questions about how many vehicles were involved in this accident and whether everyone stayed on the scene. >> to run. >> reporter: he was waiting along the pike for his family when he saw the woman get hit. a van stopped but he said another car kept driving. police are still looking for additional witnesses. they are trying to figure out how many cars may have been involved. it was just after 6:30 thursday night, police believe the woman was trying to cross the street near hillwood drive. this stretch of columbia pike is lined with shopping centers and office buildings. there are sidewalks, but no crosswalk or light at the intersection. joe crosses here every day and says it's dangerous. >> i worry about my daughter crossing. it needs a light here. and i hope

on this veterans day a local medal of honor recipient is opening up about the day a suicide bomber killed four men and nearly killed him in afghanistan. >> grow berg grew up in montgomery county and graduated from university of maryland. he wrote a bock and sat down with news4 darren to explain how he over came pain and grieve to honor his brothers. >> when i woke up a couple of minutes later about 20 feet away was my foot basically bleeding every where. and

life changed. >> retired captain will plainty tell you that talking about august 8, 2012 is hard. it was months into his second tour in afghanistan, this time he was in charge of a protective detail for an army colonel. >> i put all of them together, walking backwards, yelled at him, screamed at him, hit him and realized he had a suicide vest on. i threw him as far away from him as i could as quickly as possible. that's the only thing i could do to protect my teammates. >> reporter: in his new book 8 seconds of courage, he says that in heartbreaking detail. four men he grew to respect and love died when that suicide vest detonated. >> when we realized we could tell the stories of those incredible individuals and all others service members that idea
