frances rivera. a shocking report is sending tremors throughout the state of alabama and washington with just a little over 30 days before voters in alabama choose their next senator. after the washington post released an explosive expose, republican candidate roy moore accused of fondling an under aged girl. many of moore's fellow republicans, even some who publicly endorsed him are calling him to step aside if the claim against him is true that he had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old when he was 32. and now moore is firing back. nbc's ann thompson has the story. >> i believe in the second amendment. >> reporter: roy moore, the combative gop senate candidate and conservative christian, the target of sexual misconduct allegations. the former judge accused of the inappropriate sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl almost 40 years ago. and dating other teenagers 18 and younger when he was in his 30s. the age of consent in alabama was

allegations are completely false, his would-be senate colleagues offer little support. >> if that's true, i don't believe there would be anyplace for him in the u.s. senate. >> if these allegations are true, roy moore should step aside for all of the obvious reasons. >> reporter: the most serious claims come from lee corfman in a report from the washington post. when she was 14 she says moore then an assistant district attorney drove her to his house in the woods. she claims he kissed her on the first visit. the second time she says he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. she says he touched her and guided her hand to touch him. i wanted it over with, i wanted out, she tells the post. corfma in, says she asked moore to take her home, and he did. a cautious response from the white house. >> we need to listen to both sides, but at the same time that hypothetical would be disqualifying for anyone in public office. >> reporter: with an 11-point lead in the senat

campaign calls the story garbage and the very definition of fake news and a desperate political attack. pointing out the paper endorsed moore's opponent. officials say it's too late to take his name off the ballot for next month's special election, even if moore steps down. but moore has never shied away from a fight. most notably removed from the bench for refusing to take down a monument of the ten commandments. now fighting for his place in a critical contest that could impact the republican senate majority. ann thompson, nbc news. >> just before arriving in vietnam, white house press secretary sarah huckabee sanders told reporters the president believes if the allegations against moore are true, he will do the right thing and step aside. the more controversy unfolded as the u.s. senate passed a measure requiring sexual harassment training for senators, staff and interns. the decision was unanimous. >> president trump is now on the fourth leg of his 12-day trip to asia. landing in vietnam earlier this morning, this time without the

geographic location and economy. president trump also talking about north korea with his opportunity to meet many of his counter parts here, and of course the north korean threat is a huge issue in this part of the world. so, president trump again talking about the inability for these nations who are gathered here to permit north korea to continue with its nuclear ambitions. one headline we learned today from sarah huckabee sanders, the president's spokesperson who on air force one told reporters, there is not a scheduled meeting between president trump and russia's vladimir putin who is also attending the apec conference. that was a bit of a surprise because the kremlin had foreshadowed a visit. president trump himself had said he would be open to speaking with putin, and secretary of state rex tillerson said without substantive issues for them to discuss, it did not make sense to schedule a formal meeting. but sarah sanders also saying president trump and vladimir putin are likely to be in some of the same sessions during this summit and could likely encounter each other in a more

informal way. president trump also making note here of the history of the vietnam war by acknowledging veterans of the vietnam generation himself, but did not serve. philip, dara? >> kelly o'donnell live in the city of danang for us. kelly, thank you. >> to washington now where progress on capitol hill could dramatically change your taxes for years to come after a key committee in the house advanced republicans tax reform bill, moving the gop a step closer to its goal of overhauling the american tax system. >> the bill is passed, the committee is adjourned. >> getting their bill to the next hurdle with a party line vote, gop lawmakers broke out in applause the proposal made its way to the house floor. and while that tack place on one side of the capital, on the other, a brand-new plan was being introduced to revamp the tax code and give republicans a much needed legislative win. for more we go to nbc's edward lawrence in washington this morning. edward, what is in the new bill and how will it impact people at

yeah, the senate and house tax bills are a little different and that could cause some problems. one thing is sure, right now republicans know they need to pass tax reform and soon with a almost total victory for democrats last tuesday in the elections. that created that sense of urgency. now let's go through some of the differences in the house and senate tax bill. in the senate tax plan, a reform plan, they double the standard deduction. the senate plan also creates seven tax brackets, not the four in the house version. it also keeps the mortgage deduction for homes up to $1 million. the house version allows deduction only for the first $500,000 of a mortgage. finally, it fully eliminates deductions for state and local taxes, something new york and california lawmakers are already having a problem with. >> 30 years, americans are ready for tax reform again, get growing again like we know this code will do, to

and opportunities, and significant tax relief for the middle class. >> reporter: now, the white house says that they would like to have a tax plan on the president's desk by thanksgiving. now, if the house passes their version and if the senate passes their version, it goes to committee to merge the two. thanksgiving would be a very tight deadline. dara, philip? >> edward, thank you so much for that. >> over 600,000 people have signed up for a plan on obamacare's federal exchange during the first four days of open enrollment. it's a strong start for president obama's signature law with the 600,000 sign ups showing a significant jump from the same period during last year's enrollment. that's despite president trump's repeated claims that obamacare is, quote, dead, finished, and imploding. experts caution, however, that the enrollment period is significantly shorter this year giving customers just 45 days to sign up. that's down from the three months that the public had to sign up during obama's presidency. >> and for the latest now on that arctic blast gripping of the nation we turno

silent as he entered the courthouse, rene boucher pleading not guilty to assault against kentucky senator rand paul. now a new dispute over what prompted the dispute. inside this gated bowling green community. the men both doctors have lived next door to each other for 17 years, separated by grass, but no fence. a neighbor says paul called her immediately after being tackled from behind friday while mowing the lawn and said it was over landscaping. >> when he got up, rene was just screaming something about i've been trying to sell my house for ten years, and you know, your trees are in the way. >> reporter: rene boucher's attorney backs that up. >> so this really is about a messy yard? he a messy yard. >> reporter: but senator paul has retweeted two articles calling that fake news and in a statement says, as to reports of a long-standing dispute
