tanker crash. hazmat authorities on scene. hearing the talk of potential evacuations. please be cautious. you'll find yourself rerouted. similar situation where we had a hazmat situation in durwood on crabbs branch way. coming off the 270 spur, a crash down at the river road has been blocking the left lane. from the sound of it, everything is on the shoulder. tow truck is there and they're about to wrap it up. back in to you. well, good morning, jack. we are looking at rain on the radar, but not for everybody right now. around the district you notice we have cloudy conditions. up around baltimore, light, spotty sprinkles. it will be the case as we go through the day today. it will be kind of a gray day with spotty showers around the area. we look to our south. fredericksburg, a bit of a

95 near fredericksburg, sait. mary's county. now we have a few showers developing off to the west of 81. winchester, martinsburg, hag gars town. 72 through the afternoon. through the afternoon, clouds around with wet roads. temperatures in the mid 70s. cooler than yesterday. we'll talk about when the rain chances will come to an end and when the fall weather comes back. that's all straight ahead, guys. >> sheena, thanks so much. breaking news at 6:02 in arlington, virginia. two people were able to escape a massive house fire. this is on north ivy street. one person had to be rescued. >> news 4's kristin wright is there now. kristin, pretty incredible damage there and it happened fast. >> reporter: yes. it looks very, very bad. just found out the past few minutes that the guy firefighters pulled from a window of the house here was

to the hospital. he is in critical condition. take a look at the house here. it looks terrible. we pulled up and i thought just, wow. these are members of the fire marshall's office as well as the fire department. they are here. they're cleaning up. they're also trying to figure out exactly how the fire started. so here's what we can tell you. three people were home when the fire began. two of them were able to get out of the house. they told firefighters when they got here that there was a third person, another man inside of the house in a bedroom on the upstairs. firefighters put up a ladder. they were able to climb and go in and rescue, pull out that third person. three people in the house. we're told they're all roommates and renting. fire department tweeted out a couple of pictures this morning. one of them shows just how raging this fire was. it looks like really just a

of fire just glowing. second picture they tweeted out shows that rescue that i was explaining. you can see the ladder up at the window. you can see the firefighter there and, again, firefighters say they were able to pull that person. we're told a man in his 20s out of the house. he was taken to the hospital. he was unresponsive but breathing. he's in critical condition. firefighters also telling us they believe there were working smoke alarms in the house. back to you. >> all right. kristin wright in arlington for us. kristin, thank you. while we wait to learn the cause of that fire, officials want you and your family to have a plan. we have important resources on our nbc washington app. search fire safety. we're also following breaking news concerning a triple shooting in northwest washington. >> let's get straight to news 4's justin finch who has the very latest. justin. >> reporter: hey, that's right. we have three men who were shot. we know two have died and one

as for the person or persons who did it, they are still out there and police, they are still here in this home just behind us, that white colored home. they have been going in and out of that home throughout the morning still gathering clues around that home here. d.c. police got on scene just after midnight. they got that call of three people shot on eighth street between rock borrow place and whiten house street northwest. it's just off georgia avenue and really residential. lots of homes and also lots of schools as well. we're just a few blocks away of coolidge high and the whittier education campus. that home is still under blaring lights with police tape up and officers still on scene gathering clues. two men are dead and one man is now in the hospital. the shooter in this case did get away. also, police are looking for a black bmw, a

they say that may have involvement in the shooting. 6200 block is going to be closed as this investigation continues. we're live here in northwest. i'm justin finch, news 4. >> justin, thank you. your time is 6:06. we have more breaking news now. those devastating deadly wildfires are not letting up in california. take a look at this. this is new video showing flames shifting overnight. 150 people missing. crews found two more people dead last night making the total 17 so far. the fires are officially a federal disaster. the worst hit area is sonoma county north of san francisco. so far the fire destroyed 2,000 homes and buildings. coming up, jay gray will have a live report from napa with more challenges they're facing battling the flames. >> 6:06 right now. we want to get to the latest on the investigation into the mass shooting in las vegas.

was staying is disagreeing with police about what happened. news 4's chris lawrence is at the live desk. that's not good when you're trying to work on an investigation. >> no, eun, it's not just what happened but when. the police releasing leased a new time line. mandalay bay saying it can't be certain that's correct. on monday they say he shot and wounded a mandalay bay security guard six minutes before the shooting started. this is a significant difference from what investigators said last week, that the guard interrupted paddock during the massacre. that's when paddock shot him. the revised time line raises questions whether the officers could have done more to prevent the shooting. he was wounded. police have suggested he managed to call for help. it's not entirely sure if that happened. we know 53 were shot and hundreds more were hurt. ne

eun. the nfl could be close to making a big move including its players protesting during the national anthem. in a memo to teams yesterday, commissioner roger goodell says they have to come up with a plan on this issue and will present it to team owners next week. it's unclear whether the league will make standing mandatory. goodell made clear he thought everyone should stand for the anthem. "people" magazine reporting that harvey weinstein's wife is leaving him amid the growing accusations of sexual misconduct. the latest accusations include stars angelina jolie and gwyneth paltrow. that's on top of the report from ""the new yorker"" magazine. they're reporting clues in audio recordings from a 2013 nypd sting operation where a model appears to reject weinstein's advances inside a hotel. >> why is it

"news 4 today" begins with breaking news. 6:29. we are following several breaking news stories for you. at least one person was seriously injured in this house fire in arlington overnight. it's still not clear how the fire started. and in just a few minutes, we are going to check in with justin finch. he is at the scene of a triple shooting that killed three men overnight. we want to go to chris lawrence with a hazmat situation in loudoun county. this is a big spill. >> it's a serious one, angie. we just learned basically what happened was a karan up under a tanker truck that was carrying about 26,000 gallons of fuel. about 16,000 gallons spilled out

we just learned in the last couple of minutes that one person has been extricated from that car and transported to a local hospital. the road is still closed. to give you an idea what we're talking about, this is near virginia route 7. a serious crash on colonial highway. colonial highway closed between hamtd ton station road and dry mill road in hamilton. going to cause some major problems for folks trying to get to work this morning again as they try to clean up that spill. eun, back to you. >> chris, thank you. no, it's going to be a big cleanup for sure. it's 6:30. we need to check in with jack tailor. it sounds like a big mess. >> it certainly could be. especially with rain coming through. business route 7 between 704 and 9. hamilton service station. doing a big

the investigation then began, and it now continues. so many are waking up this morning you said to the devastating news of three people shot, two died on the street here. many know, too, this is a largely residential neighborhood just blocks from several schools including paul public charter, and the whiteyer education campus. too close for neighbors and families this morning. police need to watch out for this. police are looking for a black bmw 3 series that was in the area and the shooter remains at large this morning. back in to you guys. >> justin, how many murders so far in the district this year? >> reporter: we have been working on that number with police for you. i can tell you as of last night we had 89 homicides reported so far this year. these two

if the nats lose, they're out. if they win, there's a decisive game five. 6:35. following a developing story right now. the command officers of the "u.s.s. john s. mccain" have been relieved of their duties. this is more from the deadly fallout of the crash that killed two salors. the navy announced the officers' reassignment on the same day a maryland family buried their son who was killed in the crash. the family allowed us to be at arlington national cemetery yesterday for petty officer timothy eccols county. kevin sayer was also killed in that crash.

with police about their new time line. news 4's chris lawrence is at the live desk to explain. what's the discrepancy here, chris? >> un, it's not just about what happened but when. the police released a new time line and mandalay bay says it cannot be certain that is correct. on monday the clark county sheriff says stephen paddock shot and wounded a mandalay bay security guard six minutes before the shooting started. it's a significant difference from what investigators said last week, that the guard interrupted paddock during the massacre. that's when paddock shot him. the revised time line does raise some questions about whether officers could have done more to prevent the shooting before it started. the guard was wounded and police have suggested he managed to call for help but it's not entirely clear if that happened. we know 58 people died in that shooting. hundreds more were hurt. eun, back to you. >> chris, thanks so much for

a disturbing allegation against a karate instructor in gaithersburg. frank pugarida is charged with sexually abusing a 15-year-old student. detectives say there may be more victims. they want parents to speak to their kids to see if there was any inappropriate contact with him. teachers convicted of crimes against students but their licenses not revoked. news 4 iteam investigation is raising some questions about how education officials handle cases of sexual misconduct by teachers in d.c. and whether it's putting kids all around the dmv at risk. here's iteam's scott mcfarland. >> reporter: if a teacher admits sexually assaulting a student, his or her license is revoked and his or her name is added to a national database to red flag. washington d.c. education officials aren't doing it. we found several teachers who
