on southbound branch after surratt owe. crews are working at the rock creek parkway at kennedy center. traffic gets by one direction at a time. usually gone by 6:15. eun, chris, back to you. >> jack, thank you. now to the latest on the las vegas massacre. take a look. these are live pictures from las vegas this morning. it's been four days since 58 people were killed and hundreds injured as they were simply trying to enjoy an outdoor music festival. this morning the investigation is widening. >> here's quick breakdown of what we know right now. investigators are still searching paddock's hotel room and his two homes in nevada. they've recovered 47 guns already. the week before the shooting, he rented a room at a nearby hotel at the same time as another music festival. officials are now searching for a mystery woman who was seen with paddock a few days before the

paddock's long-time girlfriend, marilou danley arrived back in the u.s. from the philippines. her attorney says she had no idea what he was planning. she's cooperating with the investigation. president trump and the first lady met privately with some of the victims as well as the law enforcement and first responders. today is going to be another emotional day for some of the first responders. they plan to publicly recount that night during a press conference. >> one of the 58 victims called our area home. denise burditus was from hedgeville, west virginia. tonight the wife and mother will be remembered through a candlelight celebration. the community will gather for a few hours at hedgeville high school football stadium starting tonight. we've been getting updates on tina frost, the 2008 anne arundel high school graduate was shot in the head. she lost and eye and slipped into a coma. her parents credit her boyfriend for saving her life. he carried her to a truck and a

hospital. >> take a look now. this is a go fund me page that's raised more than $326,000 for tina's family. they say she's making small improvements. we posted the link to the go fund me page on the nbc washington app. >> that's a lot of money. a lot of generous people. take a look at these pictures. our aaron gilchrist took this of a healing garden people set up since the shooting. everythinggarden, the trees, so, brick pavers, all came from donations. it's set up in a city-owned lot in the same area where the shooting happened. aaron is on his way back here but he's pretty happy this uplifting story could be his last one in vegas. there is a major development in the battle over gun laws in the district. >> it looks like it could get easier to get a concealed carry permit. news 4's justin finch is live to break down what we've learned. >> reporter: hey there,

sources are telling us there was another option here that d.c.'s attorney general paul racine could have gone to the supreme court for an appeal of all of this. a last-ditch effort to keep that conceal carry law in place. we're told that he will not be doing that. back in july, a three-judge panel ruled 2 to 1 against d.c.'s current conceal carry permit law saying it was unconstitutional. it also has a provision in it calling for a good reason, like a fear of injury or some other proper reason to award that permit. now, racine has argued that other cities and states have similar policies in place and that d.c. really should be no different. however, our sources now telling us today he will announce he will not go to the supreme court for an appeal of this decision in this case. an about face for d.c. of course, right now, with las vegas, lots of

about gun control as well. back to you guys. >> justin, do we know why the judges ruled against the d.c.'s conceal carry law? >> reporter: well, eun, their reason here they say was simple. that this abridges the second amendment right to bear arms. however, racine argued that d.c. was in a unique position being a very dense city with lots of high ranking dignitaries that they should be treated differently. but the judges hearsay the constitution is the constitution and they cannot abridge those rights. back to you guys in the studio. >> all right. justin finch, thank you very much. we have breaking news at 5:07. new numbers about who is going to be the knicks governor of virginia. it's been very tight. molette green at the live desk with the new poll from george mason university and the "washington post." what are you seeing, molette? >> looking over all of this right now. once again, democrat ralph northam pulling farther ahead on widening his lead over ed gillespie. we've crunched the

called on congress to intervene. now, in the meantime a very important deadline is looming. frankly, time is running out for many people. some 48,000 folks have not yet renewed their immigration status under the daca program. here are four things that you need to know if you qualify. first of all, the deadline is today. october 5th. so time is running out. the extension is for two years. people who -- the cost not cheap. $465. now, folks who do not renew, they possibly could face deportation. very important for people who are eligible to actually meet this deadline, file the proper paperwork bit end of today. organizations like casa are trying to get the wore out. they're also going to be taking legal action. press conference will be held here at 10:30. we'll continue to follow the story. back to you

we'll keep you posted on air and online. molette, thank you. a story we told you about earlier in the week. a girl claiming she was sexually assaulted after getting off the school bus. it turns out she made the story up. she told police she was pulled between two parked cars and assaulted in ft. washington. police closed the case yesterday after she told a family member she made up the story after seeing a similar crime on tv. that's too bad. a northern virginia man has been arrested and charged with making racist threats directed at students at a historically black college, howard university. investigators say that 26-year-old john rust of alexandria posted the threat in a chat board in 2014. police found him by tracing his computer hooked up to the wi-fi at a panera bread restaurant in alexandria. some d.c. police officers will be waking up at home after an emotional seven days in puerto

welcome back at 5:25. this morning, one of nfl's most popular players is under fire for what manry calling sexist comments made to a female reporter. this happened during cam newton's weekly news conference. the carolina panther quarterback was taking questions from a writer from the charlotte observer, jordan rodrigue. >> devon funchess seemed to embrace the physicality of his routes and getting the extra routes. does that give you enjoyment? >> it's funny to hear a female talk about routes. it's funny. >> okay.

went on a shooting rampage killing 58 people. the team coverage of the las vegas mass shooting. tracie potts live on capitol hill with more on gun control fight. >> but we want to start with nbc's jay gray flief las vegas. is there any chance that stephen paddock had help planning this massacre? >> reporter: good morning, chris, eun. for the first time since this investigation started since the attack, last night the sheriff here in las vegas suggested that at some point he may have had some help in the attack. does that mean acquiring the weapons? does that mean moving them into place along with all of the ammo? we know he had more than -- that he had thousands of rounds of ammunition that were left behind unfired. they also want to know where he got a significant amount of explosives that were uncovered in his car. police are saying that in the days leading up to the attack, he was actually seen with another woman, not his

it. it may be a point of consensus in this contentious debate over gun control. background checks, banning automatic weapons. that doesn't have a consensus. but the bump stocks might. lawmakers are doing their homework. even though the owners familiar with guns all their lives have said none of them even heard of these devices. dianne feinstein, democrat from california introduced a bill, lots of her colleagues signed on to it to ban the sale, manufacture or possession of the accessories known as bump stocks. some republicans seem willing to sign on. we don't know, chris and eun, how long it will take for the legislation to work its way through. >> all right. thank you very much, tracie. a lot of families are waking up worried, concerned about the future. >> today is the final day for deferred action for childhood arrivals or daca recipients to file their renewal requests.

[000:48:58;00] with more on a move to extend this program. megan, what is that all about? >> reporter: well, the organization, casa, is going to announce a lawsuit later on this morning in the hope of trying to keep the daca program in place. now, this comes after protesters marched on the white house and called upon congress to intervene. now, in the meantime, a very important deadline is looming. looming for thousands of people and, frankly, time is running out for them. some 48,000 people have not yet renewed their immigration status under the program, and they need to do that. the deadline is today. now, here are four things that you need to know if you are eligible. first of all, the deadline is october 5th. today. that is when you have to file the paperwork here. the extension is two years and the cost is $465. not cheap. people who do not renew, they
