investigators are searching for a motive in the attack. sarah dollof has the latest from los sv las vegas. >> reporter: home and healing. 26-year-old samantha feronda is out of the hospital after being shot four times during sunday's pass ke massacre. >> i'm just grateful that i didn't have to completely say good-bye to all the people that i love. >> reporter: more than 300 of the injured have been treated and released. police's search for the gunman's motive has come up short. they're launching a billboard campaign, asking anyone who has valid information to contact them. >> we're confident there was not another shooter in that room. what i cannot confirm today, and what we continue to investigate, is whether anybody else may have known about this incident before he carried it out. >> reporter: investigators also believe no one entered the mandalay bay hotel suite while stephen paddock's car was out of the garage. they matched all cell

reported. someone was on the back deck when it happened and went door to door, knocking on the doors to let folks know the fire was here, it's going on. got a lot of people out. the firefighters still had to treat a few people. there are families displaced now. the red cross is helping them out. the smallest of sources caused this problem. it was a transformer from a laptop charger. sometimes they can heat up. that may have been what happened here. investigators say it is $250,000 worth of damage done to the units here. as we said, the red cross is helping out the folks that were displaced. 85 firefighters here at the height of things last night. small source. big problems last night. luckily, one neighbor told us, this didn't happen later when people were asleep and it could have been worse. live in montgomery county, derrick ward. 9:06. yesterday, we told you about abuse allegations against a montgomery county school employee. now there's been another incident. this time, it involves a substitute teacher and a coach. the disturbing

cory boatman. montgomery county police say he had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old last month. he turned himself in yesterday. boatman taught at montgomery blair high school in silver spring. he was also an assistant football coach there. >> very scary. i mean, i talk to my son a lot. he's 16. he knows to -- he can handle himself. but still, it's a different time now. you have to always make sure you're talking to your teenagers. >> police are urging moe ining parents to talk with their kids. if you think they had an inappropriate contact with boatman, police want to hear from you. let's take you into the district now where a woman who went missing eight years ago might soon be found. pamela butler's former boyfriend agreed to lead investigators to her body. in exchange, jose rodriguez cruz would get a shorter prison sentence. yesterday, he confessed to punching and strangling her.

welcome back. it's 9:10. a suspicious man has tried to get access to airports and planes here in the dr a.c. area here and across the country. >> bizarre. this man is accused of using several aliases to target more than a dozen airports. news 4's jackie benson with a closer look at his suspicious activity and his arrest. >> reporter: this man's behavior is

he's a pilot. he's a passenger. he's a private plane owner. the tsa says those are just some of the lies that this man, salau, told employees at airports around the u.s., including in the d.c. area, in his attempts to secure planes and areas. this was at the college park airport last week. he attempted to enter the property to board a charter flight on which he was not booked as a passenger. >> flight restriction zone close to d.c. we ruls aare always on top of i the tsa counterparts. >> reporter: salou showed up at reagan national on four separate days in july. he claimed he had a private plane and provided a tail number. police were contacted and he was arrested for trespassing. in may in chicago, he showed up at a private aviation terminal and claimed to be a pilot. th

trump administration. that will let more employers opt out of a requirement to pay for contraceptive coverage. the new rule allows more businesses who don't want to subsidize birth control for employees to ask for exceptions for moral or religious reasons. not just religious organizations but businesses of all sizes, schools, universities and non-profits, too. the decision celebrated by religious liberties advocates. >> it creates a narrow and targeted exemption for those who can not in good conscious provide this as part of their health care plan. >> reporter: president trump fulfilling a campaign pledge. >> the first priority of my administration will be to preserve and protect our religious liberty. >> reporter: his administers say the exemptions may apply to only 200 companies and won't affect the vast majority of women. that's based on groups who sued the government to be able to opt out of obamacare's contraceptive requirement. what's kn

start you off with hurricane nate, killing at least 25 people in central america. you see it there, causing severe flooding in nicaragua. now it is swirling toward the u.s. gulf coast and could hit sometime tonight or early tomorrow. officials in louisiana, mississippi, declaring states of emergency, and some people along the coast have been ordered to evacuate. dozens of families kicked out of their homes by a fire. you're looking at chopper 4 video above the scene -- or this is some ground video we have. we do have a view from up above. montgomery county officials saying the fire started in a bedroom in the row of townhouses. the flames quickly spread. several people were treated for smoke inhalation. >> was

some of the damage and also look into the relief efforts that are underway there. this comes one day after vice president mike pence's trip to puerto rico. he got a firsthand look at the devastation left behind from hurricane maria. nbc has more on the vice presidential trip and the struggle that is continuing to restore basic needs on the island. >> reporter: vice president pence traveled to san juan, puerto rico, today, after surveying the damage to the u.s. virgin islands. he attended a breaching on recovery efforts in an army national guard hangar before visiting a church to meet with storm victims. his trip came days after president trump visited puerto rico and praised relief efforts without mentioning the criticism the federal response has drawn. while in puerto rico, mr. pence visited a church and relayed a message from president trump that the administration will be with puerto rico every step of the way. >> the 45

across the street from your workers at irs headquarters? >> it was alarming and it underscores the very negative political rhetoric that is out around the country. >> reporter: concerned irs workers recently contacted the news 4 i-team about the increased activity outside. irs security acknowledged concerns from the hotel in an e-mail last year, the i-team learned. saying the hotel poses a vulnerability and threat to the security of the irs building, that it compromised sight lines and emergency evacuations and cars, including taxis, are unscreened. that's what the i-team found when we checked our car there. valets brought it into a parking garage adjacent to the irs building itself. our cameras never see them check under the hood or around the vehicle. the irs declined to speak on camera about this but said it works well with trump hotel security, monitors security constantly and that the e-mail from last year doesn't reflect the current situation. >> t
