show down. >> what a game that was. >> we welcome you in on this sunday morning. >> good morning to you. chilly start. >> this is one of those days that you want a certain type of morning, crisp and cool and spectators want to enjoy too. >> it's going to be a great day ahead, huh? >> it's not going to be that bad out there. now for the runners it might be a little warm. for the spectators probably perfect. let's go ahead and show you what is going on. 54 degrees is that temperature right now and i think we're going to stay right around there as you head out the door this morning. now as we continue through about 7 or 8:00 a.m. you can see we have that sunshine. the sun coming up about 7:24 and then we will have warmer

temperatures. by the finish line. the 30 hour finisher. temperatures in the upper 60s but the longer you wait the higher the temperature is going to go. mid 70s by this afternoon. we'll talk about when we can cool down coming up. >> thank you. it is a day thousands of folks have been training for and it's finally here. the 42nd annual marine corps marathon. >> things will be getting started in just under two hours from now and as usual the race starts and ends in arlington. tens of thousands of runners will pass through. that means dozens of roads will be closed. >> a logistical challenge getting around. am i reading this right on a sunday morning? >> there he is. >> live in arlington. what's up aaron. >> there's few things that would get me up this early on a sunday morning. the marine corps marathon is one of them. there will be thousands of people running through parts of northern virginia int

virginia to get to the finish line. you may be able to hear the music behind me. really good music at the starting line. there's a few marine theres now making sure that everything is set up and ready to go. when things start to kick off we'll see a spectacular fly over and getting people pumped and ready to start the race. it's going to be a spectacular race. >> it's going to be amazing. it's been simpler with the metro opening up at 6:00. that makes it easy for our runners to get here to the start line and focus on running the race and also lets the marines do what they do best, organize, set up and execute. >> so you'll have obviously about 30,000 people registered to participate in the marathon, in the 10k in all the e

what do you expect? folks coming to this race for the first time to watch, what are they going to see when they watch these runners today? >> the runners need you. so if you're listening come out today. it's going to be a beautiful day to spectate and maybe if you're not a runner you'll get the urge to come back out here next year for us but bring the family. it it's, the runners need the motivation. if you come out here in about an hour we're bringing back, the american flag is going to come into the starting line. we have the fly over, the ospreys and no other race putting these people down the range. >> we appreciate the time this morning and we will let you get back to work. we know you have a race to get off and things will be starting around 7:30. the marathon starting line, the gun you'll hear that at

one person has died. we don't know if there's other people in the van. other vehicles appear to be involved. route 301 is closed in both directions. >> let's take you now into the distri district, northeast in particular where one person was rushed to the hospital after a fire. it happened in an apartment building on 8th street. the fire started around 8:30 last night. it was electrical in nature and isolated to one room. >> some people who normally live at a high-rise are waking up somewhere else this morning. that's because a transformer caught fire yesterday at the promenade tower. we first told you about this yesterday. residents still can't return because the building doesn't have electricity or running water and the elevators don't wo.

getting out. >> always taking care of one of my children to look her right in the face and say we're safe. we're going to be fine. >> six people were taken to the hospital because of all the smoke. the fire caused about $1 million in damage. >> this story is just bizarre and disturbing. a student that lives off campus says that a man came into her bedroom, woke her up, and then left without taking anything. this happened around 3:00 saturday morning near route 1. there's been at least four similar incidents near the college park campus in recent months. in each case man goes into a home usually through an unlocked window or door. so far nobody has been arrested. >> the redskins won't have northbound norman when they take on the eagles tomorrow night. their best corner won't be able to play due

we're not looking at really any rainy conditions until tuesday. so we have all day on monday. a little bit more cloud cover and then cooler weather is coming. we will see cooler weather by the weekend. wednesday and thursday of this week. so current temperatures out there right now. we are in the 50s right here. 54 degrees outside of the beltway. it's a little chilly. 47 in

and so again those temperatures are going to stay right there. the sun comes up then we'll start to move them on up. marine corps marathon. temperatures in the mid 50s as you make your way out the door this morning. especially into the d.c. area if you're coming from the suburbs and then at the pentagon when you're getting ready to go, temperatures in the mid 50s. we have that 7:55 start. through the 50s, however most of the race will be spent in the 60s but by the finish line we'll be in the low 70s. that is not the ideal weather for running 26.2 miles. marine corps marathon at the end a little on the warm side. i do not believe humidity will be a problem today. if you're running later on throughout the afternoon we'll be dry. a few clouds trying to built in later on tonight and that will set the scene up for tomorrow. temperatures in the mid to

gorgeous day out there. again it's going to be sunny and warm out there today. let's look at the radar right now. nothing going on on the radar but let's widen it out and then we notice especially to the west, i didn't wind that far enough but we do have rain headed our way and behind that frontal system we have much cooler conditions. still some mild temperatures off to the west but again we are going to start to see some cooler conditions headed into our area. upper 70s for tomorrow. late night rain we're talking about after i'd say about 9:00 we'll start to see some rain moving in here and that will continue through much of the day on tuesday. some heavy rain possible for that morning commute. here's your ten day forecast. 80% chance of rain on tuesday. it will be breezy. wednesday-thursday back in the low 60s and plenty of sunshine. next chance of rain after that not until tuy.

temperature. we have a few clouds out there and it's nice. it really is. outside of beltway we have temperatures in the 40s. but looking ahead for the marathon of course we have chuck here. live coverage here all morning so temperatures in the 50s. the 7:55 a.m. start. it's going to be warm to finish. especially for the spectators out there it's going to be nice but of course you're watching and not running for the runners it's going to be warm. temperatures in the low to mid 70s by the time they cross that finish line. plenty of sunshine. not a lot more sunshine in the forecast. especially over the next 72 hours. we have rain in the forecast. talk about that coming up. >> all right. thanks. the countdown is on for the start of the 42nd annual marine corps marathon. >> the race gets started in just over an hour from now in arlington and that's where we find news 4's aaron gilcrest live this morning.

the music playing and announcer talking to the runners. there's runners arriving here as we speak. we have seen a steady stream of people working their way toward the start line. the marines have it all set up and ready to go and we're expecting to see close to 30,000 runners participate in the marathon, the 10k and the other events today. it's going to be a packed house. we want to bring in somebody on the list of celebrities. oprah winfrey, jill biden, those celebrities and with them in the list of runners over the years, our own meteorologist chuck bell. >> you put me in the same category as oprah. i'm impressed. >> you belong there. this is going to be your 12th marathon. >> i've run all 12 years but i only finished it 8 times. the last couple of years i have been

with the team. last year i ended up running 19.5 miles last year on race day. >> it's that last trip back over the bridge back on to this side in virginia that kills you. mile 20 is the 14th street bridge. you have to beat the bridge. be over the bridge by a certain time and that's where most people's wall is is around the 20 mile mark. >> i'm wearing three layers of gloves and hat when i'm not on air. last year was the warmest on record for this marathon but this year what, what do we expect? >> it's mid 50s now but it's cool. this is relatively good running weather but it will be 70 degrees by about 11:00 in the morning and that's the three hour finisher mark and for a lot of the every day runners they finish in the 4 to 5 hour range. that's noon to 1:00. that is super warm for runners. hydration is going to be critical for anyone

headed. there was some sort of engine failure. everyone did get off the bus without serious injuries but medics checked them out for smoke inhalation. >> police in montgomery county hope they can one day give closure to a family as to why a 19-year-old family was struck and killed by a car. this happened early yesterday morning when a driver hit him on shady grove road in rockville. he died at the hospital. the driver stayed at the scene. families are devastated after three young men died early saturday following a crash in charles county maryland. >> darcy spencer spoke to the uncle of one of the victims killed that says his life ended before it got started. >> this is a photo of him with his dad. the boy graduated from an adult education program in charles county thursday. tragically he and his two friends died in this crash early saturday morning. the boys uncle came tth

happened. >> he had his whole life ahead of him and friday night he got off and went out with his friends. got off at 10:00. and at 2:09 that was it. >> the video from southern maryland news net shows how violent the crash was. the driver took off when a maryland state police trooper tried to pull him over about 2:00 in the morning. >> as soon as she activated her emergency equipment the vehicle accelerated, actually even pulled over on to the shoulder for a brief moment as if to stop for the trooper and then accelerated exceeding speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. >> police tell me they believe he drove the wrong way and hit a concrete median and went airborne and slammed into a tree near the convenience store. he probably ran because he was scared. >> he was doing the right thing and because a friend of his m

for it. they were all in it together and they were all friends for many years. >> people dropping off flowers here at the scene. maryland state police tell me they believe speed and alcohol were factors in this crash. >> the victims mother lived in puerto rico and she was able to survive the hurricane there but now she is trying to make her way back to charles county to be with the family. >> i want to give you disturbing numbers just out. maryland police are seeing a surge in the number of reports involving hate or bias incidents up 40%. 285 cases in 2016 according to the baltimore sun compared to 203 the year before. police say at least 11 other reports involved people that made a reference about president trump. >> right now, an explosive new report by the new york times that fox news former host

o'reilly $32 million after his contract and he agreed to it after a sexual misconduct settlement with the former colleague. now this story, you probably heard about it but the $32 million settlement alleges that o'reilly forced her into a nonconsensual sexual relationship and sent her sexually explicit material. o'reilly lost his job at fox in april after the times reported that other women had accused him of sexual harassment or verbal abuse. a spokesman for o'reilly said the 32 million leak is obviously designed to kill his chances of getting a new tv job. >> president trump says he's going to allow the release of thousands of government documents related to john f. kennedy's assassination. they have until thursday to disclose the remaining files. it follows a man date that

secti -- cheering section is going to be. even though it's quite it's been fun out here this morning because runners are walking across the bridge for georgetown to get to the start line. so had a chance to talk to some of them and wish them good luck and one of them we met is emily. this will be her fifth marine corps marathon. she's done 15 overall. she talked to us about what brings her back to this one. >> i love to celebrate the marines and i love the feeling of everyone coming together today and just celebrating d.c. the feeling of this marathon is like none other. >> so again we'll see some of the elite runners come across the key bridge probably as early as about 8:20

i have never run a marathon before but chuck was saying once you get into the 70s when you finish it takes a toll on the body. so we'll see how that, of course live coverage all throughout the day. let's show you what's going on with the weather map because it is a beautiful morning out there. the sun coming up, 7:24, 7:25 a.m. this morning but you can see that sunrise once julie pointed the camera that way. it was gorgeous out there. what we're looking at today is pretty quite. we will have a cloudy day on monday. rain on tuesday and then fall finally returns on wednesday. 54 downtown right now in the district. 47 at dulless at this point and then we can see 48 in leesburg. as far as the marine corps marathon goes temperatures through the 50s this morning and then we're in the 70s by early this afternoon an by later on this afternoon we'll be in the upper 70s. so if you're running

throughout the afternoon, again it's not going to be too bad. it will be on the dry side. temperatures today, 78 degrees. sunny and warm out there today. nothing happening on the storm team four radar but we do have a frontal system bringing rain to portions of the midwest. severe thunderstorms down through missouri. that is headed our way but not until tuesday so we will have the clouds from it tomorrow but we will not see the rain until tuesday. that's when we brought that up to about 80%. it will be breezy on tuesday. we'll be in the low 60s on wednesday and thursday. next chance of rain could be at the weekend but right now it looks like tuesday we kept it out for the weekend. >> we are about an hour from the start of the 42nd annual marine

usually it's just marines at the water. throughout the morning people have been telling these stories of runners with inspiring stories. earlier this week i got to meet steve nugent. for 14 years he's been battling two liver transplants and 14 months ago he was on the wait list and told me he said his good-byes to his wife. the call did come and he did get his liver but what motivated him was the idea of being able to once again run a marathon. it's been 30 years since he has run a marathon today. he's going to do that with the help of his family and friends. trying to raise awareness and money for organ donors. we'll be out here bringing it all to you. that's the latest. back to you in the studio. >> that's the ses

sign. i have the clapper and my cow bell and look back behind me there. we have some reinforcements. the nbc 4 flags up and the peacocks out there and we are ready to cheer on the runners. within about a half hour they'll be coming off the parkway on to the key bridge. i met an amazing runner this morning. she lives in georgetown walking across the bridge. her name is lynn james and she is 66 years old. this will be her 16th marine corps marathon. i'll let her tell you how she got hooked on running marathons. >> i started out at age 50. i wanted to do something like running a marathon and i did it. so my second goal for my running was okay i'm going to do one in all 50 states before i'm 60.
