attacking two prominent republicans. former president bush and john mccain. what is behind this? then he's vowing a season of war against the establishment republicans. i mean, what's his goal and the potential impact of this so-called war? >> what steve bannon is trying to do to the republican party, senators, members of the house, governors, every elected official in the country, he's trying to make every elected official be a donald trump style republican. he's trying to continue the war the trump administration has launched, in addition to the republican party. so much of what he said last night would have been absolutely unthinkable in major politics a year or two years ago. think about that. he went after george w. bush. he went after john mccain. in the campaign, donald trump said george w bush lied us into iraq and john mccain wasn't a war hero. so many of these fights that are popping up right now are fighting that, in some way, we went through during the campaign. what donald trump established in the campaign, whatever anybody

established during the campaign is it is possible to say those things and get elected president. bannon is saying, we can do more than president, we can change the republican party. >> let's go back to the controversy over the condolence calls to the family of fallen soldiers inhis country, a story that's dominated the headlines this week. president trump defending his alaskas in the tv interview that will air on sunday. congresswoman wilson playing the race card late yesterday, saying the white house is full of white supremacists. what's really happening here? i mean, is this an issue that's been politicized by both sides? >> well, remember, i said it feels like there are things that would never have been at issue in politics before the last year or two. this is another one. the death of an american hero, the death of a soldier, the president's response to this. i can't remember a time when something like this has been at issue in partisan politics, but i would say this is the trumpification of politics. he succeed

koreans. while this is a country that frowns upon dissent, what we have found from most north koreans is they say while they want peace, they are ready for war, even a nuclear war with network. in terms of the questions of whether north korea might threaten the winter olympics, which are due to take place in south korea next year, we have asked them again and again whether the skaters who qualified for the games will actually compete. so far, there appears to be no decision on that. perhaps that will be an indication. of course, if north koreans were taking part in the games, it would seem less likely that a government here in pyongyang would threaten those very games. but we'll see. craig and sheinelle, back to you. >> thank you. meanwhile, back at home, a developing story down south, where police in florida are trying to figure out if a serial killer on the loos

tampa in the past two weeks. police are working around the clock to catch their killer, or killers. kerry sanders has more. >> reporter: this morning, police asking for help in finding this person. a possible serial killer captured on surveillance camera, prowling the city streets. late this week, what could be victim number three. anthony, a 20-year-old with autism, shot dead on the street after he'd accidentally taken the wrong bus home from work. officers blanketing the area heard the shot, but the suspected gunman eluded capture. >> we still have no leads. we have no motive. >> reporter: his body was discovered near the home of the first victim. 22-year-old benjamin mitchell, who was shot and killed 11 days ago. less than 300 yards away. 32-year-old monica hoff's body was found in a vacant lot two days later. police do not believe the victims are lke

loaded with crude oil caught fire friday. officials say the barge carrying more than 130,000 barrels of oil was being pulled by a tugboat to a refinery in texas when it exploded. one crew member died. six remaining crew members were rescued without serious injuries. a major interstate highway reopened after a multi-vehicle car friday in chambers county, texas. rain and poor visibility caused around 25 vehicles to pile up like dominos. more than 30 people were injured but, thankfully, none of them seriously. it is one of the ultimate events in sports. a game seven in the playoffs. tonight, houston astros will face off against the new york yankees, each hoping to make it to the world series. last night, thanks to some big hits from altuve, and dominant pitching by verlander, the astros knocked off the yankees 7-1. even the american league championship series three games

this morning, we're learning the los angeles police department investigating at least one of those serious allegations. nbc's steve patterson has the latest. >> reporter: harvey weinstein's latest accuser, emotionally detailing yet another hollywood horror story involving the media mogul. >> i felt so powerless. because he is, after all, very powerful. >> reporter: friday, former actress heather kerr alleged weinstein forced her to touch his genitals during a casting meeting in the late '80s. he told me that this was how things worked in hollywood. and that all of the actresses that had made it had made it this way. >> reporter: kerr's account adds to reports of more than 60 women accusing weinstein of everything from sexual harassment to rape. shortly after kerr's announcement, the attorney for an italian actress and model reasserted claims his client was raped four years ago inside this v

market now, or am i too late to the party? our friend stephanie ruhle, former investment banker, is here to break it all down. good to see you. >> morning. i also like parties. i mike marklike markets a parti >> first of all, what is driving this rally? >> the rally didn't start when president trump won and, granted, we've seen a real trump bump, the promise of deregulation and tax reform, but this rally has been going on since 2009. it's largely in part to low interest rates. low interest rates around the world. when interest rates are low, companies can borrow, they're flexible, they can hire. so you're seeing this steady climb over time. that's been a really big positive. >> it is interesting to note, about half of americans don't have any investments. let's say someone is at home, they have $1,000 to invest. that's it. what would you say they should do? are there easy ways to get started? >> it is important to note. when you say the economy is doing great, look at the stock market, half

can't time the market, you can't choose the bottoms or the highs. even professional investors can't. if you want to get in, start easy. blue chips, for example. if you take the dow jones industrial average, you have 30 big stocks out there. why are they called blue chips? based on their reputation, their history, their past profitability. now, past profitability does not guarantee future returns, but you know it is a safer bet. they've done well in the past. that's the way to dip your toe in if you want to buy an individual stock. if you want to go broader than that, a safer bet, mutual funds. it is a portfolio. a bunch of different names, kind of tipping your toe in. then you have a professional investor running that mutual fund and you have to pay a fee. you have to make sure that's not some huge fee that's going to eat up your profit. then your third option would be an index. in that, you're basically making an entire bet on the economy. you're buying the s&p. you're buying the dow

bet the market is going to go up. now, remember, any investment you could absolutely lose. you cannot walk in saying, i know i'm going to do well. you need patience. if you lose money and you do sell, and sell before the year is out, and you sell below where you bought the stock, you get to write that off. >> at this point, a lot of folks have suggested that perhaps a number of these stocks are ov overpriced. of course, i think this was the week that marked the 30th anniversary of the '87 crash. are we headed, perhaps, for another course correction? >> there could be a correction. as it relates to the crash that we saw all those years ago, that is what you call a black swan. that is a one off event. even since then, now there are circuit breakers in the market. so if there is an extreme drop, the regulators turn the machines off and say, let's slow down. even when that crash happened, or

patience heals all wounds. by the end of the year, things actually went up in both of those cases. but if you want to know if we'll have a correction now, hard to tell. what you want to do is look at the overall market and say, there are ten sectors. of the ten sectors, what has out performed the market? things like health care have. things like hot, hot areas. if you say that's out performed the market, if i chase it, that could be a mistake for me. why don't you look for things that under performed the market? if you look at the bottom sectors, really study them. if there is a wave and they catch up, you might want to ride those. >> thank you. where were you in my econ class? college? that was good. you can watch her on msnbc at 9:00 a.m. eastern. dylan, what's next? >> the recruit for showing zero interest in doing a good job. why is the country's

house, thank you. the fbi is getting involved in the investigation into that deadly attack in niger that left those four american soldiers dead. the fbi is lending forensic support to find out how a team of well-trained special forces was ambushed by what the pentagon describes as a group of 50 isis-linked fighters. the funeral for 25-year-old army sergeant la david johnson is being held this morning in florida. an investigation is underway in munich, germany, for a man who went on a stabbing spree. five people were injured in the attack. the motive is not known. police have one man in custody but cannot confirm whether he is the attacker. a los angeles judge tossed out a $417 million award against johnson & johnson, granting that company's request for a new trial. citing errors and misconduct in the last one. the award was originally won two months ago by a
