history books at this week's marine corps marathon. news 4 at 4:00 starts now. >> we begin this week first at 4:00 with some big stories. >> that's right. our team is all over the dmv working for you, even tracking storms heading into the region tonight. we're going to check in with storm team 4 here in just a moment. but first another shocker for nats fans. >> ray knight, the washington nats tv analyst is facing assault and battery charges following an incident at his northern virginia home. over the weekend he just spoke with news 4's megagan fitzgeral who joins us live. meagan, did he shed any light on what happened? >> reporter: pat, he tells us it was early sunday morning. he was homa loan at his apartment in alexandria when four guys came over to his apartment. he says he knows two of them but then it's police that tell us not long after that a fight broke out and knight was arrested. >> it was actually

apartment but the games were pretty much over. it was late. >> reporter: former major league baseball all star sports announcer. >> we're going to look at some video. >> reporter: charles ray knight says the astros yankees game was over when four guys came to his apartment sunday morning. >> they came here. i was here alone, these four people came here. >> reporter: fairfax county police say knight and one of the guys who was 33 years old started fighting when investigators arrived, ray knight was arrested and taken to jail, but police say he was also injured in the altercation. >> i can tell you when the officers arrived and did their investigation, there was enough probable cause to make an arrest on one party, and that would be mr. knight. >> reporter: now, you probably notice in the footage there that knight had a bandage around his arm. we asked him if he was okay. he told us he was even though, of course, he was taken to the hospital as well. he bailed out of jail for $2,000 bond, and he's due back in court in january. back to you. >> all r

meagan fitzgerald, thanks, meagan. storm team 4 is tracking a change in our weather. coming off a beautiful weekend. >> weekend was awesome, wasn't it? >> awesome is a good word. >> it was great to be outside. storm zone coming in tonight. let's get to our chief meteorologist doug kammerer, he's in the storm center tracking the timing of this stuff. what's the word, doug? >> timing is key as we move through the overnight hours. good news is i think most of us get through just about all the evening, we go to bed and you wake up and it's all out of here for the most part. but doesn't mean these storms won't wake you in the middle of the night. take a look and show you where these are now. first off some rain around our area already in our western zones. back towards i-81, west of the blue ridge, nothing in the d.c. metro area. i'm not worried about the evening rush. if you have loved ones coming home, by back to the west along i-81 a different story here. take a look at what we're looking at to the south. numerous thunderstorm activity including one storm right here. this is a confirmed tornado in it. this one making its way to north carolina. they're under a tornado watch. for us

way overnight tonight. so ail lit bit more about this. what we're expecting tonight, storms overnight. breezy with sunshine tomorrow, cooler weather moves in, a big change over the next 24 do 48 hours. i'll have much more on this including the timing of those storms. i'll take you hour by hour in just a minute. >> all right, you got it, doug. in the meantime, developing now, news 4 has learned the triple shooting in ava park is a case of murder suicide. two teenagers are dead tonight, a third in the hospital. news 4's pat collins live in alexandria sorting out this complicated scenario. pat, what have you learned? >> reporter: leon, this is where it happened. this picnic table in this popular park. this is where they had this troubling shooting that left two teenagers dead and one seriously wounded. work crews have been on the scene here today sanitizing it. they even painted the concrete below to cover the stains. police say this is not gang-related, but what's the

was it romance, was it drugs, or was it something else? this is what we know so far. this is what the scene looked like last night at the all veterans park in alexandria. shot and killed, a 17-year-old teenage girl from alexandria. shot and wounded, a 15-year-old teenage boy from alexandria. dead, 19-year-old yerson nunez lopez. police say he's from maryland. they say he was the shooter. they say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. here now from captain ken fouch with the alexandria police department. he didn't talk about the motive, but he did say this. sometime last night all three of them met in that park near that picnic table.

officials are not saying when that suspected noose was discovered. it turns out a snapchat threat about school violence was not a credible threat, but it still caused quite a scare at eleanore roosevelt high school this morning. >> parents there kept their kids home. some saw police presence on campus. >> tracee wilkins is there with more on the panic with the cause. >> and what's next for the student behind the scare. >> reporter: surely there is a parent somewhere having a very tough conversation with their child about what they post on social media after that kid narrowly escaped some serious charges. this all started on snapchat where one student sends another student a picture and a text that reads, better not go to school on monday. it was seen as a threatening text that made its way throughout a snapchat circle. concerning some parents, the prince george's county school system and also the prince george's county police department. there was additional security

the prince george's county police ruled early in the afternoon this was a non-credible threat. turns out it was a picture of a bei bei gun. but because this was initially just a conversation between two kids, no charges for the student who initiated the picture and the post. that picture of a gun and then also that text reading, don't go to school tomorrow. prince george's county police are warning parents to have serious conversations with their children about being careful what they post on social media. in greenbelt, i'm tracee wilkins, news 4. >> police arrested a 16-year-old accused of assaulting a security guard at northwestern high school in hyattsville. this happened last week, but it surfaced in public records released to the news 4 i-team. police tell us the teenager was a student who had been suspended for ten days. when he returned to the school, that was considered trespassing because of that suspension. police say the teen hit the security officer who tried to get his off that campus. >> as republicans race to get an

done by the end of the year, president trump is promising there will be no changes to your 401k plan. the president made the announcement in a tweet today saying, quote, this has always been a great and popular middle class tax break that works, and it stays. he appeared to be responding to a recent report in "the new york times" that republican lawmakers were considering putting a limits on the amount you can save in your 401k retirement accounts. >> military veterans aren't the only ones who sometimes struggle getting work after service. their families can face obstacles as well. there is a special job summit in arlington sponsored by virginia senator tim kaine. they discussed ways to improve job opportunities especially for military spouses. >> and military spouses have the same challenges moving here and there, sometimes with professional credential in one state that doesn't immediately transfer to the next state. >> amazon, sprint and sam

some storms tonight? >> yeah, we have some storms coming in. it's been kind of quiet the last week or so. we need some rain, going to get some much that tonight. some of the storms moving in may be on the strong side. that's something we're watching out for right now. those storms moving in from the south where there is actually a tornado on the ground in parts of north carolina, that's not what we're going to see here, but we do have a chance for strong winds. take a look at the radar now show you dealing with. plenty of rain in the winchester area, portions of the shenandoah valley. i-81, that's where i expect it to be the rest of the afternoon. again nothing around d.c. i think your evening is going to be just fine. take a look back here towards the winchester area, just west of winchester, frederick county, virginia. back towards ward enz ville, west virginia, nothing too heavy in middletown but we'll see a few more come up. here's where the line is. look at this line. you can see this. wow, a big circulation. there is a

towards north carolina. you can see where the storms are heading, right to the north, back into virginia. would not be surprise to see a severe thunderstorm watch for portions . state of virginia, but i think our area is going to get out of this, mostly unscathed. however, i do expect to see some strong winds with this. so, let's time it out for you. 7:00 tonight, not much going 0 on. back to the west some showers. watch what happens by 11:00. we start to see the rain hornaceking in. the storms just back to our west. by around 2:00 a.m., starting to see them around the winchester area down towards fredericksburg. one thing you did notice, not a widespread area of storminess. this is not going to be a big deal of storms. we might see a couple that move through tonight, could wake you up overnight tonight around 1:00, 2:00 in the morning. think about that. this is what i'm expecting. storms at 11:00 to the west and 4:00 a.m. to the east. strong winds likely with any storms. doesn't mean everybody is going to get them, but strong winds likely. isolated damaging winds. again, we are going to talk about the rain. we need the rain. some locations, though, may not get muc a

others may get up to an inch depending on if you get one of those storms as they move on through. temperature wise today, we're in the mid 70s. 75 d.c. 77 fredericksburg, 68 back towards winchester. we are seeing some of that rain. temperatures tomorrow about where they are today, but then we'll start to see a much different pattern. 74 for a high, clearing skies, breezy early in the day. but mild. so, once again, we're going to be looking at a morning commute. that's going to be on the dry side. these storms will already be moving through. the only exception could be southern maryland. not a bad day. breezy early, breezy overnight tonight. then we look at the fall foliage. this is the brand new report here. it does show we have some high color into parts of the area, sky line drive, definitely a great drive to make. all week this week and next week, really starting to see some color finally in towards our region as well. now, the next couple of days, temperatures tomorrow in the 70s, but we're in the low 60s wednesday and thursday and thursday actually really cool. overnight low temperatures

>> announcer: you're watching news 4 at 4:00. real tragedy over the weekend. shock and sadness following the death of a d.c. couple in delaware. they were hit and killed on their bikes in dewey beach. >> that's right. news 4's darcy spencer is where the couples live. she joins us with reaction from those who knew them. darcy? >> reporter: well, they lived right here in this adams morgan neighborhood, but they also owned a home at the beach. they were at the beach in delaware this week when this tragedy happened. we want to show you a photo of this couple. jimmy walton shown here on the left and his husband greg chidick were

beach. they were stopped on their bikes. a man driving an suv had some sort of medical emergency, blacked out behind the wheel, and slammed into this couple. this news has been absolutely devastating for their family and for friends. jimmy was a graphic artist. grant was a government contractor who also served on the condo board here in the neighborhood. and they had just celebrated their one-year anniversary. how big of a loss is this would you say for the community? >> i think it's a huge loss. i mean, to the community and to their friends and family and just, you know, how sudden and tragic it has been to learn about it and to know what happened. >> just shocking. i mean, he just -- two terrific people. greg has been unbelievable neighbor. >> reporter: the driver who struck them was also seriously injured. at this point no charges have been filed. reporting live from northwest, darcy spencer, news 4. >> thank you,

believe speed was a factor in a motorcycle crash over the weekend. it happened overnight on arkansas avenue in northwest. and they say the driver, 23-year-old anderson flores, lost control of his bike around 2:30 this morning. and then hit a fire hydrant. he died at the scene. no one else was injured. three murders within days of each other have tampa, florida neighborhood literally on edge this afternoon. >> that's right. police have few clues and only a person of interest to work on right now. the killings happened within blocks of each other. and only days apart this month. police now are showing surveillance video to the community of a person of interest wearing a hoodie the night of that first kill. >> our officers have saturated this area and they are working 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. this is personal for them so we're not leaving it until we catch this guy. >> police will hold a community et

a d.c. man already in trouble with the law is facing new charges in maryland tonight. police say he tried to sexually assault a woman inside her home in camp springs. prince george's county police have just released this video of kari edwards, he's 32, he lives in southeast, he broke into the woman's home saturday. when officers arrived, they say he allegedly ran out of the house naked. he got away, but was caught nearby with clothes on. he is facing attempted murder and attempted rape charges. according to police documents, edwards was already in the high intensity supervision program in d.c. for another sex assault that happened last month. leon and pat, back to you. >> all right. a new report -- thank you, sc t scott. a new report on who pays more in bank fees. >> the survey finds the poor pays three times more than those who make more. susan hogan is working on ways to cut those fees. >> that's right.

while this report does show that the poorest of americans are dishing out more in bank fees, there are options out there. it will just take a little digging from all of us to find them. federal studies continue to show america's poorest people are paying the most in bank and/or credit union fees. the consumer financial protection bureau says, for example, just 9% of all account holders are responsible for nearly 80% of overdraft fees. >> it's very difficult, especially for low-income individuals to maintain bank accounts, especially if those accounts are charging them fees. >> reporter: amanda dick sons with bank rate.com whose just released survey with money.com also found nearly 40% of those who make under $3000 a year don't even have a cck account. and when they do, they pay extra. >> lower income individuals, they're paying more than three times as much as others in other income groups. >>

temperatures this evening, 73 degrees at 7:00, 70 by 9:00. around the mid 60s by 11:00. this is when we start to see some showers moving in. the line itself doesn't come in until a little bit later on. here's rain now. nothing around the d.c. metro area. the evening drive is going to be a-okay. nothing for the evening commute. we are tracking rain towards the winchester area, west of martinsburg. you see it right here along 522, gains borrow heading into portions of west virginia. that's the area ahead of what will be the line of storms and you can see that line right here. still a tornado on the ground in towards parts of north carolina. this system moving up our way, too, however it should relax a little bit. i think we'll see a little bit less in the way of severe weather than they're dealing with down there. timing is going to be different depending on where you are and that's why we have the four-zone forecast. amelia draper. a >> we'll be moving west t

zone, d.c. metro and finish in the eastern zone. doug was saying scattered showers out that way. we're going to see rain moving through. for the most part showers are out of areas like hagerstown, martinsburg, winchester, front royal and luray. by 3:00 a.m., sunshine for the morning commute, we heard further east into our western zone, this includes areas like frederick, leesburg, down through warren ton and culpepper area. now, for our western zone, storms best chance between 11:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. maybe isolated wind damage out there, but it will be dry for the morning commute there as well. as we head into our d.c. metro zone, we're including washington, bethesda, columbia, bowie and burke in our metro zone. best chance for storms will be about 1 to 2:00 a.m., dry though for the morning commute. in our eastern zone, southern maryland down through the northern neck and fredericksburg, doug, we could still see scattered showers till 8:00 a.m. that could slow the morning commute. for most of us the tuesday is looking dry. the front bs

she almost didn't make the marathon. >> that's right. we understand you got a really late start. you didn't register until nine days before the race. >> that's right. >> registration was closed. >> right. my coach had a 22-mile training run on the schedule for the weekend of the marine corps marathon. i wasn't supposed to run the marathon, but i didn't want to run by myself. i decided to run the training run. how am i going to register? i cause called the business office, i got fourth last year, they let me register. as soon as i registered i knew i was going to race it. >> you were talking to us during the package there, and you told us you ran the 800 in college. >> that's right. >> so, what made you think you could do this? >> well, i ran in college, 800 meters. i ran cross-country but i wasn't very good. took 7 years off, got married, had four kids. decided i missed running and i just started running half marathons and about three years ago, it just snowballed from there. >> and last year you came

fourth in the marine corps marathon. >> last year was my first. i came in fourth. i wanted to podium and i didn't do it. so i just, i thought i'm in shape, i have an opportunity. even though this wasn't the plan, i'm going to go for it. >> so, when did you know you had this one? when did you know, what was the moment, when did you know that you got this? >> right around the halfway mark, the two women that were with me kind of fell back and i was feeling good and i knew it was -- i thought that was going to be my day. >> you actually tried to make the olympic trials and missed that by seven seconds? >> my main motivation was to run under 2 hours 45 minutes and make the olympic trials. i had written on my hand where i needed to be at mile 22, 24 to do it. i knew i was going to be really close. i came up 7 seconds short. but i'm going to run a race, i'm running the california international marathon in december which was the original plan. i'm going for it. >> how do you rank this compared to making the olympic team? >> you know what, it's amazing. it's

true. i ran the marine corps marathon for the first time last year and i ran my slowest time ever but it was my favorite race. so, when i was out there it was so nice to run on my home turf and have the running community that i know cheering me on and to finish first was, was awesome. yeah. >> we actually have some photos of you and your children. we read you had a baby-sitter. they weren't at the race, your husband was out of town. no one expected you to do this. >> correct. i know. that was last fall. we got family photos. >> they must be pretty proud of you. >> they are. they're funny, every time i come home, mommy, did you win the race? yesterday i could tell them, yeah, i won the race. >> what's tougher, raising four kids or running 22 -- >> raising four kids. hands down. running is easy. >> you say you run to get your -- >> time to myself. otherwise don't count on it. >> all right. well, we're so proud of
