this is on north picket street. a place where people casually jog. they walk their dogs all the time. really unusual for something like this to happen. it happened around 8:30 last night. police say three people were shot. two of them, we have confirmed have died. the other is recovering from serious injuries. news 4 was at the scene. heard from residents who live near the park. >> unusual. and actually shocked. there's been a few sexual assaults there. that's about it. but a shooting, i guess, concerning. yeah. >> very concerning and disturbing. we're working right now to get more information about the victims as well as the ongoing search for the shooter. back to you. >> angie, thank you. it is 5:03 today. an online threat sparked an uptick in security at a pool in prince george's county. students will notice extra police at eleanor roosevelt high school this morning. yesterday the principal sent a lett t

a specific school. news 4's adam tuss will join us live in a few minutes. it's a string of disturbing incidents targeting the college park campus. >> police are trying to figure out who is behind them. aimee cho is where the latest incident happened over the weekend. what do we know? >> reporter: aaron, eun, imagine waking up to find a stranger standing in your bedroom. that's what one college student says happened to her in this neighborhood. this is in the 4600 block of knocks road. that man ran away without taking anything. we have seen surveillance cameras in the neighborhood. it's still too early to tell if they captured what happened much this is a few blocks from where three other similar break-ins happened over the past few weeks. three different women reporting seeing a s

peering through their window or standing in their apartment. one of the cases the man groped one of the women as she slept. now, police have stepped up patrols in the area. they're very concerned. obviously, they're still trying to figure out what happened. they don't know if it's the same man behind the break-ins. another similarity, they involved unlocked doors or windows. so obviously, the lesson. you want to lock doors and windows at night. we spoke with several students who are doing that, but they're still concerned. >> i think it's a shame. i mean, it's terrible to think you could live here and not feel protected in your own home. definitely, it's scary for people to wake up and have someone in your house. >> reporter: now, again, police are stepping up patrols in the area. they're trying to figure out what happened. they're asking people who live here to please stay on lookout and report anything suspicious. eun, aaron. >> aimee cho. thank you. we knowhe

hit and killed on their bicycles in dewey beach, delaware. delaware state police say james walton and richard chid i can from d.c. were killed when a driver slammed into them. police say the driver had some sort of medical condition and blacked out. that's when he veered across coastal highway route 1 and hit the pair stopped at star board bar and restaurant. neighbors of the victims are stunned. >> i mean, i, i just can't fathom it. that they're gone. i just can't believe it. >> the driver who hit them also took out a utility pole and crashed into a parked car. at last check, the driver is in serious condition. some sad news to tell you about as we head into tonight's monday night football game. redskins quarterback kirk cousins' posted this photo and message on instagram last

good morning everybody. i'm aaron gilchrist. i'm eun yuchblt your "news4 today" team working for you. first to your weather and traffic. we begin with chuck bell on the storm team 4 weather deck keeping an eye on a little storm moving our way. >> finally rain chances coming into the picture and fog outside early this morning. picked it up on our tower cameras here. first one is directly over my head looking back towards the parking lot here at the tv station. look at that. you can barely make out the lights. that's the bridge illuminated with headlights and taillights. visibility not much of an issue. visibility 2.5 miles. into southern prince george's county. only a half mile there. fredericksburg, virginia. only a half mile visibility in our hometown this morning. clouds, not all that much of high clouds. burning the fog off early this morning. bumping temperatures up into

fatal crash late last night. after being closed overnight, we know that greenbelt road and aerospace road is back open following an investigation. police saying that two drivers -- two vehicles crashed. one person died on the scene. three others are being treated for their injuries this morning. still no word on what caused this accident. we'll bring you more as we get it. now back to you eun. thank you, angie. 5:133 now. firefighters say smoking appears to be the cause of a fire that killed a woman in northeast washington. the fire started inside a bedroom on this first floor apartment building. saturday night on 8th street. investigator say it appeared the apartment didn't have working smoke detectors. if you need one, call 311 and d.c. firefighters will install one for you. >> it was a bittersweet night for d.c. united and the fans packed into the stadium. the soccer team packed

>> they were hoping to get it done by the end of the year. >> the president wants a bill on his desk by thanksgiving. the pep talk over the weekend in person at a strategy session here. when congress comes back this week, the first order of business is for the house to approve the senate's budget that could raise the deficit but leaves $1.5 trillion open for possible tax cuts. the president has said this will be the biggest tax cut in history. the question remains for whom. he has really focused on driving down that corporate tax to 20%. he wanted it lower. but 20 is where republicans settled in the white house says he's good with that. will it just be businesses getting the tax breaks over working families. it md will class really seeing an impact here. they have yet to fill in the blanks on that. plus, the president saying that the failure of health care could be motivation to get this done. >> we'll see what happens next. tracie potts live on capitol hill f

5:46 now. army sergeant bowe bergdahl will be sentenced this week. he pleaded guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy. the second charge carries a potential life sentence. he walked away from his post in 2009 and was captured by the taliban. he spent five years in captivity before returning to the u.s. through a prisoner ex dmachange 2014. an intruder showed up inside a person's bedroom in college park, maryland. this happened to several students not living in the college park maryland -- now to figure out who -- aimee cho is live where the latest happened. aaron, eun, this is a terrifying situation that's been happening over and over in these neighborhoods. residents tell us they're worried. now, she woke up around 3:00

these cases all involved unlocked doors or windows. obviously a very important reminder that you need to lock your doors and windows at night. eun, aaron. >> keep going up. aimee cho. thank you. bethesda apartment complex remains without electricity and water after a fire on saturday. more than 1100 residents in the promenade apartments were displaced after the fire broke out in the building's electrical room. six people were treated for smoke inhalation and another dozen taken to the hospital for other medical reasons. the fire caused more than $1 million in damage. no word on when everyone will be allowed to return home. a mother of four with twins and three men top nearly 50,000 runners at sunday's marine corps marathon. sarah bishop from fairfax crossed the
