reaction from republicans today was swift and remarkably strong. blayne alexander is live on capitol hill. no one saw this coming, blayne. >> reporter: absolutely not, pat, leon. what is most notable about this, we didn't see any of that side stepping or question dodging we usually see when lawmakers want to avoid a controversial topic. lawmakers, senate republicans did not waste any time speaking out against this and pretty strong terms. in fact, a lot of them said if these are true, roy moore should absolutely and immediately step aside. perhaps most notable majority leader mitch mcconnell repeating that. we also heard today from senator john mccain who said regardless if the allegations are true or not, moore should step aside anyway. he said allegations are just that disturbing. now, this of course is hearkening back to a report first published by the washington post. moore's camp was very quick to come out with a statement pushing back against this strongly calling this a smear campaign. he said it was a be

out after a homeless veteran was arrested for their daughter's murder. >> new details emerge about the charges of the man kidnapping her. >> erika gonzalez is live in the newsroom. she has the families' words this afternoon. ya erika. >> it is painful to hear them talk about the man who alleged ali murdered their daughter. they are thankful for the authorities and community support, they still have a lot of questions about what happened to their daughter. 45-year-old eric brown, a homeless retired navy veteran has been charged with her kidnapping and murder. authorities say they have video evidence, phone history and dna linking brown to the crime. ashanti billie went missing in september from the joint base where she worked. her body was found ten days later in north carolina. her father says it absolutely tears him apart to know he could not be there when she needed him most.

and ordered her to get out. confrontation on surveillance video you will see only on news4. this type of incident has actually been happening across the country. mark segraves is here now to explain. mark. >> reporter: yeah, pat, the man and woman wearing green military jackets said they were moorish nationalists and they were claiming the land because their ancestors were the original inhabitants. >> reporter: the $3 million home was for sale and the owners were not living in it. they came to the house and the alarm went off. that's when the homeowner was confronted. >> this is our ancestor's place. >> reporter: on the video, you can hear the couple repeatedly saying the land is theirs and telling the homeowner to get out. the homeowner calls police who came and diffused the situation, but the couple can be heard raising their voices and ultimately the man appears to try and push his way through e

>> all right, doug. >> big political news out of virginia, first at 4:00, another house republican said he's not seeking reelection. >> that's right. representative bob good latch wants to spend time with his family. he's the chairman of the house committee. he represents parts of virginia from shenandoah valley, western part of the commonwealth. his retirement, one of nearly 40 the gop is facing now. meet the press moderator chuck todd joins us in the studio to talk about this. is this all about tuesday? it's all about what happened the other day? >> some of this is about tuesday, some of this is about -- look, good latch was getting elected, this is a pretty conservative district out there. that said, he's committee chairman. right now if you extrapolate those virginia results, it's not just virginia. it's nationwide because you look -- you have to make the democrats assuming they can keep this turnout, keep this intensity of interest in the election going with the democratic base, the likelihood the democrats win

50/50. and frankly, if you look at the last nine months, it only seems to be in the same direction if you're a republican, it seems like the environment only gets worse every day. so, you're kind of like, what if you win and you're in the minority, is it really worth it? some of these, there's two types of potential retire ease. guys like good lat, term limit, thinks they won't be back in control. he's been in control for a long time. or the guys that are really worried about winning and losing. i'll be curious. wouldn't surprise me if she decided to stay, challenge tim mccain. both races are tough. is it better to go up or out. you may see some folks -- i'm not saying -- i know some people would like to see her run. of course stewart will be tough for her to beat in the primary. maybe she doesn't want to get involved in something like that. but you'll see other lawmakers in tough districts think on the republican side making those decisions as well. >> you have a big anniversary. >> we do. >> tell us about the meet the press film festiv

lead. so, let's take a look. the fidget wild premium spinner brass and metal, both made by bull's-eye toys, according to lab results they contained as much as 330 times the federal legal limit for lead in children's products. now, this is, according to the u.s. public interest research group that did the testing. even though the products are labeled for ages 14 plus, on these specific products were labeled 14 plus, target is marketing these fidget spinners in the toy aisle and online. although the cpsd won't comment specifically on why target marketed these two ages 6 and older, fidget spinners labeled 12 and under must meet strict federal rules. target now as a result of all of this revised its website so that the manufacturer's recommendation is now 14 and older. target earlier defended its action by claiming fidget

children's products and are not subject to lead standards. the distributor of the fidget spinners tells us its products are tested and comply with cpsc safety standards. and federal law also limits the amount of lead in children's products to 100 parts per million. for a point of reference for you, the lab test on the brass fidget spinner showed in upwards of 33,000 parts per million of lead. kind of crazy. yeah. significant. again, the manufacturer said on the label 14 plus. but the placement of the products in target were in the children's section and that's where they had the problem. >> so if fidget spinners are on your kids wish list, you're suggesting something else. >> definitely with these that were just tested for sure. kids and adults, we all love gift cards. a survey found 41% of those asked would rather a gift card than a gift. in the interest of helping you find the best gift card, wallet hub compared 50 of the most

>> thank you. all week we've been helping you get ready for winter. >> that's right. storm team 4 chief meteorologist doug kammerer has a report. we've been waiting for this. susan hogan shared her tips for keeping your house cozy without overpaying. >> tuesday meteorologist amelia draper showed us ways to prepare the garden. she also shared what you can do now to have beautiful flowers in the spring. >> then susan was back upon wednesday with the four things you can do now to winterize your car. you can find the tips in the nbc washington app. search ready for winter when you get there. so, now let's get to doug now and get the latest on the winter weather outlook. >> so, doug, tell us what you've been looking at as you put your forecast together. >> there are a lot of factors, guys, that go into making a winter forecast. the number one thing, the very first thing i look at is which phase we are in as far as el nino is concerned. also known

account lanina. are we in warmer than average or cooler than average. both play a huge role not just in our weather but weather around the world. lanina which we are in now, provides the jet stream further to our north. meaning a little less snow fall in our area and warmer temperatures during the winter. that is one factor. another big factor, this is the factor we've been looking at the last dozen years 0 so, is siberia. we go all the way over to russia and siberia to see what we may be getting later this winter. the reason, it's all about siberian snow cover. snow cover in the month of october, how much snow is in siberia, what is the extent of that snow, how fast does it ramp up. this year that snow cover is once again above average and normally with above average snow fall that allows cold air to come down from

and right down into our region. so, if you're hoping for snow, this is something you want to see happen. so, those are two of the many factors that i look at for that winter forecast. i'm leaning one way or the other here. coming up at 5:00, we're going to have much more on this. and i'm going to take you all the way through all of this coming up at 6:00. i know the big question. how much snow are we going to get? as i said, a lot more than last year. let's take a look and show you weather wise what we're doing today. 46 towards martinsburg even with the cloud cover. we got into the mid 50s. we have seen areas of drizzle. that is something i've been watching. it's definitely cooler to the west than it is to the east. temperatures tomorrow a much different story. a little bit in the way of some drizzle, not showing up on radar here. take a look at the bus stop. 39 degrees at the bus stop. get the coat, the gloves and the hat. because the wind chill here at the bus stop will be about 25 degrees. 25. it will feel close to 30 degrees colder t

by recess 42, the wind is going to be a major factor and it's just plain individual i hfrigid you're picking the kids up. it stays cold on saturday. we're calling tomorrow a weather alert day because of the cold. 42 on saturday, wind chill early in the morning. take a look at the low temperatures. we're going 26 in the city. 21 -- this is not wind chill, this is the actual temperature. 21 gaithersburg, 19 in winchester, and take a look at next week. we get a little bit better at least we're back into the mid 50s here. even the upper 50s by late next week and a chance of showers. no real big storms here but something we are watching. there is another potential arctic outbreak late next weekend, but now we are tracking the winter weather coming in tonight, tomorrow and saturday. >> we need to dig out everything we have. >> dig it all out. i think you'll need it this winter. snow shovels were not needed much last year. you're going to need them this year. >> i have vegetable oil to spray on them. >> true. >>
