he's also accused of accepting payments to store owners who wanted liquor licenses. also today. the issue of nfl players kneeling during the national anthem will be front and center at the league owners meeting. members of the players union will be there. they're going to find a way to move on and find common ground. >> the goal is to try to solve the anthem issue once and for all, not with an edict or mandate but with an offer to the players. a platform separate from the anthem with the players having a seat at the table for these discussions. >> a spokesman for the nfl says the league will endorse a criminal justice reform bill in congress. tmz reporting that harvey weinstein and his brother bob will meet to discuss his firing. the meeting is expected to get loud and ugly we're told. more onwh

someone died as part of a barricade situation in montgomery county. county police say they were asked to do a welfare check on april person inside a house in gaithersburg. they heard a gunshot. they found one person dead inside the home. firefighters are beating back the fires that have burned thousands of homes and buildings in california. even though they contained several fires, some of the worst damage has already been done. news 4's chris lawrence is at the live desk following the progress. good morning. >> good morning, eun. officials are warning families to be careful when they come back. think about the plastic, paint and pesticides in your own home. all that burns down into the ash. you don't want to dig through that without adequate protection. emergency crews are allowing some people to go back home. as tens of thousands return, at least 88

unaccounted for. we also know 41 people have died, including a contract firefighter whose truck veered off the road. the national guard is on the ground checking out all those burned-out buildings. i've been following the california department of fire protection on twitter. they've been posting positive numbers about the weather and the fires starting to be contained. eun? >> they can take all the help they can get. manassas has given the green light to a local charity trying to save the homes of 300 people. this comes after month of one outcry. last year residents of the east end mobile home park, they have to move out because of continued problems with their sewer systems. the property owner couldn't afford to fix it and was planning to sell it to the city. the city council agreed to let him buy it

is going -- in a work zone. maryland state highway administration has been using these cameras for quite some time. this is a way that they want to control safety in work zones. they're trying to bring down the speeds of people who go through the work zones. the crews are rebuilding some bridges over suitland road. let's take a closer look at the numbers. over 23,000 citations since this summer when they went into effect. on it inner loop over 17,000 citations for a total of over 40,000 citations through this particular work zone on the beltway, guys. be a shir that this is in effect here. we got a lot of traffic out here already. one thing you should be aware of, 12 miles per hour or more over the posteds that let you know how

he will have a showdown for the -- it will happen over the phone because weinstein is currently at an arizona treatment center for sex addiction and behavioral issues. tmz says harvey's attorney will make the case he was illegally fired from his company and has the right to come back. at 6:15, prosecutors say they may seek at death penalty in the killing of a 17-year-old girl whose death shocked our area's muslim community. nabra hassanen died in june. capital murder and rape charges have been filed against her suspected killer darwin martinez torres. this is the first time that authorities have said hassanen was raped. they said they were investigating the possibility. hassanen died during ramadan. she was walking back to a mosque in sterling, virginia with a group of teenagers. one of the boys she was with got into an argument with torres bhofs driving by.

back to you. jack, thank you. it's now 6:33. your top stories this morning. firefighters are making progress against the deadly wildfires in california. the weather is improving and they are allowing a lot of people to go back home now. tens of thousands are no longer under evacuation orders. the fires destroyed some 5700 homes and other buildings so far. recovery of a woman from maryland shot in the las vegas massacre is being called a miracle. doctors at johns hopkins are now caring for tina frost. she's recognizing family members and friends. she still has a long road ahead. she's not speaking at this point. it's too soon to know the extent of any brain damage. the aides of former president obama are firing back at president trump. they're criticizing mr. trump's false claim that mr. obama and other presidents did not call families of fallen soldiers. >> the

abandoning america's role as an international leader is "unpatriotic." we have breaking news right now at 6:35 in the race to be the next governor of virginia. >> new numbers showing the race is tightening and chris lawrence there at the live did he say tock break it all down. >> these numbers came out in the past 30 minutes and showed republican ed gillespie closing the gap with democrat ralph northam. there was a poll showing northam leading gillespie 48 to 44%. for the first time northam is within the margin of error of 4.2 percentage points. the winner could impact virginia's position on immigration, how much you pay in taxes as well as your funding for your schools and roads. both candidates are pulling out the heavy hitters. former president george w. bush is attending fundraisers for gillespie. former president barack obama will be campaigning with northam on thursday. eun?
