school year. they're trying to work in 180 days between september of next year and june of next year. they have two proposals in place. take a look. they include trimming spring break, get this, to a four-day weekend. that will likely not be very popular. also, too, cutting days that fall on religious holidays in september. machined days for planning for teachers. governor hogan authorized all public schools to start after labor day and to do so within 180 days. their map is after labor day and by june 15th to end school. right now, in montgomery county, they're still looking for public inp input. lots of families will want to weigh in on this. this will impact a lot of plans going forward. discussions pick up today and a vote could come as soon as next month. live from silver spring, i'm justin finch. news 4. back to you. >> justin finch.

some parents are waking up scared and worried today after a group of teens used an app to talk about killing their classmates. >> this is a disturbing one. the fauquier county students used a gaming app called discourse. chris lawrence is looking into what the students said at the live desk. >> this involves six kids all go to liberty high school fauquier county. they talked about operation will to kill and lynching another student. a lot parents came out and are scared for their children's safety and want those kids expelled. even though they made death threats, the sheriff's department is pretty clear, there won't be any criminal charges. >> after a review, a thorough investigation, working with the office of the commonwealth's attorney, it is determined that it didn't rise to the level of a criminal violation of law. >> what is to keep this from happening again? what is

message to someone and saying well, i'm not going to be punished? >> last night school officials said parents can't share what punishment individual students will be facing because they call it a private matter. parents will be anxious to hear about that. this is video of police near texas tech taking a 19-year-old student into custody. hollis daniels is accused of killing a campus police officer at the campus police headquarters. police say daniels was taken into custody after they found drugs in his dorm roomment while he was after the the campus police station, he allegedly shot a campus officer and took off. after a massive manhunt, daniels was taken into custody. all right. it's win or go home today for the nats. we've been here before. right? >> many times, unfortunately. >> down a game after yesterday's loss to the cubs.

welcome back. it's been one week since a gunman opened fire on concert-goers. investigators do not appear any closer to figuring out why. las vegas sheriff says the gunman attempted to shoot fuel tanks at a nearby airport. authorities say he also shot the hotel security guard six times before opening fire on the crowd. the gunman's finances have also revealed some interesting things. documents show that he earned $5 million back in 2015, just from gambling. a bow i father is in mourning after his daughter was shot and killed by police in miami beach. she ran over an officer. that's when they fired several shots. the video you're about to see might be tough to watch. >> get back.

her life says his mother. services start at 10:00 this alexandria. a military burial follows at arlington national cemetery. he was killed after the "uss mccain" collided with a merchant ship from malaysia. megan sat down with his mom and will share his story tonight on news 4. wading into the nfl protest controversy. this time he tweeted praising jerry jones, he wrote a big salute to jerry jones, owner of the dallas cowboys who will bench plairs who disrespect our flag. jones said any player that disrespects the flag won't play. it was two weeks ago that jones took a knee with his players before the anthem. there you see there. that came out after the president suggested that the owners should fire players who don't stand during the anthem. tim

they just celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. heartbreaking stories from people scattered all across wine country and all the way to the south in southern california where fires are also burning in orange county. it's splitting resources in the state right down the middle as firefighters have to decide which fires to chase and which fires just to let burn. they're eachly distributed amongst the fires. they say that they were prepared. it's just the fires are a natural disaster. they start up and you have to just sort of try to keep up with them. sometimes you catch them and sometimes they catch you. that's what happened here. more than 73,000 acres burned. 1500 homes and businesses, including a hilton hotel in santa rosa. 265-bed hilton hotel. it burned for hours. they are waiting and hoping for good news at dawn as we reassess how many

overnight and how firefighters did. we're expecting the death toll to rise. ten confirmed dead. missing persons reports up to 100 people. so not any good news coming out of california out of these fires any time soon. i'm jennifer bjorklund live in napa. back to you. >> jennifer, thanks so much. a terrible situation. that is not the only fire of concern in california. take a look at these images. this is video from disneyland, 400 miles south of napa. the fire burning near there left an eerie orange glow as you can see. ash was raining down, some said. the park remained open all day. >> check it out. this video, you can see how out of control the flames are. it's destroyed 24 homes, moving closer to a busy highway there. this fire is only 5% contained. meanwhile, in other top stories. some parents in fauquier county are calling for a group of students to be expelled after they made online threats.

assault near the dulles town center in sterling. a woman was attacked walking through a wooded path on her way home early sunday morning. she was able to fight off the attack and the suspect ran off and has not been arrested residents of of the colonnade town home say additional security is needed around that community. a warning for parents in prince george's county. staff at henry wise junior high school in upper marlboro confirmed two cases of tuberculosis. officials are set to meet with parents. but they say the risk of exposure is low. it usually takes eight hours of close contact to contract tb. parents should monitor their children for odd symptoms and check with their doctors. >> good to hear the risk is low. the winter olympics will be here before you know it. it's coming up in february. i'm going to show you about what to look forward to from my trip to south korea.

george's county native, her parents are telling us more. she left to go to culinary school in norfolk. she was last seen september 8th on the u.s. navy base. police found her remains near a church in charlotte nearly two weeks later. her parents are setting up a foundation in her name. >> she served god. she served god well. that's why we've come to an acceptance that this had to happen for us to bring the light to missing people. we truly feel that this is god's purpose and plan for our life. >> the foundation will offer a scholarship to a student who graduates from dr. henry a. wise high school in upper marlboro and attends the art institute. you want your sons to find role models to inspire them, of course. >> yesterday afternoon, prince george's county schools honored jim vance for filling that role. the lesson was part of men make a difference day. students at capital heights elementary share the le
