fights take place these days. new controversy facing the white house this morning. >> the president locked in another high profile feud with a key member of his own party. we have two reports beginning with nbc white house correspondent kristen welker. >> reporter: good morning. president trump's latest war of words is particularly striking because this time it's with the republican chairman of the senate foreign relations committee, bob corker. senator corker making an extraordinary charge overnight that the president's actions are endangering the country and his threats to other nations could lead to another world war. this morning a major republican rebuke, top gop senator bob corker telling "the new york times" president trump could put the nation on the path to world war iii and that the president's tweets have in some instances undermined american diplomacy. he concerns me, corker told the times. he would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation. corker also saying he is

would stand but prepared to leave if they didn't. matt and savannah. >> peter alexander, thank you. >> a lot more to get to this morning including nate which is pushing farther inland after slamming the gulf coast as a hurricane over the weekend. it actually made landfall twice in louisiana and mississippi causing damaging flooding, knocking out power to tens of thousands of people. dylan is in for al this morning, she has been tracking this for us. >> good morning. it was a category 1 hurricane when it made landfall, the more significant landfall was near biloxi, mississippi, with winds with this storm up to 85 miles per hour. the good news to this storm was it was moving very quickly. while we did see some areas of flooding because of the torrential downpours, the tropical nature of those downpours we didn't see long duration flooding. biloxi picked up 4 1/2 inches of rain, some parts of north carolina picked up over 11 inches of rain on the eastern side of the storm and now the storm is post tropical, it's

is the political firestorm that is intensifying and some frustrated residents wait for help to arrive. >> this morning nearly three weeks after hurricane maria much of puerto rico is still without power and without water. three star general jeffrey buchanan is spear heading the military relief effort here. nbc news rode with him on a supply air drop mission to the western part of the island. >> we shouldn't pretend this this is going to be pain free anytime real soon. this is going to to take a long time and a lot of hard work. >> reporter: hours before they dealt with new flash flooding overnight in san juan. the mayor blasted fema for not moving fast enough to distribute supplies. >> reporter: 78% of gas stations are now open, 77% supermarkets but only about 12% of the island

>> reporter: it may be tough to watch. baby jaden is experiencing withdraw withdrawal. born dependent on meth and other drugs. >> most of the babies that require morphine, we can wean them off in about two weeks. 2 1/2 weeks. his symptoms were so significant and he wasn't able to tolerate us weaning the morphine down. >> reporter: he is 1 of 351 babies born in east tennessee. today, he's finally going home, having spent his whole life in intensive care. experts say nationally, the number of babies born dependent has quadrupled over the past 15 years. here in appalachia, east tennessee, it's ground zero of those kids. >> it's been dramatic. tragic. overwhelming. >> reporter: barry is one of eight district attorneys in tennessee representing 24 different counties who

suit against the manufacturers, on behalf of an unnamed child, representing the thousands of babies born dependent in tennessee. >> when you see the babies screen. you see them claw. you see them shake. it makes the problem real. it's not an abstract policy problem, not a lawsuit. a baby that didn't have a chance. >> reporter: dozens of cities, counties and states have brought similar suits against the companies. saying they have pushed doctors to overprescribe painkillers, downplayed risks and fueling an epidemic. >> the pharmaceutical companies had a choice of how to market these drugs. they saw the consequences. and they kept doing it and kept profiting off of it. >> reporter: two of libby harris' granddaughters suffered
