temperatures will start dropping after today. i'll show you that coming up. news 4 midday starts now. good morning, everyone. i'm molette green. >> i'm chris lawrence. if you're like us, you look at what happened in that xhufrp and thought las vegas, new york, now texas? you barely have time to process one attack before you're confronted with another. >> absolutely. >> we have new images of the man who opened fire on the rural church. the texas department of safety says this is devin kelley. >> investigators believe he showed up in armor and killed 26 parishioners in sutherland springs, texas. this morning we learned as many as half of the victims were children, about 20 others were hurt. now authorities are searching the church and kelley's home, working to piece together the evidence and learn a motive here. nbc's sara dolloff has the

>> reporter: in what was supposed to be a sanctuary, shots fired. >> in front of a church. in front of the church. >> reporter: during sunday services at first baptist church in sutherland springs, texas. 26 people were killed, between 12 to 14 were children. >> my husband actually went to the church to render aid, and e he's a strong man and he turned around and came back. he said i can't do it. >> law enforcement tells nbc news 26-year-old devin kelley dressed in black and wearing tactical gear opened fire with an assault-type rifle outside the church before continuing inside shooting at parishioners. >> he exited the church, a local resident grabbed his rifle and engaged that suspect. >> kelley ran and was later found dead inside his car although it's not clear yet if he took his own life or if he was taken down by one of the men who track him. >> he lost control of his own and hit the bar ditch. kelley, a former member of the air force was given a bad conduct discharge

for assaulting his wife and child. authorities say his in-laws have attended the church. >> they were not here yesterday to attend church, but they did come yesterday afternoon and spoke to investigators. >> reporter: overnight -- a vigil for those lost including the pastor's 14-year-old daughter annabelle pomeroy. the victims range in age from just 5 years old to 72. lives cut short in a place they felt safe. a smalltown church on a sunday morning. in sutherland springs, sarah dolloff, nbc news. president trump is attending meetings in japan right now, but his aides have been briefing him on the mass shooting. the president tweeted may god be with the people of sutherland springs, texas. he called the shooting a murderous attack and promised he will never leave the side of the victims' families. here's what pde

talkier county and showers approaching and gainesville, fairfax, restin, could be starting to see the signs of light rain and sprinkles for the most part, though. around the northeast we have a very gray, wet, weather pattern. after today we're looking at a colder wet weather pattern and you'll want the heavy jacket and the umbrella. i'll show you how cool we're talking coming up. >> all right. thank you, sheena. we're getting more information about a developing story that left one man injured and a police officer on paid leave. >> montgomery county police say one of their own opened fire. the officer-involved shooting happened in a parking lot of a busy shopping area in wheaton sunday night. news 4's justin finch is following the latest. >> reporter: and what a scene this must have been. many of the stores in this plaza were still open when all of this happened. a man in this parking lot calling police to say that an suv was ramming his car from behind and here on scene rig

about here, police did find a white suv almost right on the bumper of this man's toyota sedan here. you'll also see in the video the driver's side window of the suv almost totally blown out. this happened about 8:20 or so sunday night at the stoney mill square shopping plaza off of beers mill and randolph road. this man called police to say that his car was being rammed and when a officer did arrive shortly thereafter and police tell us what happened next. when he arrived just a few seconds later he got back on the radio and stated that there was one shot. so we're investigating. one of our officers discharging his weapon and striking the driver apparently of the white suv. >> the officer and the man who called police were not injured in this case. the man who was shot though was taken to the hospital in serious condition, police do want to

here to get a sense of what happened. they're also looking to the officer's body-worn camera to shed more light on what happened here when that officer arrived. as for the officer, he is now on leave. we are told that he's a ten-year veteran of the force. in wheaton, i'm justin finch. news 4. right now a teenage girl has gone missing again, just a month after she was abducted and then found. this is sanahi aguilar cruz and she's 16 years old. police said she left home in woodbridge saturday night and hasn't been seen since. if you happen to see her, please contact police immediately. he's accused of carrying out one of the most notorious murders in recent memory and he is back in court in d.c. darren wynn is taking part in a d.c. mansion murder. he accused

and he is scheduled to go on trial next year. there is a new parking system in the district and it may end up costing you more than you're used to. adam tus is here to explain the pricing plan and all i see are dollar signs in this story. what do you have for us? >> reporter: we all know how much it costs to park in parts of the city, but think about this $5.50 per hour at certain spaces. that's not every space, but it is going to happen. parking is often a challenge in the downtown core of the district. >> can't stand looking for parking. parking is pricey. >> reporter: it's about to get a whole lot pricier depending on when and where you parked. edot has changed rates in the penn quarter and chinatown sections of the city and at

there. >> yeah. this is the most information i think we've been able to gather about a possible motive here, the threatening text messages sent to his mother-in-law. we do know that this man was kicked out of the air force for an assault charge against his estranged wife and child and served time, as well, in a court-martial proceeding there, and we heard the public safety official as well rule out racial, religious motivation and pointing in and zeroing in on the domestic-related tie here. >> all of this is very preliminary and very early so i don't want to jump into any conclusion and it appears that's the road they're going down in the investigation. we'll keep an eye on that news conference and we want to get you up-to-date on other stories. paul manafort will remain under house arrest after a

here's president trump's former campaign manager and his business associate rick gates as they walked into court this morning. a judge just ruled that both men will stay on house arrest and will be tracked by gps devices until they offer up more bail money to assure their future appearances in court. they've been indicted on money laundering, conspiracy and other federal charges, all of this relating back to russia's meddling in the election and both men have pleaded not guilty and manafort will go on trial next may. it appears that senator rand paul will be recovering for months after the assault at his home in kentucky. a senior adviser says the attack more seriously than we thought. paul broke five ribs and is in considerable pain and has trouble getting around. paul's neighbor rene boucher tackled paul on friday. boucher is out on bail right now. think about all of the recent accusations that we've heard recently about sexual au

amazon has quietly started cutting prices by as much as 9% on items sold by third-party merchants on its site. the move could ratchet up the price with other retailers and potentially strain relations with some sellers. the wall street journal says previously amazon-controlled prices only on merchandises sold directly to consumers and now the items sold by other, the cost difference itself. prices remain competitive. and a warning for netflix customers. there's an e-mail that's trying to steal your credit card information. the bogus e-mails were detected late last week by the security firm in australia. they warn users that their account is about to be canceled unless they update their
