today, look at that. back into the 30s with windchills into the 20s before the afternoon is done. checking the high school and college and football forecasts coming up. thank you, chuck. we have breaking news in rockville. two people were hurt in a stabbing near the town center. happened around 10:00 last night when news 4 crews arrived on the scene. a large number of police. officers say a suspect in the stabbing was inside that house having a gun. eventually that person surrendered to police. one of the people hurt was trying to break up an argument between the suspect and the victim. keep an eye on the nbc washington app for updates on this developing story. also developing, police are looking for a car believed to be in a deadly hit and run in the white oak area of silver spring. two drivers hit the woman just after 6:30 at columbia pike and hillwood drive.

the woman was crossing the street when she was hit. police say since it's getting darker earlier, everyone needs to pay more attention on the roads. >> don't drive distracted. look out for the pedestrians when it's cold and wet. realizing they may make an error. we have to work together to prevent crashes like this from occurring. >> police don't have a description of the vehicle. they're asking anyone who may have seen the accident to give them a call. d.c. police are going through a video hoping it holds clues as to who shot a teenager as he walked home from school. the high school student is in critical condition. police say there was an argument between the teenager and two men before that shooting. two men got away from a black car. the area was full of people. they're hoping witnesses come forward.

is in vietnam where he just wrapped up a veterans event. he signed a proclamation saluting the veterans in the vietnam war. before that he spoke at a gathering of ceos. he delivered what appeared to be a rebuke to china on trade issues. mr. trump won't allow the u.s. to be, quote, taken advantage of anymore when it comes to trade. he also pledged to always put america first. new this morning, the white house is weighing in on a report that alleges alabama republican senate candidate judge roy moore forced a 14-year-old girl into a sexual encounter when he was 32. this was first reported by the "washington post." the white house believes, "if these allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside." the judge is now 70 years old and denies the accusations. there are accusations of sexual misconduct centere

income vets don't need to rely on public transportation for many of their appointments. the district has launched a pilot program where vets who learn less than $30,000 a year can get free cab rides to doctor appointments, school or work. white tested out the new service with mayor bowser by his side. >> we know that housing and transportation are tops on their list of things they need to get back from the community and especially for retired veterans that find it hard to get around. >> when i go to out patient at the v.a. hospital, that would help me enormously, as well as when i come down to work. >> the mayor was also on hand to launch a new partnership with we work and bunker lab that will provide free work space for veterans who own their own business. joe nguyen helps others

tying new record low temperatures tomorrow morning. it's going to be way colder. right now, it's still not bad outside. 45 degrees now. again, there's real issue with the day. that's as warm as it's going to be. still a wind out of the south for now. the front itself should be going through just about the time the sun is coming up this morning. after that, the wind will really pick up. it will be a very blustery and cold afternoon. the cold air is lagging behind a little bit. it will get here, though. don't you worry. this cold front has been well advertised in the computer models the last couple of days. we have high confidence that will be colder when you come home from work and school on the way out the door. mostly in the 30s and 40s to start your day now. planning out the next 12 hours, temperatures by 7:00, 8:00 in the morning will have dropped mostly into the 30s and then hover in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees for most of the afternoon. now, by tomorrow morning

all week long our changing mind series, what causes teens to feel anxious and depressed. some of the ways -- just this week, we learned that two of the districts are making mental health for kids a priority. high rates of unemployment and poverty and crime rate, the stressors kids face often come down to a matter of

suffering a lot. the pressures around achieving academically and of addressing all the -- we have kids who are depressed and concerns about their own safety going to and from school. >> she's partnering with a family foundation to help identify needs at the schools and it will develop the right mental health program for each school. the emphasis will also be on prevention. the project will be starting at the elementary school level and expanding from there. there's also a push to get more lower income students to attend college in virginia. next monday and friday, all public universities and colleges will hold virginia college application week. 66 high schools will participate. half of those receive free or
