good evening, i'm kristin wright in for erika gonzalez tonight. as hurricane nate approaches the gulf coast, the waves are picking up in southeast louisiana. the barrier islands are under a mandatory evacuation order. tourists have threat island but some say they will ride out the storm. jay gray is standing by in alabama with a live report. we want to start with storm team 4 meteorologist with the latest on nate's track. how does it took? >> well not looking good as it's getting ready to make landfall. i want to go straight to the satellite. we're starting to see nate right now getting ready to make landfall. you see the eye. not very well define. it doesn't have much time to strengthen. once it hits land it will immediately weaken. the chance to make it to a cat 2 storm still there but growing close. still a category 1

we're seeing wind speeds at 90 miles per hour. this is a very quick moving system at about 23 miles per hour. notice what happens, expected to make landfall tonight. still keeping its intensity and then diminishing to a tropical storm as it heads into northern alabama and then we are up next. monday and tuesday we're expecting it to reach the mid-atlantic and northeast region. the biggest change to track that came out at 5:00 it shifted farther north and west but that doesn't mean our area won't be impacted. i'll have a look at those local impacts coming up. in d.c. a woman walking was hit and killed in northeast. she was simply crossing h street at the corner of 10th when a minivan hit her. witnesses tell us she lives in that area. they also saw two people run from the van. the driver stayed. they are still looking into what happened. take a look at this here. fire shooting out of the roof of a town home in north potomac. pretty intense flames.

fire. here's the video. we're told a laptop charging cord in a second floor bedroom. two families had to find somewhere else to stay last night. the fire caused at least a quarter million dollars of damage. panic and fear have subsided in london after a car hit pedestrians injuring 11 people. police say it is not terror related. we have a report from london. >> reporter: british emergency services raced to london's natural history museum after a car struck pedestrians outside the building. london's emergency services say that 11 people were injured. nine of them were taken to the hospital with leg and head injuries while the driver of the car was detained at the scene. footage shows him pinned to the ground by a group of people outside a silver car with a dent in it. now the crash happened at about 2:20 p.m. local time on a day when the area is packed with tourists and locals that have come to v

museums and shops in the area. it sparked initial fears this was a terrorist attack because it bore all the hall marks of previous attacks in london where vehicles were used as a weapon. armed police and helicopters descend on the scene, cordoning off the area and shutting down shops. police were keeping an open mind on this investigation. about four hours after the incident took place the metropolitan police released a statement saying that the incident was a rogue traffic investigation and not terror related so thankfully this was not another terror attack in london. want to take you become to that breaking news we told you about at the top of the show. a plane crash near front royal, virginia. we have live pictures to show you from chopper 4 now. we can tell you one person we know was killed in this crash. this is warren county,

again near front royal. we have this chopper picture to show you. that's the plane there. looks like a pretty bad wreck. again, one person killed in the crash there in front royal, virginia. the plane went down sometime this afternoon. we're working now to get more information about what happened. hurricane nate is racing towards the gulf coast. nbc's jay gray is live in mobile, alabama. one of the areas that could take a direct hit. jay? >> reporter: we just had a burst of rain and wind here. we're in the center of what is the potential strike zone now with landfall just a few hours away. nate now rushing across the warm waters of the gulf, building momentum, intensifying as it barrels towards the coast. 28 million or more from florida through louisiana expected

this could be a record breaker as we haven't seen warm temperatures like this overnight since 2007. we are going to be seeing temps falling into the low 70s again. pretty humid. gusty. that rain chance starts to pick up as we head into the overnight hours. i would say after midnight into tomorrow morning. as far as your forecast for sunday goes, well here comes the rain, folks. temperatures are going to be rising into the upper 70s but like i said the real weather headline is that rain chance. we'll start off with lighter showers early in the morning. as we head towards the noon hour we may get a brief break. very on and off tomorrow. then as we head into monday that's when we'll get the heavier rain. first we got this front moving through. as it starts to approach us we'll see nate, yes, hurricane nate or what will be the remnants of nate get sucked in that moisture ahead of the front and together combine to bring us rain chances on sunday and moan. timing this out.

how we start off with a light shower. as we head into the afternoon brief breaks where we're pretty dry. then sunday night maybe a second opportunity at some rain here. areas that are missing most of the rain tomorrow will be west of the blue ridge, west of i-81 corridor. monday that's when we're going to see our heaviest rain throughout the d.c. metro area. that will be impacting us and that's due to nate. here's a look at the impacts that nate will have on us locally. in our region we're expecting heavy rainfall on monday. lingering showers into tuesday morning as well. we could get winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour here for your moan as well. keep that in mind. much needed rain is on the way. here's a look at the latest track. this came in at 5:00 p.m. today. notice very close to making landfall at this point. that means the chance to strengthen is running out. once we see that interaction

as we head to the top of the week, monday our chance at getting in on some of this rainfall. what i want you to notice the latest track has shifted nate a little farther north and west but does not mean we won't see any of the rainfall. here's a look at your ten day outlook. we're getting rain tomorrow and moan but rain during the middle of the week. now, over to you. right now we continue to follow the deadly plane crash in warren county, virginia. news4 darcy spencer is there. >> reporter: we are here in the 1700 block of ridgeway road in warren county not far from front royal. virginia state police confirm that this plane crash did involve one fatality. let's show you what's happening here behind us. this is ridgeway road. a sheriff's office deputy has the roadway here blocked off. this is a country lane basically leading back into a wooded area. we're told the small plane did crash deep in the

virginia state police are saying they got the call about 1:39 this afternoon. the small private plane went down not too far from the front royal/warren county airport. the faa as well as the ntsb are both investigating. the ntsb tweeted out this was a crash involving a hyper pa 25. it is described as an agriculture type aircraft. this is a very rural area here. we do not see any houses. appears to be mostly farmland. virginia state police not providing a lot of information at this point. we don't know exactly who died in the crash but we're told there was a fire and they are continuing to investigate. i'm darcy spencer in warren county, virginia, news4. >> all right. so yet another big saturday in the college football world. we'll go around the region to check in on
