showers, but i don't think the rain will be heavy enough to cancel the game. and as you're leaving, temperatures still around 63. so, wendy, we're looking at more of what we've been dealing with not just today, but yesterday as well. >> we can handle it. now to breaking news that you saw first on news 4. the montgomery county man accused of killing his pregnant girl friend, he was indicted in her murder. he shot and killed laura wallen. she was four months pregnant when she disappeared. tessier appeared with wallen's parents at a news conference, if you recall, tearfully asking for her return. her body was eventually found in a shallow grave in damascus, maryland. she had been shot in the head.

engaged to another woman. back to the big grand opening today for you at d.c.'s new waterfront development, the wharf where there is much to see and do. but the tricky est part might be getting there. what you want know, we're going to go back to jim hanley with a look at the big events today and a look at how you can get there without a lot of headache. hanley. >> yeah, headache is the word. you know, wendy, we were talking about this all week long. i was kayaking down here. water taxis are the way to go. this is the transit pier behind me. that's a yacht. that is not mine. that is not for you, either. but there are water taxis that will carry you from georgetown in alexandria soon from national harbor, too. they hold about 150 people. on a day like today and a weekend when we're going to have 20,000 people a day, that's your best bet right now. let's tell you about other options for getting down here. if you plan on driving, you should know, folks, take a look. parking in a garage will t

best bet is uber or lyft. they can drop you off a couple blocks. it's very easy, flat navigating by foot down here. take metro to the waterfront stations. five lines can access you down here. again, the water taxi from georgetown, alexandria, soon to be national harbor. but remember, you've got to know this tonight especially, and friday, saturday, sunday, no parking along maine avenue. folks, bring it back live. i want to look at you in the eye. they will ticket you. they will tow you. the warninger has been out a week now. don't mesa round. they need to keep the streets cleaned because we have businesses coming in and a lot of entertainment, too to navigate those streets. i want to bring in doug kammerer. right now, i don't know where my umbrella is. but you're right, i don't really need it. it's over there. >> incredible. it's really nice. we have a little bit of drizzle, maybe a sprinkle every once in a while. it's not bad at all. even though we're at 62 degrees,

home. we want to go to the next round. >> yeah, as he says some of the other young guys talking about the team actually coming out the dugout now getting ready for batting practice. things getting started. care maloney will be joining us. she just got back from chicago. live from nationals park, sheree burruss, news 4 sports. >> to give you a little news, republicans in congress failing to pass legislation to repeal and replace obamacare, now president trump has turned to executive action. the president signed an executive order that will allow a small employers to form association plans that they can offer with fewer regulations. it also aims to make it easier to get short-term insurance plans that are cheaper, but are less comprehensive. and it calls for expanding pre-tax dollars that employers can use for hras or health reimbursement arrangements. nbc senior political editor mark murray now with what this could mean for obamacare. >> reporter: wendy, b

a lot of instability in the health care law. the question is just how much instability. you end up taking away healthy people, potentially young people away from the current obamacare markets, those are the people who might end up deciding to buy some of this short-term insurance or ones with association health care plans. you take them away and now it ends up driving up costs and premiums for the sicker people who would end up remaining. there might be some health insurers decide they're not going to be able to make money because you don't have those young healthy people that are in the market place. obamacare, the linchpin was you'd end up having a lot of people, healthy people buy into the system to help support the sicker folks who actually need the help, but without the healthy people and the more of them that are allowed to leave, the tougher it might be for those who remain. so, it's going to produce a lot of instability. the question just is how much. back to you. >> mark murray, thank you, mark. a couple held hostage by the taliban

officials at the grand sierra resort say it made the decision out of respect for the victims of that mass shooting in vegas earlier this month. dozens of victims are still in the hospital in nevada, including a young woman from our area who was critically wounded, but there are some encouraging news. tina frost is getting better, and today news 4's chris gordon talked to her father at a local fund-raising event in her honor. this is a story you're only going to see here on news 4. >> reporter: news of this local fund-raiser spreading on social media reaches the family of las vegas shooting victim tina frost. her father rich, unexpectedly stops by to say thanks during his one-day trip home to maryland. >> we appreciate everything that everybody is doing for her and pulling for her and all the prayers that are coming. it's helping. she's made great progress. she's making progress every hour. >> reporter: tina remains hospitalized since the shooting in las vegas. doctors removed her right eye to save her

family have been released by a taliban group in pakistan. they had been held in captivity five years. the u.s. says they are safe at a secret location in pakistan, but there is some confusion about what happens next. nbc's pierce simmons reports the husband apparently turned down a flight that would bring the family back to the states. >> reporter: american mother caitlyn coleman says canadian husband joshua boyle were released overnight in pakistan according to u.s. officials and now the u.s. embassy staff, their three children released with them, were all born in captivity. the family held by the taliban affiliated for five years. the couple were abducted while hiking in afghanistan when caitlyn was seven months pregnant. the last video message sent back in december 2016 when they urged president trump to help secure their release. pakistan says it acted on intelligence from the u.s. and though no u.s. military assets re

look inside nats park. we're now less than three hours away from one of the biggest games in the history of our team. the nats looking to quiet those critics, take down the chicago cubs in game 5, a win would send the nats to their first-ever nlcs, win or lose, fans will be filling -- filing out of nats park after tonight's game and they need a way to get home. metro is extending its hours. transportation reporter adam tuss broke this news on twitter. he's at the ballpark station, navy yard station with the buzz surrounding this move. people got to be a little relieved about that. >> reporter: absolutely. there is definitely a feeling of relief down here, wendy. let me show you what's ggs on down here. this is the navy yard metro station of course at the ballpark. people are coming and going already at this hour. we have people who are filling out and come take a look over here as you have people who are all lined up down in this area and getting

event tonight, game 5 against the cubs coming up at 8:00 tonight. everybody excited. but i've got to tell you, this whole thing with metro and staying open late has been quite the fiasco. exalon, the parent company of pepco actually stepped up and is running $100,000 for an extra hour of service. what does that mean? it basically means metro will close at 11:30 tonight. now they'll stay open till 12:30 which should get you past any of the late-game activity. you know, before you were thinking maybe you'd have to leave at the seventh or eighth inning. now it looks like you'll be able to go all the way through the game pending any game delay or any sort of extra inning. that's the good news. now we found out that d.c. mayor muriel bowser actually had to call exalon and request the $100,000 because the nationals flat out said they weren't going to pay. i asked the board chair of metro, jack evans, if he thought that the nationals were being a bit

>> i think their position on metro is just we don't pay for late night service. we believe that's a regional thing and metro ought to take care of it and that's their position. i'm not going to argue with them. that's their position. they've been very clear for all of years they've been in existence. that's where they are so we have to find an alternative to do it and i again applaud mayor bowser for making this all happen. >> reporter: remember, about 20,000 fans a game use metro to get here to the ballpark. they'll now have a way to get home safely, wendy. back to you. >> adam tuss. well, some students in montgomery county had a rough start to the school day and maybe learned a lesson or two. more than two dozen of them were stung by a swarm of bees. the students attend quince orchard high. they were across the street at bun cann doughnuts. one student saw a bee on his leg and tried to kick it off. in doing so he ended up kicking the hive. >> they told me someone kicked it. and i'm like, why would you kick a bee hive? that's just so

♪ ♪ breaking right now, the death toll in the california wildfires, it has now gone up to 29, and hundreds of people are still unaccounted for. the fires already scorched more than 173,000 acres of land and it's not just the wineries that have been decimated. some marijuana farms have also been incinerated by these flames. forbes is reporting that this is very bad timing because many farmers had just started to harvest their crops as california has just legalized recreational sales

university of maryland hate messages on campus, there have been several incidents so far this year, but now at least three more are being investigated. and as news 4's mark segraves explains, there is a reward up for grabs for anyone who can help the campus police find whoever is responsible for this. >> reporter: the most high profile incident on the university of maryland campus this year has been the stabbing death of richard collins, a bowie state student. now campus police are investigating offensive language and drawings left inside a campus dining hall. so far this year there have been several incidents that could be classified as hate or bias related. a noose that was found inside a fraternity house, a second noose that was found outside fraternity row. white nation nationalist posters and drawing of a
