shomari, a big night, my friend. >> reporter: that's right, erica and jim. it is huge. you have to think about it. here you have big events, you have the wharf, the nats, oh, the excitement. maine avenue hosts the main attraction. on the grand opening night of the wharf, located on the southwest d.c. waterfront. >> i'm really excited. >> reporter: carlos and his wife sit back and relax over a fire pit. >> we're from maryland so we're always in d.c. and this is a great addition to the city. a great place to come and enjoy each other's company. >> so it's really great to be down here with all the people. >> reporter: hundreds of people from d.c., maryland and virginia are drinking, eating at the new restaurants, the city's new hot spot. >> this is pretty awesome. the s'mores were a very wonderful pleasant surprise. >> reporter: a big surprise for cash and his owner. >> he loves the excitement.

over the next few days starting tomorrow. live music and entertainment all day long from 10:00 to 10:00. electric funk group go go gadget will headline an outdoor show. saturday more music and entertainment throughout the day. d.c.'s popular 90s band white ford broncho will headline. sunday a blessing from the wharf in the afternoon and the howard gospel choir at sunset. >> big finish. everything that happened today, this is only phase one. phase two will include even more offices, apartments, condos, retail shops and restaurants. as well as a brand-new marina. it will add an additional 1.2 million square feet to the wharf. groundbreaking on that part of this massive project will begin sometime in the middle of next year and won't be finished until 2022. we know an awful lot of you are probably planning to check out the wharf this weekend. be prepared. it's going to be busy and take it from me, parking is a nightmare d

sleeves. a must for your friday as we close out the workweek. 6:00 a.m. it's cool around r58. and there is the chance for drizzle n. forecast in the morning hours. i'm seeing the best chance actually during the evening hours. you want to keep that in mind if you have plans for friday night. what does this mean for the weekend? i have an updated forecast, new information just coming in and i'll have the latest coming up at 11:18. >> just hours before remembrance service for a murdered prince george's county native, the fbi is asking for help finding her killer. i'm leon harris at the live desk. ashanti billie's body was found near a church in north carolina last month. the 19-year-old was reported missing nearly two weeks earlier when she didn't show up for work at a sandwich shop in norfolk, virginia. today the feds released a picture of her white or cream colored 2014 mini cooper. as you can see there it has a blacktop and maryland tag of 2 cx

several days after billie's disappearance. the fbi wants anyone who may have seen billie or this car in the charlotte area any time between september 18 and 23rd to give the fbi a call. investigators say the car could have been seen anywhere between hampton roads and charlotte. billie was a student at the art institute of virginia beach and there is a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. by the way, the celebration of life service for billie is in fort washington tomorrow and news 4 will be there. jim, back to you. >> all right, leon, thank you. inmates have killed two people and injured nearly a dozen more in a brazen attempt to bust out of a high-security prison in north carolina not far from the virginia border. now, investigators tell us those inmates set fires at a specialty sewing plant there at the elizabeth city prison. several inmates then tried to escape, but they were all caught. two prison employees were killed but it's not clear how.

hollywood executive caught up in a harassment scandal. amazon studio chief is now accused of sexually harassing a producer. roy price is on leave effective immediately after producer issa hackett claimed that price propositioned her in 2015. hackett is a producer for the amazon show "man in the high castle" and the allegations come amid an onslaught of sexual harassment complaints about movie mogul harvey weinstein. weinstein has not been charged with a crime. police in new york and london are taking a closer look at files to see if anybody else reported being assaulted or harassed by weinstein. >> developing tonight, the death toll in those devastating wine country wildfires has now climbed to 31. that makes this the deadliest week of wildfires in california history. they have torched more than 3500 structures. fire fighters working on little to no sleep now, they're trying

they can. right now authorities are trying to track down as many as 400 people still missing. >> a big development tonight in the case of a beloved pregnant teacher who was murdered. tyler tessier has been indicted. police say he shot and killed laura wallen. she was four months pregnant with tessier's child when she disappeared. tessier appeared with wallen's parents at this news conference and tearfully asked for her return. her body was eventually found in a shallow grave in damascus. montgomery county police say tessier admitted he was engaged to another woman. >> a civil rights icon got a standing ovation tonight from students at the university of maryland. congressman john lewis talked about a new book ecko authored called march book 3. in it he talks about being part of the march on washington back in 1963. his speech comes on the same day that the university of maryland is offering a reward for anyone

is spreading hate on campus. there have been at least three incidents between this month and last at the college park campus, including a swastika drawn inside a bathroom in the ellicott dining hall. >> equifax is dealing with another possible siecyberattack. equifax disabled one of its help pages after hacking. problems on that page were really caused by a malicious code by a third-party vendor. the company says it was not a cyberattack and the systems were not compromised. if you remember, equifax just revealed a month ago that hackers breached the company in july, and they stole the personal information of more than 145 million people. >> frustrated with the gop's failure to repeal and replace the affordable care act, president obama is now turning to executive action. today's executive order allows a small employer's group to form association plans with fewer regulations. now, the

and live pictures from the d.c. wharf capping off a spectacular opening day on the southwest waterfront. an encouraging update tonight from the father of a maryland native shot in the head during the las vegas massacre. >> only on news 4, tina frost's dad says she may be able to fly back to our region next week to continue her recovery. rich frost made a surprise visit to the hideaway. it's this restaurant in odenton that's donating today's profits to his daughter. and he was sporting a team tina t-shirt there you saw from this quick 20 hour trip back to maryland. we caught up with him just before he rushed to the airport to return to his daughter's

shelters. one local high school's home coming weekend is taking on a keeper meaning after the devastation in puerto rico. >> that's right. northern virginia bureau reporter david culver shows us how loudoun county students stepped up to help siblings find some comfort and some fun. >> reporter: home coming season, a big deal at most every high school, freedom high in south riding is no different. students getting dressed up for a night of dancing. >> i didn't bring any suitcase because we like didn't know -- >> reporter: you had no suitcase with you? >> no. >> reporter: a few days before the dance, they showed up at freedom. they had just fled home, puerto rico, or what's left. >> i went outside my house and i saw my street, all the trees falling down. >> reporter: through their stepdad they were able to relocate to loudoun county and enrolled in the high school where they knew no one. the principal got word, and -- >> they came to mend

now on saturday with high temperatures 0 only around 70 degrees. next week is looking beautiful. sunshine and comfortably cool temperatures in the forecast just about every day. but tomorrow it's cool, but we have the clouds around. 70 and there is the chance for drizzle. 58 degrees by the lunch time hours. we're in the mid 60s. we kind of hang out in the mid 60s for the rest of the day with a chance for light showers tomorrow evening as well as some patchy drizzle out there as well. so, the weather having a bit of an impact on your friday. outdoor exercise, though, it's refreshing this time of year. recess for the kids, i'm not seeing any rain that would be heavy enough to put a recess indoors so it's probably going to be outside. if you have plans on your friday night, dinner out again, expect some drizzle in spots. otherwise cool. you definitely want the fall jacket and some big football games going on tomorrow night. oxon hill at wise. we have woodbridge at freedom. that was the high school david just did that story on. look at the forecast. 7:00 temperatures around 66. you want a

the sweat shird you probably want a waterproof jacket just in case. by 9:00 p.m. as the games are wrapping up, temperature around 65. that is cool. saturday again, temperatures will be around 70 degrees with mostly cloudy skies, maybe some drizzle during the morning hours on saturday, but for now we'll keep it mainly dry. and we are starting to see some fall color across the area, especially in areas like loudoun and fauquier county and back around the mountains. still not a lot of color here in the district. and on average we start to see peak color here in the d.c. metro area between november 1st and the tenth. we still have a ways to go. taking a look at your pollen report today, mold spores coming in high, and the redskins game sunday afternoon it's feeling like summer football weather. 83 degrees during the game. also feeling a little bit humid on sunday. take a look at your ten-day forecast. but notice sunday, guys, is the warm est and the only 80 degree day on the ten-day there. there is plenty of fall erika is giving
