bejo tell, we still don't know why a gunman went on a shooting rampage killing 58 people. the woman who may have known the shooter best said she had no idea what he was planning. marilou danley was paddock's girlfriend. she was in the philippines when he shot more than 500 people at the music festival on sunday. that was a trip she said he paid for. danley released a statement through her attorney explaining why she thought paddock gave her that money. >> honestly, i was worried that first the unexpected trip home and then the money was a way of breaking up with me. >> $100,000 we're talking about. danley's sister believes paddock sent her away so he could carry out his plans uninterrupted. >> sarah dallof has more on the meticulous planning and how it went unnoticed.

fire on the route 91 harvest festival, officials say he rented rooms at a luxury high-rise overlooking a different outdoor concert. >> paddock rented a room at the ogden hotel in downtown las vegas, but it was directly during the same time as life it beautiful. >> according to a newly released timeline, paddock fired the first shots at 10:05 sunday night. officers arrived on the 32nd floor of mandalay bay 12 minutes later, making entry at 11:20. paddock affixed a camera to a cart and he had an escape plan. his girlfriend said she knew nothing about in a statement read by her attorney. >> he never said anything to me or took any action that i was aware of that i understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was

6:30 at hedgeville high school's football stadium in hedgeville, west virginia. take a look now at these pictures. our aaron gilchrist took this of a healing garden that people had set up. aaron is on his way back here but says he's happen that i this uplifting story could be his last story in vegas. very beautiful story there. >> it came from donors. this idea came together monday night after the shooting. tuesday morning crews were planting trees in the city-owned lot ith area where the bullets rained down. they've also set up a wall they're calling a prayer and remembrance wall. people can stop by and leave messages and thoughts about the people who died in the shooting. >> our main premise in the garden was not so much the end re

deferred action for childhood arrivals or daca. today is the day to file renewal requests. if they don't and congress doesn't extend the program, they could face deportation. last month the trump administration said it would rescind daca. it allows undocumented immigrants brought into the u.s. as children to remain in this country. also today, casa will announce it's filing a lawsuit against the administration with the goal of keeping the program. hillary clinton made another late-night tv appearance. she was on "the tonight show." if you're a fan of the show, one of the most popular segments is jimmy fallon's thank you notes. last night the female writers did a special thank you to hillary clinton. >> thank you hillary clinton for handling this difficult transition with more grace than i ever could have imagined. that being said, call me day or night and i will be there with a gallon of iceam

two were injured. multiple sources tell nbc news that ambush was conducted by suspected militants from mali. they have not confirmed the deaths but acknowledged that a hostile fire incident involving u.s. troops did happen. distracted driving, it continues to be a major issue on highways across the country. but some of the new technology in your cars aimed at helping the problem may be adding to the problem. mark barger explains. >> technology options on many new cars can be overwhelming. >> large screens, touch screens. rotary dials, right pads. >> but sophisticated infotainment systems create increased distractions for drivers according to a new study. >> we're making relatively simple interactions more complex. researchers at the university of utah commissioned by the -- examined the

average. we've got a couple more of these ultrawarm days in the very near future. today and saturday. we're in the 70s yesterday. much warmer today. most areas in the low 80s today. mid-80s for tomorrow. saturday also quite warm. may be our last real chance for dry weather because needed, desperately needed rain, chances of that start to move back into the picture on sunday. there is a weather front up to our north. the problem is high pressure is in charge of our weather. that front, though it's going to sag southbound, it's probably never going to get below the mason-dixon line. rain chances, as thin as they are, will mainly be focused along the pennsylvania, maryland border the next day or two. not much of a rain threat in and around town. by 5:00 today, extra cloud cover. future weather keeping us mainly dry. i could rule out an isolated shower literally along t

tomorrow afternoon. sort of that same mix of clouds and sunshine. more clouds to the north. more sunshine down to the south of the d.c. metro area. temperatures, you'll notice it this morning. nowhere near as cool as we've been. parts of shenandoah in the 40s. in the upper 50s and low 60s now. as you plan out your day, plan on the warm weather. a little hint of october humidity as well. the same goes for tomorrow with temperatures up into the mid 80s. we'll be keeping a close eye on that. what will eventually become nate is still way, way, way down to our south for now. but the hurricane center thinks that this becomes a hurricane sometime on saturday and may potentially make landfall near mobile, pensacola late sunday. the moisture from that system comes here monday and tuesday. got that whole extended forecast with my buddy sheena in a few more minutes. okay, chuck. thanks so much. as each day goes by, we're not only learning about the investigation into the las vegas

by the dawn's early light ♪ >> people in las vegas' country music community started a benefit concert singing the national anthem. it took place not far from sunday's shooting. donations were collected with 100% of the proceeds going to the las vegas victims' fund. the fundraised more than $9 million so far.

help a woman from our area who was shot sunday. tina frost was shot in the head. she grew up in anne arundel county and went to anne arundel high school. her family and friends are hoping for a full recovery. news 4's christine wright has more. >> tina frost is fighting to survive. she took a single bullet to the head in las vegas, lost her eye and slipped into a dark coma. her parents are by her side, staying positive. a family spokesperson tells me. close friends like taylor johnson, rushed back home to maryland. >> it was shocking to have like one of your best friends that you grew up with a victim of this horrid act. >> tina, a victim. it's a strange and upsetting things for loved ones to wrap their minds around. after all, tina and taylor's friendship goes way back. they were bridesmaids together, played soccer for years. share a lov

like so many of the victims in vegas. >> it's a different outcome that we would have wanted, obviously. but it could have been worse. >> they credit her boyfriend austin with saving her life. after she was shot, he carried her to a truck, to a stranger who drove her to the hospital where at this moment tina is surrounded by love. a go fund me page raised money for her family. she's got a long road ahead. a spokesperson says she's making small improvements. brain scans show no additional swelling. she's on a ventilator but breathing mostly on her own. >> there's going to be no stopping her. i know she's going to overcome this. it's going to be one day at a time but she'll make it. taylor and her friends from high school are planning other fundraisers because taylor says, tina is like a sister. it's now 4:26 this morning.
