>> police tell us he opened fire on co-workers in maryland and then took off for delaware. six people shot across two states. tonight, three are dead. >> the rampage started in hartford county, about 25 minutes north of baltimore. news4's kristin wright is live from the scene where all of this started in edgewood, maryland. kristin? >> reporter: well, i talked with one of the employees a few minutes ago and asked him about radee prince and all he had to say was that he was, quote, difficult. let's take you through what we know. five people were shot this morning in edgewood. three are dead. two are in the hospital in critical condition. all of them worked here at advanced granite solutions. the suspected gunman then left for delaware. >> this is a really, really sad event that has happened. here it is, again, another event, another tragedy. >> reporter: thiser

advanced granite solutions tonight. >> there's people and people have lost lives. there's loved ones out there and we just wanted to come and be a part of community. >> reporter: a manhunt for a person who says police shot five co-workers and three are dead. he worked at advanced granite solution in edgewood. ray was opening up a neighboring business when an hysterical man ran in screaming. >> he was scared out of his mind. you know what i mean? it looked like somebody was running from a shooter, basically. all i cost was pistola and my dad said policia like in a question and he said, si, si. >> reporter: prince crossed state lines and shot someone at a used car lot in delaware. he got away again.

dangerous. >> no stone will be left unturned until he's brought into custody. >> reporter: taking a look here at radee prince, police think he's in a 2008 black gmc acadia with delaware plate pc64273. the sheriff here in hartford county says the question is why. he says investigators are working on a motive. back to you. >> kristin wright reporting, thank you. >> police says suspect was fired from another job after he attacked a co-worker there. a former co-worker of radee prince tried to get a restraining order against him in february after claiming the suspect punched another employee in the face and threatened colleagues. a hartford county judge denied that order. much more coverage on that story as it develops on air and online here on news4. now to that fallen soldier firestorm. tonight president trump is

conversation with a gold star widow from florida. the pregnant wife of sergeant la david johnson was on her way to view the dignified transfer of her husband's remains when the call came in, according to congresswoman wilson. wilson says she was there and the call was on speaker phone. the president expressed his sympathies but wilson says he also made comments she found insensitive. >> sarcastically he said, but you know he must have known what he signed up for and said it more than once. >> didn't say what that congresswoman said. she now is not saying it. >> congresswoman wilson told nbc news she stands by her account in an interview with "the washington post" she called the if the crazy and, in her words, a liar. news4 has learned that the family of a maryland

president trump nevered reach out to them to offer condolences. >> no phone call and no letter. meagan fitzgerald has reaction from the young man's mother. meagan? >> it's been two months since her son was killed. she says president trump has not reached out to her in any way even though her son protected our country and gave his life for it. ♪ >> reporter: timothy was laid to rest with full military honors last week in arlington national cemetery. a few days earlier, i sat down with his mother rachel, still grieving the loss of her only son, she told me that he was a kind and loving person who would do anything for anyone. rachel says she will never forget the moment she was told her son was killed after the "uss mccain" collided with a merchant vessel at sea. >> he just basically told us he was

restrictions are a matter of security. >> erika, thank you. a sex offender accused of luring a woman into a job interview on craigslist has been charged with sexual battery. news4's jackie bensen is outside the fairfax police headquarters. police think there could be more victims? >> reporter: doreen, they tell us so far they have received three reports of creepy and criminal behavior by this guy and we have learned he is a registered sex offender in maryland. police say 44-year-old imtiaz rauf is charged with sexual battery of a woman who thought she was adding an ad for an administrative assistant. >> the offender posted on craigslist and he w

to this location for an interview and when they arrived, that's when a sexual assault took place. >> reporter: now, court records though that rauf was convicted of sexual solicitation of a minor in 2010. the office where these recent incidents took place is located at 12005 on sun valley drive in reston. police want to know if anyone else had a similar experience there. live in fairfax county police headquarters, jackie bensen, news4. >> jackie, thank you. you may remember the massacre at the washington navy yard. today, emergency crews investigated reports of a suspicious substance in that same building where the shooting occurred. building 197 was on lockdown for at least an hour today and the substance was not a threat. employees did not have

evacuate. a frightening ordeal for diners and staff at a restaurant in laurel today. an explosion in an electrical panel blew out a huge chunk of the back wall during lunchtime. two workers suffered minor injuries. this was shot over the olive garden on route 1 at cherry lane. there were about 15 employees and 70 customers inside at the time. investigators are still trying to determine a cause. the long road to recovery. up next, a father talks about his daughter's progress and upcoming surgery in maryland after the las vegas surgery ramp age. >> both of my eyes were black and i knew i couldn't keep my kids there to see that. >> a woman remembers when she was finding shelter from an abusive relationship. i'm tracee wilkins. coming up on news4, the help available for women in this situation. also, used

white house. "the washington post" reported the officer of a personal check in the amount of $25,000 was not sent. the president apparently called the father of army sergeant dylan baldridge and shared his condolences. today, nbc confirmed with the father that as of today, he had not received a check or seen a gofundme page, something that the president also mentioned in their conversation. the white house says the check was in fact sent out, to use their words, recently. all of this after numerous reports on how the president responds to family of fallen service members. back over to you all in the studio. >> erika, thank you. we have an update tonight to a pretty bizarre robbery scheme in our area. >> guys suspected of stealing from coin-operated vacuum cleaners is in custody now. surveillance shows a guy targeting machines at gas stations

fairfax. >> reporter: now we can say his name. now we can show his picture, the suspect in the coin vacuum caper, locked up. the suspect identified as 41-year-old james jackson from elkridge, maryland, now wanted in fairfax, county, in connection with a number of coin thefts from car vacuums here. he's said to be the subject of other investigations in other states as well. sources say surveillance cameras at a number of stations caught a man using special tools to break special locks and to steal quarters from the coin-operated vacuums. the losses are said to be substantial. tens of thousands of dollars. police say one of the places targeted by jackson, this gas station on

question, what should be the penalty? fined or arrest? councilmember who represents ward 8 has introduced a bill that would decriminalize fare evasion in the district. you believe there's an unfair enforcement going on? >> there's been a 40% increase in arrests made by metro as far as fare evasion. we feel like it should not be arrests. it should be more fines. >> reporter: metro does admit a crackdown on fare evaders has happened. there was an ad out today saying 92% of fare stops result in either a warning or citation and results are almost always a resulted of another crime, like an outstanding warrant. metro can't say exactly how much they are losing but it's estimated in the tens of millions of dollars. in t

an olympic gymnast is joining the me, too, movement on social media. mckayla maroney is blaming a doctor already in jail on sexual abuse charges. she says

abusing her when she was 13 years old. she talks about the abuse in a twitter post. nassar was a long-time doctor and is accused of assaulting 140 girls and women. he pleaded not guilty and is behind bars awaiting trial. twitter is full of supportive posts for maroney and other victims. this user calls the gymnast brave for sharing her story and another says she's glad more women in general are speaking up because sexual abuse needs to stop. another thanks maroney for coming forward. on your mark, get set, we are only four days away now from the marine corps marathon and tens of thousands of runners are expected to turn out. with all of the street closures downtown and in arlington, metro is going to be your best bet to get around. rail service begins early sunday, 6:00 a.m. and there will be extra trains on the blue and yellow lines. if you're headed down to

tonight they are sharing their story with susan hogan after they say nobody else would listen. >> yeah. it feels like i've been left out to dry by the legislators. >> tonight, we are getting answers for those families. >> susan tells us what she learned and what happens next. >> the very people whose job it was to protect us every day feel totally helpless when virginia's line of duty act underwent an overhaul july 1st, some family members lost a major benefit. 18 months and on the go times two. these twins are active little boys, which scares their dad. >> i got a letter back in probably not until may saying that my two youngest were no longer covered. >> reporter: his boys dropped from their dad's health insurance plan. >> i thought it was a mistake. >> reporter: but it wasn't a mistake, nor is it

insurance, too. >> he received the medical coverage for 15 years, but now they are taking it away. >> reporter: both scott and julie suffered career-ending injuries while on duty with the fairfax county police and sheriff's department and both became eligible for the line of duty act which provided benefits for themselves and their families. the plan underwent an overhaul that costs would double over the next ten years. one of the changes, family members who were added on to the health insurance plan after the members disability lost their coverage. >> i've called everyone. i've called the governor's office. they've never responded. i've called my senator. he doesn't want to do anything. i've called my delegate. she's never called me back. >> reporter: but they are responding to news4. we obtained a list of people who were part of a task force that helped come up

changes, including delegate chris jones, the sponsor of the legislation. he told us back in june everyone was aware that some family members would lose coverage. but when we reached out to those on this list, we learned that wasn't always the case. many members telling us their circumstances were not specifically addressed. some said never disclosed. others suggested the matter be revisited and this member saying, any way i can reverse it, i intend to. as for scott, he recently received an e-mail from delegate kirk cox saying he and other members are aware of the hardships that the confusion over this law is causing for many virginia families and he is hopeful that a solution can be found. >> i don't feel like i'm asking for anything that i didn't earn, is how i feel. that's how i feel. i do. >> i think what bothers me the most is that there's yet to be anybody to step up to help us. i an
