news4 midday begins with breaking news.... >> hi, good morning, everybody, i'm erika gonzalez. >> i'm lynn yang. we have more news out of northeastern maryland. >> a shooting at a business park, we are learning how badly they are injured and how many were shot. the shooting was in the town of edgewood north of baltimore. our news partner in baltimore says there are multiple hotels and motels in that area with a heavy police presence around the motel 6. they say some buildings are locked down right now. but the streets are opened. the hartford county sheriffs local police depant

are all on the scene right now. we do have a news crew on the way, be sure to watch for updates in the newscast and in the nbc washington app. thieves did their best to get away with cash in clinton this morning. as can you see by these pictures, they left an absolute mess. there was an attendant in the store as this robbery unfolded, his quick thinking with his phone may have helped solve this case. >> reporter: we're at the dash-in convenience store at dangerfield and woodyard roads here. still a lot of damage left heaped by this overnight atm attempted theft. you see that atm now in piece, mostly intact. it's been pulled out of the store front. i want to show you the under surveillance image of that truck involved in the crash overnight. the worker inside says about 2:30 this morning, he heard banging on the

he saw that truck backing up an banging in the store once the glass came down, two wen men went into the store and tried to pull that atm out. when that happened, he called 911. >> i went to the back room, where the bathroom was at. i locked myself in there. i lad to call dispatch. i'm like, it's crazy, because i ain't never experienced something like this. >> reporter: and as you can see the store has been ordered closed. so that repairs can begin here. i spoke with the manager earlier, he says it will likely be some days before they can resume business back to normal here. as for that worker, he was not hurt. tho that worker believes the truck had some damage to it, perhaps on the front end. we can zell tell you that prince george's county police say they are gathering clues and hope t

myesha johnson weeping on the coffin of her husband le david johnson. the couple's 6-year-old daughter and two-year-old son by her side. sergeant johnson was one of six soldiers killed in niger, when the president called him before the casket arrived home. >> he said something to the fact that he knew what he was getting into when he signed up, but i guess it hurts, wane aye. >> reporter: the congress woman says it lasted three-to-five minutes and the only response is thank you t. white house tells nbc news the president's conversations are private. it was a question about the deaths of those four soldiers that prompted the president to make this comment earlier in the week about his predecessor's contact with families of the fallen. >> a lot of them didn'te

struggling with assignments online. >> i'm using it primarily for school purposes only. it's allowing me to access on the home or on the go wherever i am to do assignments i am not able to do on my phone. >> reporter: nearly 3,000 high school students will get the devices. they can keep them while in high school. it's a part of sprint to connect students with technology and internet access to promote academic success. >> a million high speed devices in the hands of students that otherwise wouldn't have access to the internet at home. they can complete their homework, and apply for scholarship, college and get jobs. >> reporter: giving students access to technology is a step to closing what's called the homework gap. >> 70% of high school teachers assign homework that requires internet access, yet hundreds of thousands of high school students lack interlet in access at home. >> reporter: this is the first year for the

already 180,000 students in 1,300 schools have gotten their own devices and access to the internet. and back out live, this is just the rollout of the program. today 125 students, including this young lady here, bo to machigh school getting these devices. as we said, eventually 3,000 students will have them in their hands for homework. >> a good day there, thank you. developing this morning, firefighters say a person smoking a cigarette wearing an oxygen mask started the fire and it damaged several units inside the apartment building on sky lar road last night. the tenant that started the fire had to go to the hospital t. led cross is helping those displaced families. coming up, the man police say is stealing from vacuums and has already gone away with as

. we're following breaking news right now, a shooting another an office park in edgewood, maryland. police just updating on the situation. five people were shot and three people are dead in this situation right now. the sheriffs office showing a picture of the suspect they've identified as radid prince. this is a live conference. we will let you listen in for a second. >> a 2000 black chevy acadia, c charles 064273. early reports involve another vehicle, a dodge charger. >> that vehicle has been located and has been eliminated from the search. as far as we know the suspect is

again, i have to thank our law enforcement partners and our county partners. we have set up a reception center working in the county executive, mr. glassman is here with us as well. we set up a reception center for the families over at the richland ball room behind us and for people who are coming and that's being overseen by the department of emergency services. this does appear to be a target attack limited to that business. so with that, i am going to take, we are asking that if anyone sees the suspect, obviously, he is armed and dangerous. we don't want anyone to take action on their own. we want you to dial 911 and let us know. >> is there a relationship between the suspect and anybody there or that business? >> we do believe he is associated with that business. what that association is, that's still under investigation. we believe he is

located there. but that is where we found the car the second vehicle possibly associated as a vehicle with the suspect. >> [ inaudible question ]. >> we do not. at this point -- at this point we are looking for just there suspect. 100%. we do not believe there were others involved, at this point in the investigation, we do not believe anyone else was involved other than the person i gave you the name of and operating that chevy acadia when he left. >> do you consider him armed and dangerous? >> are you listening to authorities there update the situation. a shooting that happened at the advanced granite solutions in edgewood, maryland. the new information that they have just released is they are looking for a suspect by the name of radeeb prince in a 2000 plaque chevy acadia. they say this is a very targeted attack t. information is five people were shot. three people are

don't believe anyone else was involved. currently they are searching for that one suspect. police also saying that the five victim itself, including the three people are dead were all employees of this company. again, they're not saying whether or not the suspect had any association with the company, but there is a manhunt under way right now in edgewood, maryland, searching for the suspect radeeb prince, they say he is armed and dangerous, if have you any situation, call police right away. all right. we want to switch gears here. we have good news if you have been watching the stock exchange on the past couple of days, a good thing for your peng on the 401kt. dow jones is up about 120 points, it hit 23,000 for the first time yesterday. for now, most financial advisers say leave your money in the market unless have you big expenses in the coming year prosecutors say the new evidence proves the murder was

schools in napa, california remain closed today because of poor air quality due to those wildfires. they're reopen on monday, meanwhile, 88 people are still missing this morning in california following that massive wildfire in wine country. the national guard is on the ground helping sift through the rubble of burnt out homes. 41 people have died and nearly 6,000 homes destroyed. 34,000 people still under an evacuation order this morning. firefighters say they are making progress putting it out. well, you may notice more people near the national mall today, protesters plan to march from the u.s. capitol to the trump international hotel starting at noon. organizers say they're urging national lawmakers to do more for hurricane-battered communities including texas, florida the u.s. virgin islands and puerto rico. as of t

dating back to 2011, ford has been ininstructing owners how to fix them since 2012. when james temple brought it to a local dealership because he was concerned, he was told this whole carbon mok monoxide thing was fake news. >> i asked to the people there about it. they say people putting something on the news vochlt so they blamed it on the news. >> they said nothing wrong, they hadn't heard anything about it. >> 18 in the back, 20 in the front. >> reporter: we had his car tested and the toxicologist found levels of carbon monoxide that alarmed him. >> this clearly is a level of concern. >> reporter: and in nikki's case the ford dealership found leaks and fixed them, then charged her $600 bucks. >> i don't think i should be responsible for something that number one isn't my fault, number two is a serious health risk for me and my family. >> reporter: while dealerships will repair the leak, one thing we have learned from

dealers are not testing for levels of carbon monoxide, remember, ford insists it has not found any unsafe levels, if dealerships aren't testing, hoy would they know? we asked ford this very question, their response -- these vehicles are safe. ford has thoroughly tested vehicles and has not found carbon monoxide levels that exceed what people are exposed to every day. researching complaints to federal regulators, we found a lot of confusion when it comes to how ford dealerships are handling complaints, like this one, an explorer owner in d.c. who says the dealership had no idea what he was talking about or this complaint from a waldorf, maryland, ford owner, i brought it to a ford dealership, they said it was nothing. we asked ford about the mixed messages the company telling news 4 it is doing something about it. by the end of this month, all dealers nationwide will have a completeea
