increase in intensity fairly quickly. they bring it up to 80 miles an hour, we'll see how strong this gets. bringing it on shore, close to apalachico apalachicola, right around the pensacola area. now, as i mentioned at 6:00, i expected this to shift west a little bit, and they've done that, you notice new orleans is now in the cone of uncertainty. it may shift west a little more, with the next advisory at 5:00 a.m., by that time, we may have tropical storm nate. what happens after this? it moves our way. this will be very good news for us, for the most part, especially if it is a depression. we need the rain from this storm, it looks like it will be the biggest factor. let's talk about the impacts here. tracking the tropics, the impacts in our region would be monday into tuesday. we have a couple days to watch this, hopefully it will be bringing us a lot of rain. we could use a couple

it could bring us strong winds if it's strong enough of a storm. i'm going to be tracking this very closely for you. currently, beautiful 65, winds out of the west. if you like it warmer, i have that for you too. 85 degrees tomorrow. mostly sunny, many areas were in the 80s today. some deal on friday, that means great weather for the nationals game. 85 on friday, 86 on saturday, that game looking good too. sunday maybe an isolated chance of a shower, watching the tropics on monday and tuesday, behind that storm. and this is the storm that brings nate our way. we get much cooler. highs only in the low to mid-60s, and some of the computer models have highs in the upper 50s. >> all right.
