so as it enters the warmer inte least to a category 1 hurricane as it makes land fall early sunday, somewhere in louisiana, mississippi and alabama coast line. again, storm surge flooding will be the concern there. it then continues up toward our area, bringing us rain here on monday. the impacts here, some much needed rain. likely around an inch or less. we could see a little bit more, but i'm not seeing enough right now to lead to flooding concerns here so some good news. we could see some wind. monday might be a storm team 4 weather alert day due to nate and it would be from the rain, guys, versus any sort of wind. the winds we see now would not be damaging here in our area thankfully. leon? >> thanks, amelia. we'll check back with you in a bit. we are also following a developing story in montgomery county where investigators are trying to find a man behind a violent and brazen attack. >> right. a woman waiting at a bus stop in gaithersburg was pulled into these woods and sexually assaulted along

news 4solutely shaken. >> reporter: the attack against a woman waiting at this bus stop this morning is spreading fear in the neighborhood. >> i am very worried because if it happened to someone else, the next time it may be me. >> reporter: this evening detectives returning to the woods where the victim was attacked. police are calling it a sexual assault, a possible rape. they are collecting evidence they hope will lead them to the man who grabbed the woman at this bus stop at about 5:30 this morning. dragged her into these woods, assaulted her and then ran off. police say the victim is physically injured and traumatized. >> right now our detectives are still trying to interview her, obtain some information about the suspect and we're trying to identify him. >> i am in fear. >> reporter: margaret tells me she takes the bus two or three times a week, but after today's attack here, she is switching to another bus stop

>> i will go in another station or where there is more people. >> reporter: local resident christine washington says she's keeping a closer eye on her young children. she is shaken by the attack which occurred just across the street from her home. >> actually, just pretty much walk them where they have to go and then i tell my older son just be careful if you have to catch the bus because obviously it's not safe any more. >> reporter: now, police say the man responsible for the sexual assault here at this ride-on bus stop remains on the loose tonight. he is a danger. so, they are asking anyone with information to help them catch him to give police a call. that's the latest live in gaithersburg. leon, erica, back to you. >> scary stuff out there. thank you, chris. while you were at work today we learned some new details about what the las vegas gunman did before the mags kerr. nbc confirms stephen paddo

tracer rounds last in the dark. irs records show that he earned at least $5 million in 2015, most of that by gambling. and there is still no clear motive for the killings and no credible information to support claims with a connection -- of a connection with isis. nbc's sara dallof is in las vegas and she's digging into two more puzzling discoveries and both of them make it clear paddock wasn't always alone in his room. >> reporter: high above the las vegas strip, workers replacing the windows shattered in sunday's attack. while in the shadow of the hotel, 58 lives recognized by people bringing flowers, candles and prayers. >> i felt like it was something i needed to do, pay respect for those that were lost in this insanity. >> reporter: five days after the attack, investigators are trying to determine if anyone else was in gunman stephen paddock's hotel suite while he was staying there,uz

going toe tmer, now former hhs secretary where you can have an acting -- this is something that impacts the world. long term no. there is a huge asia trip coming up in november. the president's first visit to china, rex tillerson, in fact, just came back from a trip to china where he was doing some of the sort of laying the groundwork for this. everybody we talked to said they have to get through this trip. you can't have a new secretary of state coming in. but unless there is just some sort of spontaneous reconciliation between these two, it's a marriage that's over between those two, but they just haven't decided when they're going to sign the divorce papers. >> could it be the end of the year? >> i don't think he does. it depends what your definition of end of the year is. january 20th, right? is it november right after election day? i think as soon as this asia trip is over and as soon as they figure out who they want there, i think that's the

maximalist view of the second am longer conversation about this. he believes in some ways the right to bear arms he says predates the constitution as far as the founders are concerned. he is a very maximalist position on what that -- what the second amendment covers on that front. and when you hear him, you'll see that this is why there is this -- just a huge gulf, okay, between -- and steve scalise, he's not one of those -- he doesn't sugar coat his position on this. he's not trying to -- he has in his mind a very principled position. you have those who want more regulation here. we're not going to get anywhere. politics didn't change. bump stocks are going to go. that's because many republicans view it as a loop hole. so, i think that's gone. but the politics didn't change. here's when it's going to change. it will change when somebody loses reelection because they didn't support gun control regulation. right now i can give you a long list of

>> -- gun col. i have a tiny list, nonexistent. until that changes, then the conversation -- >> we have a second here to talk about one other campaign. the virginia governor race between ed gillespie and ralph northam. president trump weighed in, tweeting something about ralph northam is fighting for ms-13 and sanctuary cities. some folks are thinking that might backfire on him. >> you know, i'll be honest. i have been scratching my head at how the gillespie campaign has been using this ms-13 issue. i think this is a very serious issue that law enforcement is dealing with in virginia. i think it is not -- i think they are assuming a higher level of knowledge by the voters on this issue than people realize. i think it is not -- i'll be curious to see. i think they believe that combining ms-13 with the immigration issue as a whole and that president trump has

racing through the caribbe weekend as a hurricane. >> amelia draper kicks off our team coverage from the storm center. mel, so how far away is this from impacting us, when does it become a rain maker? >> it becomes a rain maker columbus day. if you have that three-day weekend, you already had plans, out with the kids, you might want to make back up plans. i'll show you where nate will have the biggest impact on the gulf coast. you can see from new orleans on into parts of the panhandle of florida there. we are looking at hurricane warnings, hurricane watches, tropical storm watches and warnings as well. and these tropical storm watches continue up into a good part of alabama. so, this means these areas right along the coast here from new orleans out toward pensacola could not only see some rainfall stacking up to about 1 to 3 inches, but more importantly, storm surge flooding and some strong gusty winds that will lead to some wind damage and power outages as

>> reporter: it's a building in d.c. that's rarely attracted news or tourists in the past. in september that changed. reports of a gunshot triggered a major police response at the headquarters of the environmental protection agency. it turned out to be a false report, but security scares here are on the rise. do people truly threaten to kill e palomino, a workers? >> yes, yes, yes. >> reporter: federal records obtained by the i-team show investigations into threats epa workers have soared this year from 40 to 70. a large number of them threats against the new administrator. patrick sullivan investigates the threats for the epa office of inspector general. health and protecting agency immersed in hot button issues. >> it engenders a lot of emotion. some people who are emotional will act out by sending a message or making a phone call. the worst

>> reporter: in one case the accused is a herself. barbara jordan is awaiting trial in d.c. accused of sending an e-mail threatening to murder former head gina mccarthy and other colleagues. writing she was out side the hotel and i'm going to murder those expletives and i hope they drop dead like flies. she has pleaded not guilty. here is the biggest spike in threats. scott pruitt at times a politically contentious choice, hot button issues like climate change and air pollution. the epa has its own internal security and has increased the protection of pruitt to 24 hours a day 7 days a week according to multiple reports. no one with the epa would speak with the i-team on camera about this. >> as long as your name is visible, you are a potential target. >> reporter: but it's not the only federal agency seeing a rising number of threats. federal agents have investigated more than

the tsa in the look out for thi guy that you see on your screen. he goes by several names, but they are pretty similar. he tries to get into sensitive areas claiming he's a passenger, an employee, or a crew member. >> just imagine walking outside going to your car. the car that you work so very hard to buy, and you get there and the tires are missing. well, that happened to a man in bowie. thieves left his new honda sitting up on bricks. but he's not alone. crooks smashed windows and grabbed phones and electronics out of 50 cars in the last two days in prince george's county. that's roughly one break-in every hour. the owner of the honda didn't want to show his face, but he says he feels violated. >> i'm a hard working guy, you know. and for somebody to just come through in the middle of the night to take something i work hard for, i don't know, man, it's sad. >> well, you can't exactly hide your tires, but police want peop t

baseice alexandria. today prosecutors released a chilling play by play of that shooting. >> the report says the gunman had been planning the attack for months. news 4's mark segraves takes us through that report. >> reporter: the gunman came to washington in march from his home in illinois and began planning his attack as early as april. according to the report from the commonwealth attorney for the city of alexandria, 66-year-old james hodgkinson had video of the alexandria baseball field on his cell phone that was shot back in april, months before the attack. and he had been seen several times around the ball field in the months and days leading up to the shooting. during that attack, the suspect fired at least 70 shots, and police fired at least 40 times. according to the commonwealth's attorney, it was congressman steve scalise who was shot first. then matthew micah, a lobbyist, was shot in the chest. the

it expands the exemption to rel moral objections and it also expands the types of companies which can opt out. the old exemption was for small religious groups. well, now any nonprofit organization or private company, and even some public companies, can opt out. higher education institutions and hospitals with religious affiliations, they can also qualify. now, the administration is making these changes based on the definition of what they call preventive care. the obama administration argued contraceptives are preventive because they stop unwanted pregnancies. that mean they had to be covered at 100%. but the trump administration says contraceptives can also cause medical problems and as a result aren't necessarily required as preventive medicine. women's groups are arguing this will leave thousands if not millions of people without needed coverage. but the trump administration argues that 99.9% of women will remain covered. they also say the federal government subsidizes many other groups which

rain be is in thefocast. especially during the second half of the day right now. you want to keep that in mind. we need the rain and the good news there are more rain chances in the forecast next week. tomorrow, though, we're dry. 84 for a high. partly sunny skies and it will be a bit breezy so nice outside during the afternoon and evening hours. now, on sunday, some light showers are likely at times, otherwise cloudy skies around. 79, i do want to stress sunday, not a bad day overall. we will have plenty of dry time on sunday as we look to monday we're going to get some moisture from what's left of nate. take a look at nate right now. winds at 60 miles an hour. really moving quickly at 21 miles an hour. it does ng look like it will -- the eye at least will pass over the yucatan peninsula. what that means it won't help to tear that storm apart. so, it could quickly intensify to at least a category 1, maybe a category 2 hurricane as it takes aim for parts of the gulf coast, including parts of louisiana, mississippi, alabama. and then on into florida. and then look at the track.
