>> it's going to be beautiful out there. average temperature for this time of year, in the upper 60s. we'll pass that not only today but also tomorrow. it is a beautiful morning out there right now. the sun came up at 7:24. just a look at the national harbor. the wheel was spinning earlier this morning but not anymore. you can see the blue skies right behind it. 54 degrees is our temperature right now. we'll continue to take it up a few more degrees by the top of the 9:00. by 11:00, already in the upper 60s. right after lunchtime, we're in the low 70s. couple things we're going to be talking about. keeping it warm. we do have some rain. much-needed rain coming our way. and we also have a return to cooler temperatures. it is october 21st. when is it going to feel like fall finally? we'll talk about that in 15 minutes. >> lauryn, we'll check in then. time now, 8:30. we want to revisit our breaking news. this is something that could impact you with plans in and around the d.c.

bridge, as we take a live look here, shut down in both directions. we're hearing that a person was hit by a driver of a car. as we take the live look from our city camera right now, you can see that there is not too much traffic. >> you're looking at not the memorial bridge. that's closer to the kennedy center. closer to us is the memorial bridge right there. there's no movement on the memorial bridge. we're panning right there to give you a feel. it is stopped as of right now. we just got this in a few moments ago. this is now a deadly incident involving a pedestrian. that pedestrian has lost his or her life. we're trying to get information here. in fact, derrick ward has been sent to that scene. he's going to gather some details for us. as soon as he gets that information, we'll relay it to you. >> a lot of questions surrounding this incident. stay with news 4. also breaking, another investigation we're following slowly here. this is underway after a

traffic collision in derwood. officers responding around 2:30 this morning. responders were met with an injured 19-year-old pedestrian who was still in the roadway. the pedestrian was transported to the hospital and that's where he died because of those injuries. a busy morning, folks. prince george's county now. you can see there the scene. quite active. police investigating an early morning homicide. this is where they say they found a man who had been shot around 2:30 this morning. it's in hyattsville. in case you're wondering, this is near sheraton and 20th avenue. not a lot of details coming out of this. once we get more information, including who is involved, we'll pass it along. 8:32. we turn to another story that's unfolding quickly. another deadly shooting. this time it happened in d.c.'s anacostia neighborhood. >> near u and 16th streets in southeast just before 11: 0 last

night. we're hold a woman died here. a man was also shot. that man is expected to survive. we don't know who the gunman is in this situation. this is something that investigators are still looking into. when that update comes along, we're going to push it out through the nbc washington app. speaking of updates, this is a story that resonated with a lot of you and many had interest in. now we know the man accused of murdering the brother of virginia tech football player is expected to be in court this morning. local singer omar rogers was shot and killed earlier this month in southeast d.c. you see him here with his younger brother, who is also a freshman wide receiver at virginia tech, and a former star wide receiver. police arrested jones and charged him with first degree murder. rogers was 25 years old. one of the biggest events of the year really in this area. the marine corps marathon. the marine corps marathon kids

soon. you can see the start line right there. the little runners range in ages from 5 to 12 years old. the kids course is a one-mile loop at arlington. tough to get kids up early. sometimes they're waking mom and dad up early, too. six separate waves. the first kicks off at 9:30 this morning, a little under an hour from now. chuck bell was out there, too. he is emceeing the event. >> energy is always really good. every year, the marine corps marathon attracts runners from all walks of life. >> i was at reagan national last night. a bunch of people coming in for the race. whether it is their first marathon or maybe 42nd -- can you imagine -- every runner has their own story. mark segraves takes us through a few of the unique journeys. >> reporter: al richmond, former marine, is retired and living in northern virginia. he'll be wearing bib 42 on sunday morning because he'

running his 42nd marine corps marathon. he's the last person known as the groundpounders, to have run every single marine corps ma marath marathon. >> i'm sad the others aren't. i don't know whether this could be my last one also. we'll have to see. >> reporter: for chris koch, this will be his first marine corps marathon and he'll be the first person ever to do the race on a skateboard. born with no legs or arms, skateboarding is how chris gets around. >> i've had a lot of people come up to me and say, hey, i really was out of gas and then i saw you come around the corner. i was like, yeah, no, i have to keep going. it's pretty awesome. i mean, even able-bodied runners to other able-bodies runners are so supportive and encouraging. it is an amazing community for sure. >> so inspiring. just a couple of the many,

race brings to our area. >> i don't know if you feel the same way but sometimes on the sidelines, it is self-server. you're so inspired and motivated. it is great to be there, even getting up that early. if you're not going to be in tomorrow's race and you're not running, join us. news 4 is at mile four. that's where our team will be set up to cheer on the runners. show you a look at the course in and of itself. this is the course map. 26.2 mile race, right? starts and ends in arlington. tens of thousands of runners are going to go through alexandria, rosslyn and d.c. dozens of roads will be closed, some as early as 3:30 in the morning. not a great idea to be driving around this area tomorrow. >> that's right. with all the people here for the marine corps marathon weekend, security is going to be top of mind, both on the ground and also from above. the deadly shooting rampage from a hotel room in vegas is adding a new layer of concern. this is a high profile event in our area, the nation's capital. 30,000 people from around the

back at 8:41. we want to revisit the breaking news this morning. a deadly accident on the arlington memorial bridge. going to affect many there. >> derrick ward is on the scene and joins us live with the very latest. derrick, what have you learned? >> reporter: good morning. this happened about 7:30 this morning. that's when the incident started. you can look down the arlington memorial bridge. we are looking from the virginia side. you see the lincoln memorial in the background there. about 7:30 this morning, it was reported that there was a accident, accident with a pedestrian fatality. we don't have any information on this. as a matter of fact, united states park police are asking anyone who might have seen anything to get in touch with them. they actually have a tip line they want information to come into. if anyone can help them with this. but again, an accident

several jurisdictions working this. d.c. fire and ems transported the victim. united states park police are handling this part of the investigation. it happened, it appears to be, in the middle of the bridge. the bridge is actually going to be closed starting at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow because of the marathon. but you're going to not be able to cross this bridge for a while yet. we don't know how long the scene will be held. again, it is a fatal investigation. that does take some time. expect traffic on either side now. if you are used to traversing the bridge, and even the joggers have to reroute their morning exercise routes because of this. not allowing pedestrians or vehicles on the bridge while they investigate the fatality. no information about the vehicle involved or who was killed, whether a jogger or pedestrian, on the street or the wide sidewalks you find on either side of the bridge. so that is the story here at arlington memorial bridge. investigation into a

she was nearing the song when she went down to one knee. she posted this to her instagram with a statement. quote, probably won't ever be invited to sing it again, but i had to take a knee for the opening game in my city and let my voice be heard. end quote. spokesperson for the nets said they were unaware that she was planning to do that. now to this developing story. this is working out of the gulf of mexico this morning. the u.s. coast guard searching for two crew members after this massive explosion. look at this. this is on an oil barge. happened early friday morning, just off the texas coast near corpus christi. officials say the fire has been put out, but they're continuing to keep an eye on it. as far as the air is concerned, well, they're sure that it's been checked and no threat to the public and the folks who live and work in that area. crews working hard to contain any oil spilled after that blast. the california wildfires are being called the worst in history. people out there have lost everything. in the midst of all the rubble

mid to upper 70s by this afternoon. nothing happening on the storm team 4 radar thanks to high pressure in charge. up and down the east coast, still looking good, thanks to, again, high pressure in charge. so we do not have a lot of rain in the forecast. definitely not today or tomorrow or even monday, though we will have cloud cover on monday. tuesday is a day we could have widespread showers as a frontal system makes its way through the area. to the marine corps marathon kids run. it is today, cool but sunny. howard homecoming, you've had rain a whole bunch of times but looking good for that. the best buddies walk on the national mall, great event. it'll be fabulous. if you have anything to do running errands, going out and about this afternoon, it is going to be dry and warm. you may need that jacket later on tonight, especially if you're out and about on this saturday night. temperatures will slip into the 60s and 50s with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies. sunshine tomorrow.
