2:30 this morning on 95 southbound down in stafford. the crash occurred at the centerport parkway. diesel fuel spilled across the roadway. the lane remain blocked. all traffic diverts on to 630 stafford, down to route 1. you can rejoin -- northbound we're getting the normal building delays. glebe road closed between military road and chain bridge. they're hoping to have the roadway open by 7:00. sounds like major delays you can see. the red line growing. inbound on the 11th street bridge. a crash where everybody merges together. only one left lane is getting by. not great, unfortunately. >> sheena, the weather was rough. it sounds like it's going to be better through the day. >> yes. we had quite a bit of rain move through. the roads could have ponding on them. if you're in an area that typically starts to see ponding of water when it rains, be careful as you drive and leave this morning. currently, mostly on the dry

side. 67 degrees in washington. we have low clouds around. we're not looking at any dense fog chlg that is the good news. it's going to stay cloudy and drizzly through the day today. by 10:00 a.m., drizzle in the forecast, even a light shower. mid-60s by lunchtime. we're not going to be warming up. we're going to stay in the 60s. here's a look at the radar. all the rain has left the area. we're looking at the very light shower chance. that's why i said it looks good for the nats even though it's going to be cool and drizzly. we're not looking at any issues as far as the rain is concerned. i'll show you that forecast in a bit. >> thank you, sheena. all right. it's a brand new beginning for an area with a long history in d.c. this is what the southwest waterfront once looked like. isn't it cool to see these old pictures. it used to serve as a main commercial waterfront in the district. now it's home to one of the most ambitious development projects with new retail, entertainment, restaurants and rental properties. unrecognizable. in a matter of hours, some 20,000 peo

way down to the wharf each day. >> all of that from the old fish market down there. with that many people near the waterfront, there's going to be a lot of traffic and headaches. justin finch is working for you with the best ways to get around down there. >> reporter: hey there, chris am i'm still trying to process 20,000 people coming down here each day. but i can tell you this, there are so many ways to come down here, you don't have to drive. why do it unless you really want to. one way that i find intriguing is the water taxi right behind it. they're there and ready to go very soon to pick you up and drop you off right here. let's say, looking at video from georgetown or alexandria, the water taxi will get you from dock to dock right here where we are right now. you'll disembark from right there and make your way to the party going on at the wharf. now, let's say you were closer by. somewhere here in southwest. try the shuttle bus.

area. there are pickups at the l'enfant plaza metro area and also at the national mall. around independence or the vre station at 7 and maryland avenue. if you want to drive, you don't have to, but you can. there is limited street-level parking at l'enfant plaza. you can walk to the wharf from there. there's also parking too if you want to try the anacostia metro. you take the two stops to the wharf at the waterfront station. if you want to uber, take lyft or taxi, don't come straight down here. instead, get dropped off on g street and make your way down here. want to let you know, with 20,000 people set to be in this area, driving could be a headache. maybe bike or walk. do whatever you can to avoid the traffic because the roads here will be heavily patrolled, including v-dot. you could catch a ticket or a tow truck. be careful. but have fun. back to yo

prince george's county police are still investigating all of those attacks. they say they have not found evidence connecting the recent cases to mandy's attack. one of the women from our area who was shot during that massacre in las vegas is doing a lot better this morning. tina frost's parents say she's following the nurses' commands. she's able to squeeze her hand and move her own toe. she's also been able to sit up for longer periods of time. former congresswoman gabby giffords visited tina in the hospital. frost was shot in the head during that massacre. she grew up right here in anne arundel county. tonight there's going to be a fundraiser for tina frost at the hideaway. the restaurant will donate part of your check to the family to help them with medical bills and expenses. stealing heaven. pet owners robbed at gunpoint. the reason this puppy could be at risk and how you can

we're following breaking news from the live desk. d.c. police are telling us in northeast, someone was shot near the 200 block of 54th street. the shooting happened at around 1:30 this morning over near the capitol heights metro station. that

hospital. conditions unknown at this hour much police say they are still looking for a suspect. >> at the live desk, i'm meagan fitzgerald. meagan, we'll start with our breaking news. virginia southbound, stafford. the crash unfortunately down at centerport parkway, still has the southbound lanes blocked because of a fuel spill cleanup. northbound lanes unaffected. we've got the crash in the middle of the roadwayment inbound on the 11th street bridge, major delays heading to a crash where the lanes merged. only the left lane is getting by. glebe road remains closed between military road and chain bridge because of a downed tree. they're hoping to have that open in the next half hour to 45 minutes. at least an eyebrow or two raised somara, how is our weather? >> mild? >> we have fun, food, foo fighters and fireworks. if you plan to head down here, two opportunities to check out the fireworks.

restaurants and rental properties. just incredible to see how much it's transformed over the last few years. >> i remember going to the fish market 20, 25 years ago. that was about the only thing down there. >> the oldest continuous serving open air fish market in the country. >> wow. >> right there in d.c. just in a matter of hours, some 20,000 people will make their way to the wharf for the grand opening weekend. >> you know, with that many people near the waterfront, the traffic is just going to be exciting. it's going to come with a lot of headaches. going to affect you even if you aren't going down there. justin finch is working with you with the best way to get around. hey, justin. >> reporter: chris, you don't have to drive. that's the best thing. we talked about the shuttle buses coming in and coming here as well to the wharf here. also, too, how about a water taxi coming in here off the river. joined now by kenneth vinton, the ceo of entertainment

overseeing the water taxis. everyone wants to know where do i get on and off? >> it's exciting. the first one to bring a regional water taxi system to d.c. this would enable us to bring from the wharf in 25 minutes old town alexandria and 25 minutes to georgetown. then come march, we'll open up to maryland. it's very exciting. >>. >> reporter: of course, the cost. >> you can get an annual pass for $175. then it's $18 round trip for adults. $10 for a one-way. and for children, it is $7 for one way and 12 $.60 for a round trip. >> reporter: that may sound expensive, but factor in parking and the other stresses. it's kind of a deal. i want to show you the big events going on here today for the big grand opening right now. 11:00 a.m., the opening ceremony going on here. then at noon, we have daytime fireworks set in place.

they're offering a $2,000 reward. one of the women from our area shot during the massacre in las vegas is doing better this morning. >> good news. tina frost's parents say she's able to squeeze the nurses' hands and move her own toes. she's also been able to sit up for longer periods of time. former congresswoman gabby giffords came to visit her in the hospital. frost was shot in the head during the massacre. she grew up in anne arundel county. a battle on the turf between the congressional mean machines and capitol police guards had a pretty special moment this year. take a look. congressman steve scalise made a special appearance at the congressional football game wednesday night. he's still recovering thanking members of the capitol police for what they did. saving his life during the shooting at that baseball practice in june. >>

this makes it the deadliest outbreak of fire in california history. hundreds more are missing. one county created a register. jay gray is live in napa with the latest. jay, a terrible situation out there. >> reporter: yeah, eun, chris, it is. getting worse, unfortunately. the fires growing overnight pushed by winds that have gusted to over 40 miles an hour. we're in front of one of the evacuation shelters that's set up across the strike zone. safe place for families to russia head of the flames. thousands taking advantage of that now. officials warn that number and the fires will continue to grow over the next couple of days here. they are fighting this thing around the clock on the frontlines. getting support from strike teams from around the country, as well as the national guard. this is going to be an intense firefight for the next several days and containment is still

according to those fighting this blaze. we do know that two dozen of these shelters or more are open across the region right now. again, thousands of families inside these shelters. there are also donation spots. people bringing water, food, clothing, the things that these families will need. some of then, eun and chris who lost everything. >> they will need so much support in the days and months to come. jay gray live in napa for us. jay, thank you. here at home, we've got to tell you about breaking news. there's been a major problem on 95. jack, what are you seeing now? >> good news. at least they've reopened 95 southbound. the cash early this morning had a fuel spill. diesel fuel was across the roadway. all lanes are now open. south 95 down to the centerport parkway. traffic was diverting. all travel lanes once again available. glebe road, still not gotten the all clear that this is reopened. >> we had a tree down
