including something prosecutors revealed for the first time today. leon? >> reporter: yes, doreen, prosecutors are saying for the first time that nabra hassanen was raped. they have filed capital murder and rape charges against her suspected killer. the 17-year-old died during ramadan after fasting. she was walking back from a restaurant to the mosque in sterling where -- with a group of teenagers when the police say that one of the boys got into an argument with a passing driver. that driver, darwin martinez torres. and police say that torres chased that group. he caught hassanen and then hit her with a baseball bat, put her in his car, and then later dumped her body in a lake near his apartment. >> justice for nabra. justice for nabra. >> that was friday. hassanen's supporters shouting "justice for nabra" outside a courthouse in fairfax county. inside, torres was stoic. he was quiet. as the victim's parents hurled insults his way. it was incredibly emotional. cameras were not allowed there in the courtroom

take off her shoe and throw it at the suspect, something seen aw aas a high insult in her culture. now, prosecutors are not seeking any hate crime charges. they say this was instead a deadly case of road rage. jim, back to you. >> leon, thank you. a guilty plea in an ms-13 gang murder is doing little to ease one mother's sorrow. today she left a prince william county courtroom in tears. her son edwin chicas was killed in october last year. shot at 15 times, then slashed with a machete right near his family's town home in manassas. the painful details were too much for his sisters and mother to hear in court today. >> i feel like somebody punched me in my stomach. and i'm numb. there's no other words. >> when i heard all the stuff they're doing to him it's very hard for mep. >> marlon argueta pleaded guilty today to first

gang participation. he says chicas was involved in a rival group and threatened his pregnant girlfriend. a brawl caught on surveillance video inside a prince george's county liquor store has some calling for the owner to lose his liquor license. the video from august shows a man knock over some items inside the largo liquors at largo town center. he told news 4 he was defending a woman who was getting screamed at by the cashier. two employees and the owner rushed the guy and pinned him until officers arrived. more than 5,000 people have signed an online petition to have the liquor license pulled. homecoming week's always a big deal at howard university. but it's even bigger this year. the school is celebrating its 150th anniversary. news 4's shomari stone with a look at how howard university students kicked off the week. >> reporter: how's it going? here at howard u there are a lot of happy people. they're very excited during this monumental time.

they'd have to move out because of continuing problems with their sewer system. the property owner couldn't afford to fix it and was planning to sell the land to the city. but tonight the city council voted to let catholics for housing buy the property instead. the non-profit will start fixing the faulty sewer lines before the end of the year, allowing people to stay in their homes. d.c. leaders are making a hard push to convince amazon to bring its second headquarters to the district. but they've got a lot of competition for those 50,000 new jobs. the four site proposals in d.c. include the anacosta riverfront, capital hill east, the shaw riverfront and nova union station. business leaders tell us the district can handle the explosive growth amazon would bring. >> wherever they go jobs follow. more innovative businesses follow around it. i think it would be nd

loudoun, and richoned all trying to lure amazon. proposals to the retail giant are due this thursday. new at 11:00, the suspect in a human smuggling tragedy that killed a fairfax county high school graduate will avoid the death penalty. james bradley matthew jr. drove the tractor-trailer that was found at a san antonio walmart in july. he pleaded guilty to federal judges today. frank fuentes was one of ten people who died in the trailer from a lack of oxygen. fuentes spent most of his life living in northern virginia. he was trying to sthaek baneak o the u.s. after being deported to guatemala. a shooting near the university of maryland may have been drug-related. that's what we're learning tonight about the violence saturday at a group home here on rhode island avenue. news 4 was there today when one of the victims came back to the house. he was shots in the hip. his mother told us he'll be okay. another person was beaten. prince

say one of the victims is a maryland student. at this point no suspects, no arrests. investigators still don't know why a man opened fire on a country music concert in las vegas more than two weeks ago, killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more, but we do know that a young victim from maryland is making progress in her recovery. tina frost is back home now and in the care of doctors at johns hopkins. they say so far her recovery is miraculous. >> there is a 90% mortality rate for gunshot wounds to the head. so the fact that she is alive and that she has made such progress in such a short period of time. >> tina is recognizing family and friends and can give a thumbs up but she's still not speaking or walking on her own. doctors say she has a long road ahead, including cognitive and physical therapies and facial reconstruction after losing her right eye. it's too soon to know the extent

it was a huge announcement last week, you remember. but for many it was a long time coming. >> one maryland troupe has included girls for years and as news 4's jackie bensen learned tonight their scout leader says it's time they got some recognition. >> reporter: if you think these young women are out of place at this meeting of boy scout troupe 52 in chevy chase, maryland you'd be wrong. they belong to the troupe's venture crew, venturing as it's called is coed and it's been part of boy scouting since the late '90s. >> they do everything the boys do. it's high time they get the recognition they deserve. >> i pledge allegiance to the flag -- >> reporter: some of these young women had previously participated in girl scouts. one still does. this summer members of troupe 52's venture crew did a canoeing excursion in canada. >> you get different things out of it. like the service aspect and the self-improvement. and i like the outdoorsiness. so there's something for

100 are still unaccounted for. the number of missing continues to drop. some who've turned up safe say they never knew rescuers and family members were looking for them. thousands of cool cal national guard troops are now helping local police and fire departments. and after a long two weeks doreen is back from napa and san juan, puerto rico. welcome back. >> those wildfires were quite something. i've never seen anything quite like that. they move so quickly and the winds change without warning. a lot of people didn't really have enough time to get out. >> fortunately it looks like the conditions out there are going to continue to get better. temperatures lower, a little more humidity, maybe even a chance of showers over the next few days. they really need that. a lot of those fires coming under better containment in those regions as well. we'll hope the best for them over the next days and weeks. our weather a little bit of a different story here. we are on the cold side for

only the second time -- tonight i think the second time this season we're going to have temperatures in the 30s in some areas. right now 55 degrees. winds out of the northwest at 12 miles an hour. most of the rest of the region not seeing much in the way of wind at all. and because of the calming of the winds we're really starting to see those temperatures fall. 46 right now in manassas, only 44 degrees in culpepper. 50 in the gaithersburg area. winchester only 43. those wrarz will dropping into the 30sly quickly as you move on to the rest of the night. no rain po speak of, it's clear, dry, and another reason why we're going to fall so fast tonight, the cold front that came through, let me show you the wider picture. here it is making its way downtown south and east away from our region but notice the air behind it all coming out of the north. all coming straight from canada and farther back. not much in the way of clouds at all. this is high pressure that's going to sit and dominate for days. the entire rest of the week i'm predicting nothing but sunshine and clear skies. what does that mean for

well, very cool night like we have tonight and very nice afternoons. tomorrow morning 46 in the city, no frost advisory from d.c. to the south and east but to the west 38 gaithersburg, 36 culpepper, 36 winchester. again, frost will warm above freeze freezing up to 37 or 38 degrees and that's what we've got in many areas. you may even need the ice scraper tomorrow morning but a couple other things you might need, think about, it the jacket, the sweater, the boots. everyone's asking when can we wear the boots? you can wear the boots tomorrow. but also dress in layers over the next couple of days. think about that too. you stepping out the front door you may have the jackets on but during the afternoon they won't need the jackets at all. 64 and sunny, that is a very nice day after a very chilly start. thinking about the next couple of days that's exactly what we're going to see. how about that fall foliage? a lot of people asking about that this time of year. we're in the moderate level now. probably some leaves falling around you but the majority of them are continuing to stay on and are mostly still green.
