president did on sunday committed a publicity stunt. vice president mike pence walked out of yesterday's indianapolis colts game when some players took a knee during the national anthem. >> it wasn't long after the anthem that the vice president left the game. a senior official for mr. pence says that the decision to walk out was planned ahead of time. the vice president defended his decision tweeting that he left because he and president trump will not dignify any event at that disrespects our soldiers, our flag or national anthem. he went on to say, he didn't think it was too much to ask nfl players to respect the flag and our national anthem. president trump weighed in saying he asked pence to leave if any players kneeled. one player is calling mr. pence's move a pr stunt. >> with the information that i have, last time he's been to a colts game is three y

weinstein of sexual misconduct and harassment in a recent new york times article. in a statement to the times, weinstein apologized for his behavior. 4:33 now. you are taking a look at d.c. firefighters trying to soak the flames from a car. what you can't see is how they cut off the roof of that car to pull two people out. those people are now in critical condition. d.c. police say the car was speeding downhill crest drive southeast last night. the driver lost control and slammed into trees off the road. that is when the car burst into flames. the man who lived nearby heard what sounded like an explosion. >> i was in the kitchen and i heard this huge, like, bomb bang sound and came outside. there was like three more pops like that. and there were -- the woods were on fire. >> a third person had minor injuries. d.c. police are investigating whether the car

because it was missing license plates. right now, a 73-year-old mother and her 50-year-old daughter are missing. arlene grant and her mother marie grant were last seen saturday at a family party. montgomery county police say arlene has contacted family members via text since that time but not provided information about her and her mother's whereabouts. police are worried about their emotional and physical welfare. if you see either woman, please call police. tracking nate right now. those were the sights and sounds of nate as it tore through the gulf coast this weekend. take a look at all that water. flooding what looks like a parking garage. as you can see, flooding and storm surge were the big problems. this morning people along the gulf coast are cleaning up all of that damaget

and water, most residents who lived through katrina said things could have been a lot worse. >> people who lived through katrina have seen the worst of the worst. i think they were prepared for that and feel fortunate they weren't hit harder. >> the cat 1 did a lot of damage. i mean, just amazing. people don't really pay attention to the numbers when you get small like that. the 1 and 2. >> sheena has always said, those numbers can only mean a difference of 5 miles per hour. >> yeah. >> you can't take those lightly. >> you really can't take it lightly. it depends what category we're talking about as far as the difference in wind speed. we're talking about storm surge and heavy rain. it's not always a category number. >> the thing about this storm, it barreled into the area. 22, 23 miles an hour. it could have been moving slower, but thank goodness it was moving quickly. >> it's made its way inland

this is tropical depression nate now. there you see it all the rain to the east of the center now. this is the rain we're expecting for the morning commute. this is why we have a weather alert today. because of the timing of this rain. kind of an inconvenience this morning. so you see heavier rain trying to get closer to winchester across 81. closer to la ray. light rain towards quantico and fredericksburg. we'll see heavier rain for the morning drive. as far as the impacts are concerned, let's head over to lauryn. good morning, sheena. minor impacts here. we'll have steady rain throughout. also, we'll get breezy. starting to get breezy now. we'll see winds possibly up to 30, 35 miles per hour. especially if you're higher elevations. some of the ridge tops out there. high winds, we're not going to have any tornadoes or any hail. in probably not any isolated thunderstorms. although maybe we'll put one in. heavy rainfall possible but not probable.

officials say a group of 40 white nationalists gathered there for about ten minutes holding tiki torches and chanting before boarding a bus and leaving the city. this comes two months after a white nationalist rally turned violent in charlottesville. one person was killed. the city says it's unconscionable that these people would return to charlottesville to intimidate and spread fear. take a look here. what you are looking at right now is just an emergency drill. no one hurt here. actors helped out first responders in montgomery county as they carried out a simulated mass shooting. the drill at walt whitman high happened a week after the tragedy in vegas. it allowed the emergency crews to practice their skills for a real-life worst case scenario. they ran toward danger to help save lives. >> yesterday, 95 names of firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice

the national fallen firefighters memorial in 'em itsburg. each name was read aloud and one of the names was john ung schneider. he was shot to death last year as he responded to a call for help. fire chief benjamin barksdale says this honor is bittersweet for his family as they continue to grieve his loss. >> it's still very difficult for them. for don. still breathing, still mourning the loss of her husband. they have a 3-year-old daughter. it's been very difficult. >> families of the fallen were presented with a red rose and folded american flag that had flown over the capitol building. this week is fire prevention week. we're working for you all week long to show you

surviving a fire. earlier this morning, we told you 80% of deadly fires begin inside of homes. so. >> so the important question is do you know where your sprinklers are in your home? chances are you may not have any. in d.c. sprinklers have only been required in new homes since 2011. in maryland, they've only been required since 2015. and look at this. in virginia, there are no requirements to have sprinkler systems in homes. so many homes don't even have them. we're going to go live to news 4's angie goff in southwest washington with more on how to improve your family's chances of survival during a fire. how important are the sprinklers, angie? >> reporter: well, eun, as you mentioned, these are laws that are longing for some people to realize there isn't a requirement in the state of virginia. the other ones were recently required. considering the fact that, according to the national fire
