this is really upsetting, justin. >> reporter: montgomery county police do understand parents' outrage. they say this comes down to a matter of time. getting warrants and doing searches and other police work to build their case. this goes back to may 5th or so when a silver star gymnastics employees found a backpack and connected to wires and a key fob. the 54-year-old jonathan old dale did claim the bag and came back twice to get the key fob. police found instructions to a key fob camera. one mom tells us over the past few months, she felt -- she wishes that she and other parents had been better informed. >> serious, i'm angry, i wasn't told. i got an

and i was going to investigate further what was going on. i have three girls here under the age of 8. >> we can tell you police did a search of his home and found a computer with videos of girls in a restroom. that video is not believed to come from silver stars. he surrendered in october and was released on bond. >> you can see why so many parents are upset. thank you, justin. some families are waking up breathing a sigh of relief. firefighters evacuated multiple homes along first street after getting a lot of calls from a strong smell of gas in the area. officials tell news 4 they thought the gasoline was poured into the sewer. later they tweeted, it was probably associated with nearby construction. we now know the name of a man hit and killed by a pickup truck. james burns died last night. he was 79

crossing the street at larch avenue. the driver did -- oh, my -- >> i need an ambulance right here. >> take a look at this dramatic video showing the moments first responders found children trapped inside a school bus that was struck during the terror attack in new york. you can see the side of that bus badly damaged. police say suspect sayfullo saipov deliberately slammed into the bus after driving on to a bike path and running people down. emergency crews rescued two children and two staff members who were hurt. there have been several developments in the terror attack in new york in the last 24 hours. here's what we know right now. the suspect was inspired by isis. in fact, investigators believe he spent a year planning this attack. he wanted the horrific attack to

police say the suspect believed that the streets would be extra crowded and he rented a truck ahead of time to practice making turns. meanwhile, the fbi is questioning a second uzbek man. he was in contact with him in recent weeks. they want to know what he might know about this case. >> we're learning more about the people who lost their lives. eight people were killed, including a mother of two from belgium. also, five friends from argentina who were in new york city to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their high school graduation. a young man from new jersey. darren drake worked at a financial services company. he had just lost 100 pounds and was focused on staying healthy. in fact, he used his lunch break to go biking. >> he was making good money, every benefit

degree, starting object his second. in addition to the eight people died, 12 people were wounded. they're all recovering right now. the suspect did not plan on stopping in tribeca. he planned to carry out his deadly attack on to the brooklyn bridge. you can learn more about that in the nbc washington app. we're getting breaking news from the associated press. it is out with a new report showing russian hackers didn't only interfere in our presidential election. they also tried to spy on thousands of targets around the world. the a.p. revealed the digital hit list going back to 2015. included in that list, the e-mail accounts of former secretary of state john kerry, former secretary colin powell and other high ranking u.s. officials. today all eyes on a federal court here in d.c. where paul manafort and rick gates will be back in court for a status hearing. the former trump campaign chairman was indicted on 12

that breaking news at 6:30. we've just confirmed that two people have died in this house fire on foot street in capital heights. a number of first responders as the smoke is billowing from the home. >> this is just after martin luther king, jr. highway. the original call came in about 5:30 this morning. firefighters got into the home, they found the two people dead. justin finch is on his way to the scene. but we do have live pictures right now in chopper 4. >> brad freitas is in chopper 4. tell us more what's going on down there. >> we just

astonishingly clear image of what her attacker may look like. >> this is the image. the photograph on the left. megan mcgrath is live at the montgomery county police headquarters. with the significance of this new composite. megan? >> reporter: we've seen dna used in crime fighting before. dna analysis being used to come up with a suspect composite sketch, a detailed one. investigators are using this technique for the very first time with regard to an open case. now, take a look at the map here. this is where the rape occurred here. a woman was dragged from a bus stop in gaithersburg. that happened back on october 6th. now, this is the composite sketch of the suspect the police believe is responsible in this crime. a company called snapshot used dna collected from the crime scene and they were able to use

we have breaking news right now. a house fire in capitol heights has claimed the lives of two people. here's a live look from chopper 4. this is on foote street. >> chopper 4 over the scene now. you can see a number of first responders on the scene. the black smoke billowing from the home. brad fareitas up on chopper 4. it's near an elementary school. >> that's right. it's on foote street

us. we have a massive response from the fire department. we're told in a few moment, they're planning an update for us. not too far from the street. it's taped off. as brad mentioned. we've learned that two people were found inside of that home dead once this fire was extinguished. we're waiting to learn who they are, their ages and their genders. i can tell you right now this stretch of foote will be closed for some time as this fire investigation continues on here. we can tell you as well, there was a photo that we have. we want to show you of the flames. just how intense it was when the fire was at its height. in the past several minutes, the fire has been brought under control. the investigation now really just ramping up as they try to figure out why those two people were still inside as the flames erupted and took their lives. live in capitol heights. i'm justin finch. news 4. back to you. >> thank you, s
