they are expecting huge crowds this year as we head into the holidays. scott macfarlane and tracee wilkins are joining us this morning. and scott, soft targets can be the most difficult ones to protect. we have plenty of them here. what do we know that is taking place this week or would be? >> and it's not just in the district of columbia. on obviously we have suburban communities with enormous crowds for sporting events, transit centers, a major casino. a lot of places where a lot of people gather. we know in may the u.s. transportation security administration, same area that puts the airports, put out a memo to all police departments nationwide to beware of truck attacks. and truly going after pedestrian. we saw that manifest itself in new york city this week. we also know there is a lot of coordination. our area is blessed with dozens of police agencies who do talk to each ear and there are federal agencies with a footprint here. we also have the major transit systems. vre, mark rail and metro, we

operation center this week in landover and they nhave 7,000 cameras systems wide. thousands more than just a few years ago. so we at least very well surveilled. >> but we still wonder if it's enough. we were shown the national harbor emergency operations center. what happens there? >> 145 cameras looking everywhere around national harbor. and what the chief said and it's important to remember that not only are they paying attention to what is happening locally, but also things like what happened in nyo rk. they are communicating and listening to how that can impact our area and he called it looking for trends and paying attention to trends and seeing if there is anything that they need to do to change up their efforts here. but the other thing folks can feel comfortable about in the washington area, we have so many police departments, law enforcement officials who are not only in constant communication with one another, but practice with one another, practice how to respond in case of a terror attack in washington.

doors to seek a robust prison sentence, nearly a life prison sentence, without having to bring the children forward. feds talk about forensics, by talking about images and phones. they have experts up there, they need not bring children up there. we saw it in carraway's case. he got 75 years at the federal level which helped prevent victims from having to come forward in the courtroom. >> how is the school system dealing with this and where do we go from here? >> well, the charles county school system is still in the midst of investigating what has happened and having communication with parents. they had meetings at the beginning of the school year where multiple meetings parents could come in and ask questions, find out more about the investigation. i think that in all of these instances, you have families that feel like we could always use more information. there are a lot of questions wh about how was this allowed to happen. and you have a

will know what prince georges went through with the deonte carraway case. but for the kids, i have been in the room with them after the carraway case and i talked with a mother and her son on multiple occasions. and i watched take that child who even with therapy was obviously distressed, not really good with communication with his mother, had really been impacted of course by this tragedy. so long after the charges are done, we have kids who are living with this. and in this case 42 and more than a dozen who still have not been identified who are seen in video and officials don't know who these children are. >> scott, bell appears on the new charges on monday, correct? >> monday afternoon in greenbelt on the federal charges. he will enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, but he also has the 200 charges in charles county, so a long legal future ahead of him. >> tuesday is election day in virginia. and the

poll shows the race for governor tightening. northham's lead has narrowed to 49% of likely voters to gillespie's 44%. this is a very close race. tuesday is all about turnout. >> it reminds me of 2009 when it was a race the whole nation was watching almost as a barometer of how the national political landscape looks and out national landscape feels. and what we see is so many outside interests, so much outside money pouring into this race. it's almost being taken from the hands of virginians until voting day when they can actually have their say. >> and it's an off year election to more pressure on the candidates. >> and there is nowhere else to spend the money.only other state is new jersey and that cake is already big. it's not a competitive race. so everybody is watching virginia even far outside the

speeders beware, police have issued more than 3,000 tickets since the start of the crackdown on speeding along indian head highway. the crackdown followed a series of deadly accidents on route 210. it started at the beginning of september. 3,000 tickets is an awful lot. police clearly are not playing around here. >> we have several unique roadways in our area, sort of the nature of the washington, d.c. area, one of our distinctive characteristics. we have parkways, indian head highway, all these roads with a higher volume of traffic than they were supposed to have. traffic volume will lead to danger. and it's kind of hard to stop that. >> some of the cases cited were

115 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour speed zone. another driver speeding along with two children, small children in the car, one in the front seat. but not in a car seat. you have to wonder what people are thinking. >> it's almost like a circus. and this is what people who live along 210 have been complainin about for years. it's a straight and flat road and people speed. and what they have been crying for for years is that the prince george's police department would get more involved. and that's what they are doing. we have had too many people lose their lives on this road. aaa says it is the deadliest road in the dmv. so when you have that kind of an issue, you have to do something. and the hope is that this will make it a safer road for folks. >> yeah, the message is slow down. hang on to your cellphones. news 4 iteam involves phone snatchings are not only on the

taking your phones are getting more brazen in our region. scott, in several recent cases phones were snatched right out of people's hands. and i'll correct myself. cases are actually the physicality. >> the robbery of a phone, the thievery of a phone, the taking it from a pocket or purse, that is actually down because we now can brick or phones and disable them and so it makes a little less tempting. but those who want to steal it get physical now in part because you're carrying around $1,000 in your hand when you have a new iphone and you have the ear buds in, so you are kind of broadcasting to the world hey, i have a phone here and i'm not paying attention to you. the in tmetro system is concern about the release of the iphone x. they think that it will cause problems. and so people will be running after it, they don't just let it go and say good-bye, they chase after the criminal and that is when there is a real risk of

friend of mine would i don't know if he will be okay. but he described the car plowing through and that the table landed on top of both of them. he was on the ground. isaiah was on top of him and a table on top of them and he was unconscious. it speaks to the incredible impact of the vikehicle. so yes the family is making arrangements for their father to be laid to rest. police are still investigating. they can't begin to discuss charges until they are done. and i anytime are dealing with a car crash, it's an extensive investigation. the driver said my brakes weren't working and i was going 25 miles an hour when i went through the restaurant. so they will have to take a look at that car and see what was going on with it. >> what oftenhappens, these investigatio
