nate a strong reminder that hurricane season continues through the end of november. nbc news mobile. >> at 10:05 we're learning more about some positive news for the family of a maryland native that was shot in the head during that las vegas massacre. her family says the young woman has been able to breathe a little bit on her own. doctors also say some of her organs are working again. she has been in a coma since the shooting. she graduated from high school in 2008. >> jason aldean was on stage when the gunfire in las vegas overtook the crowd right in front of him and last night he made an appearance on saturday night

paying tribute to those killed and hurt through the words of the late tom petty. he is struggling to understand what happened and how to pick up the pieces. he had this message for everyone touched by the tragedy. >> we hurt for you and we hurt with you. but you can be sure that we're going to walk through the tough times together every temperature is it -- every step of the way because when america is at its best our bond and our spirit is unbreakable. >> 58 people were killed during the shooting and nearly 500 others were injured and you heard jason aldean sang a tom petty song and likely to honor the late music icon. >> it's hard to believe tom petty is also gone. he died from cardiac arrest a day after the shooting. the time is 10:06 and if you want to travel around defendant c. and arlington today keep this in mind. take a look at the map.

>> thank you very much. it's been almost four months since a gunman opened fire on a congressional baseball practice. >> several people including steve scalise were shot and we're getting a look at the planning the gunman did in the months that lead up to the attack. mark seagraves has the details. >> the fwgunman came to washingn in marchand began planning his attack as early as april. the 66-year-old had video of the baseball field on his cell phone that was shot back in april, months before the attack. and had been seen several times in months and days leading up to the shooting. the suspect fired at least 70 shots and police fired at least 40 times. according to the common wealth's attorney it wason

then matthew micah shot in the chest. the third victim a congressional staffer was shot as he lay on the ground trying to hide from the bullets. the gunman was eventually shot three times by police. the use of deadly force was justified. all of those injured was said to be recovering well. his injuries were so serious he remained in the hospital for six weeks after the shooting and only returned to the house floor last week. mark seagraves. news 4. ♪ >> well it was a packed house at the gala theater last night. the national conference of puerto rican women raised $15,000 for the hurricane torn island. the organization has a

a moving company plans to send a shipping container with supplies to puerto rico this past week. you can see the supplies already collected here. diapers, water, cleaning supplies. you can drop off supplies through tomorrow. they're also collecting monetary donations and they plan to ship everything off on tuesday. >> still so much that needs to go to puerto rico, the virgin islands, everybody. >> talking about today some of us woke up with rain and that's going to be the case for the next couple of days. >> yeah. we do have rain right now from a frontal system and then rain for the rest of the week. we need it. we have a little deficit running here. since september 1st here in d.c. we're about three inches behind so we need rain and look at this week. we're going to have some. widespread showers on sunday and into monday a

still a chance for spotty showers and another disturbance wednesday into thursday. we have a frontal system bringing the rain out there right now. that will start to taper off. if you have plans later on this evening you'll start to dry out. nate rolls in overnight. it's moving fast. 22 or 23 miles per hour. that rain will continue on monday and taper off tomorrow late afternoon. you have to pick the kids up from school. coming home from work might not be as bad as when you head in in the morning. here's the future rain right now. you can see it starts to lift right out of here and then by 5:00 we're dry but as i said we're going to start to tap into some of the moisture from nate and that will be later on tonight. there's the rain right now with the frontal system and a well defined frontal system coming all the way down back into the deep south. this is nate right now. winds down to 45 miles per hour. it is a tropical storm. it's going to pass just

mountains but that's through monday morning so it will race up to new england by tuesday and that's when we'll start to see a break. 81 degrees will be our daytime high for tomorrow and here comes nate right there. even by 2:00 a.m. as you make plans to head off to work early tomorrow morning we're still dealing with showers and that will be through tomorrow afternoon and then we start to have just spotty showers on tuesday. as i said, wednesday, thursday, that's when a little disturbance rolls through. i have rain showers all throughout this week. temperatures drop as we get into the end of the work week but next weekend looks a lot better. >> it's still so warm. >> absolutely. >> okay. want to talk politics now. the issue of gun control was back in the spotlight after the las vegas shooting. >> it raised concerns over bump stocks. that's the device that modified semiautomatic rifles to fire like fully automatic weapons. joining us to talk about all of this is chuck todd. a lot more talk about gun control but you don't believe that this

shooting is going to spark any sort of real change with gun control. >> no the bump stocks, first of all, everybody it seems like in the gun industry, even many gun right supporters hadn't heard of this. steve scalise is an avid sportsman and hasn't heard of it. it's a rather new accessory. it's technology. so those that are calling for this ban i think among the unpredictable side of this are the republican side of this, they view it as closing a loophole for a law that already exists which is a ban on automatic weapons. you'll see. we were in a circle. that you'll just see here that the two sides talk past each other on this because it really is a philosophical view. and just b

upon that right. yes the courts have a very expansive view of this but she doesn't think that debate is over which is also where you got a new york times columnist saying if you want to enact gun control you'll have to repeal the second amendment which seems that's never going to happen but his point was, that's the only way you're going to be able to enact some of these gun control laws. we're not there yet. politics in this will never change until somebody that doesn't support gun control loses an election. right now the only people that lose elections due to guns are those that vote for gun control. >> we saw that come only after the nra made a statement too. >> it was coordinated. it was coordination. you could feel that that was coordination on that front. that's for sure. >> steve scalise on the show. >> yes. it will be interesting to get his take on this issue. also north korea, donald trump and secretary of state. a lot coming up. >> we do. we do and what did he mean? there's onl
