>> we have got live breaking news as we begin this afternoon. chopper 4 flying live over reported plane crash in anne arundel county. what you're looking at here is route 50, and 57 in annapolis. >> it is one of the big stories we are working on this afternoon. first the weather alert. >> first the airplane crash. erika gonzalez has that from the live desk in the newsroom, erika. >> these pictures are coming from chopper 4, close to 97 and route 50. a number of fire fighters there on the scene. you can see there's been a small plane crash and fire fighters working what we believe to be a small fuel leak there. but we do know that there is one adult and two children that are being looked at by medics there on the scene. apparently this plane was trying to get to lee airport, which is not that far away and something happened. we do not have details now surrounding why this plane went down. again, this is in anne arundel county, a small plane crash, one adult and two children

understand being looked at by medics there on the scene. from the live desk i'm erika gonzalez. >> cold and getting colder. we are in weather alert mode this afternoon tracking a temperature dive. >> that's right. the question now is how close are we going to be to coming to a record this weekend? and standing here in the storm center with doug. looks like winter decided to come to town for the weekend. what's this look like now? >> i'm all about setting records, but cold records maybe not the ones we want to set. record low 29 degrees in the city. we may come close to that. we may be a degree or two shy, but we're going to get close for sure. some areas may be in the upper teens to low 20s. out there right now we're at 41 degrees. the tempt toerature has been dropping all afternoon. the feel like temperature, 31 in d.c., 29 in gaithersburg, 25 is the way it feels in winchester. so, you know you're in for one chilly friday night if you're going to be out and about on

meanwhile fall out has been swift. his upcoming film, i love you daddy, will not be released. and he's been edited out of the hbo benefit night of too many stars. back to you guys in the studio. >> all right, erika. now to the bombshell allegations that have shaken up the alabama senate race. an alabama woman accuses candidate roy moore of initiating a sexual account encounter with her when she was just 14, he was 32. blayne alexander is tracking reaction to this on capitol hill. blayne? >> reporter: yeah, pat, rather coincidentally perhaps, these allegations became public on the same day that the senate voted unanimously for mandatory sexual harassment training. now a number of lawmakers, republican lawmakers, even some who had previously endorsed moore, are trying to keep their distance. >> today allegations against republican senate candidate from alabama, roy moore, rocking

moore initiated sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl years ago when he was 32. three other women say he also pursued them around the same time when they were in their teens. moore, who has built a political career on christian values, calling the allegations completely false, adding, this garbage is the very definition of fake news and intentional defamation. nbc news has not independently confirmed the account, and the accuser never filed a police report or a civil suit. today top republicans quickly backing away from the candidate. >> unless he can prove his innocence, the burden is now on him within the next day or so, i believe he has to step step do. >> reporter: more than a dozen gop senators joining that call. the white house addling allegations alone should not ruin a person's life. >> however, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside. >> reporter: but the decision

people of alabama. >> i don't think it's true. people that are against him are really against him. and i don't think they'll stop at anything to try to keep him out. >> reporter: and conservative breitbart news published a story ahead of the post in which moore slammed the allegations as a smear campaign. now, moore is refusing to drop out of the race and his name is already on the ballot. and alabama officials say even if he does decide to leave the race, it's too late to remove his name. blayne alexander, nbc news, washington. >> a mother who says that her son fell prey to a sexual predator at school has a warning. she wants charles county schools to keep their kids safe after school. charles bell was accused of dozens of sex crimes against kids. bell was hiv positive at the time. the victim's mother tells news4's darcy spencer if the school doesn't make changes, she'll sue.

>> reporter: carlos bell was an instructional aide here in theuthe waldorf area of charles county. he is facing charges of sexual abuse. a parent says her son was one of the victims. that mom did not want to be identified and asked we distort her voice, but she wanted to get a message out, that there needs to be reform to prevent this from ever happening again. her attorneys drafted a letter that will be sent to charles county public schools demanding reforms when it comes to background checks and they want the system to conduct training on how to spot predatory behavior. they are asking for $1 million in compensation. >> it is with grief that i stand by my child's side through this horrific series of events. however, through my mourning, i would more so like to bring awareness. >> school systems in maryland and across the nation need to understand that the only way

happen is when good people stand by and do nothing. >> reporter: so far, bell has pleaded not guilty to the charges. we reached out to charles county public schools about this letter. they say they haven't received it yet, so, it's too soon to comment. in waldorf, darcy spencer, news4. >> i'm erika gonzalez back here at the live desk. we continue to update you on the developing situation happening in anne arundel county where a small plane has crashed. on the phone with us now, we now have lieutenant eric corn meyer, of the anne arundel county fire department who is there on the scene. lieutenant, are you with us? >> yes, that's correct. >> thank you so much for your time, sir. we appreciate it. first and foremost, we understand there was one adult and two children involved in this. can you tell us how they are doing right now? he a yes, that's correct. there was one adult and two children. they are currently being evaluated by our paramedics and they are still on location. it does not appear to be that there are any injuries at is

time. the pilot was able to bring the plane to a rough landing. they working on the small fuel leak and further information with regards to where the plane was going and what happened will be handled by maryland state police. >> okay, thank you, sir. is that what we're seeing there, then, the crews that are there on the ground, by what we see, are pieces of that plane, but they are looking at or addressing a small fuel leak, is that correct? >> yes, that is correct. >> is there any cause for concern for people that are there in the area? >> no, at this time there is a minor amount of fuel on it and the containment of that fuel is what our major concern is. there is no fire danger at this time. >> okay. lieutenant corn meyer, can you tell us the age of the children or the adult, the pilot that was involved in this? >> at this time i don't have that information. >> okay. but their injuries, you do not believe them to be serious? >> correct. at this time we are rely

we continue to follow the breaking news in anne arundel county. we started the hour with chopper 4 flying live over the site of a scene of a plane crash at route 50 and route 97. this is just outside of annapolis. and we are told that one adult and two children were inside this plane, but they actually escaped it relatively unharmed. officials calling it now a rough landing, a little bit of a fuel spill they are trying to clean up on the highway. but they say there is no threat

else on the ground there. we'll stay on top of the story and bring you an update shortly. >> back here at the live desk we have some wild video to show you of a police chase in oklahoma city that involves everything but the kitchen sink. apparently the pickup truck was stolen. the driver then took police on a more than three-hour ride through the city and eventually open field. it was like a scene out of the dukes of hazard. the guy was flying through the area. there was a collision at one point, the truck driving in reverse, into a pond and the guy running after that. eventually they tasered him and took him into custody. somebody is in a lot of trouble tonight. back over to you guys in the studio. >> that was pretty wild. >> crazy. >> he was pretty determine. >> now, that's not what you want to call holiday travel. that's a trip, but not holiday travel. let's talk about that right now because holiday travel season is right around the corner heading our way. we want to help make it a little easier for parents out there. >> consumer reporter susag

degrees below average. temperature should be in the 60s, that's the average. nothing near that at all now. when we get cold fronts like this, this strong that come out of the north, they clear us out, the atmosphere is so clue, the blue is so blue, it really does make for a beautiful sky. but you also know what's on the cold side. current temperature 41 degrees, winds out of the northwest 23 miles per hour. as we move on through, 23 mile an hour winds, that's brutal. current temperatures now, 37 in gaithersburg. these are the temperatures not the wind chills. 41 d.c., 34 in winchester, 34 in culpepper. when you add in that wind you get the wind chill and that's the feels like temperature. feels like 29 in gaithersburg, 25 in winchester, 31 in d.c. and the temperatures are only going to go down, cold enough, though, for a freeze warning tonight. freeze warning tonight right on through tomorrow, everybody here in the purple, that is because temperatures will get not just below freezing. i think most of us get into the 20s. even in the city. the record low tonight is

very close to that. now, as i've mentioned back towards i-81, you're not in the a warning but you've seen your freeze so you're not going to see any more warnings. after tonight we probably won't see any more even in the d.c. metro area because the growing season will end but a very cold night for sure no matter what you're doing. make sure you bundle up. amelia, meteorologist amelia, she's outside right now. she's all bundled up. >> i am freezing out here. no, it's actually not that bad. but when the wind is blowing, doug, you really feel the chill. i am feeling, though, you'd be sending me outside today so i brought my big puffy coat and pyeongchang mittens keeping me nice and warm. that's what you need if you're heading out tonight. we're going to continue to see the temperatures tumble. take a look at the futures feels like. first friday night light football. 7:00 p.m., it feels like temperature right around 25 degrees. 30, though, on the thermometer. winds do die down tonight but n

back here at the live desk with an update for you on the small plane crash in anne arundel county, want to get you to the live pictures courtesy of chopper 4 there now on the scene. you can see two very small children and one adult. we're not sure if these are in fact the people that are involved, but we had heard from authorities that there was, in fact, one adult and two children involved in this small plane crash, and that they were being looked at by medics. it appears as though everybody that is there on the scene is doing okay. we understand that fire fighters were checking out a small fuel leak. this is happening near 97 southbound near route 50 eastbound towards the bay bridge. we were hearing from people that were driving in

said they saw this plane kind of zigzagging very close and then it just started to come down. and this woman sent us a tweet and said that all she could do was scream and pray and try to move out of the way. but we are hearing from authorities and it appears everybody is doing okay. back to you guys in the studio, pat and leon. >> all right, erika. >> thank you, erika. >> so good to report that kind of an ending to a plane crash. >> all right. now our temperatures are crashing. >> yeah. >> from a couple of days ago, that's for sure. >> doug kammerer is in the storm center. so, doug, you're tracking this huge drop. how low is the mercury going to go, how many records are we going to break tonight? >> it could be down to about 23 degrees or 26 degrees in the city tonight. that's actually a record low temperature. that's what we're going to be watching just to see how cold it is. it's not just the cold, it's also the wind. when you factor in the wind, you get a wind chill of 31 d.c., 26 in winchester. that's the way it is right now. take a look at where we're going to be as we move on through the

if you're heading out tonight, you have a football game, dinner plans, notice by 9:00, the wind chill in some areas in the teens, 27 in leesburg, this is an arctic air mass come tlug here. by skaaturday morning waking upo numbers like this. not a lot of wind tomorrow. five to ten miles an hour gives us a good wind chill. 19 am martinsburg. here's the deal. tomorrow the winds really die down and i expect these to be the high temperatures tomorrow. the wind no longer a factor so these aren't just the feels like temperatures. these may be the actual temperatures. 42 d.c., 38 leesburg, 40 in manassas. so a very cold night tonight. one cold day and then we get to sunday. we start to see temperatures moderate just a little bit as we head to next week. couple of storm chances we'll go over with you and take you on the four zone forecast. that coming up in just a minute. >> all right, you got it, doug. first at 4:00 now, news4 has learned fairfax county schools are finalizing plans for an appearance and speech by transgender activist gavin grim.

the teen was the center of a federal court case of transgender in bathrooms in public schools. he will be speaking at west potomac high in alexandria on december 8. there has been no decision whether grim will address the entire school or just a class there. a debate over whether grim should be allowed to speak to the entire school is lighting up social media today under the hashtag frsh free gavin fcps. >> if you have sleep' any nia, it may boost your risk of developing alzheimer's down the road. a new study linked the sleep disorder to an increase in amaloid plak in the brain which is a hallmark of alzheimer's disease. the more serious the sleep apnea the more plak accumulated. people between the age of 55 and 90 did not have dementia, those who suffered from more severe sleep apnea had more

suburbs will stay in the 40s. it is going to be a cold week. look at this, right now a very nice shot as the sun is going down. i love when we get these pink hues on the monuments in the buildings downtown. it is going to be a cold night, 41 degrees. we have sunshine now, but the sun going down in the next couple minutes. 38 by 7:00, 32 by 11:00, and once again, that's just the temperature, not the wind chill. the current wind chill sitting at 31 degrees, d.c., 29 in gaithersburg, 29 in manassas, 29 as well as in leesburg, 24 in winchester. as we go through this, tonight is going to be so cold we have a freeze warning everywhere. it includes everybody. baltimore, d.c., over towards fredericksburg and to the east. even though you're not in it back to the west, it means you've already had your freeze. the rest of us haven't had it, that's why we're under a freeze warning tonight. a very cold weekend as well. if you're heading out to the bizarre in rockville out at the church out there, 11:00 to 3:00 tomorrow, make sure you dress in layers.

forecast. we go to amelia. >> it's going to feel like temperatures in the teens and 20s. i'm going to start you off tonight in the d.c. metro zone. this includes washington, prince george's county montgomery county, out towards fairfax as well. this is what you can expect, the weekend in the metro zone for peak fall colors with the temperatures tonight, a lot of the leaves are going to come off the trees over the next few days. tomorrow morning we're talking about teens and low 20s. that's in washington as well. as we head out to our western zones, frederick county, down through fauquier county, this is what it feels like as you step out the door on saturday, feeling like 16 in frederick, 18 in manassas, 17 in culpepper. i said this earlier on facebook. it is a hot coco kind of night on into tomorrow morning. our western zone again, it is just frigid out there. as we head to the mountains, even colder out there. about 15 in hagerstown, 14 in cumberland. warmer, though, on sunday. a little bit of relief e

>> major questions about whether a local school district dropped the ball, possibly putting children at risk. >> the school fired a teacher suspected of sexually abusing a girl, but an investigation by the news4 i-team reveals that it's what they did not do next that's raised some concerns. here's investigative reporter scott macfarlane. >> did the florida school know about your history in d.c.? >> reporter: howard coleman is headed to prison. question is should he have been sent there much sooner? for ten years coleman worked as a social studies in capital city public charter school. in march 2015 his career there ended. in an instant because this history teacher had a history. capital city public charter fired coleman after learning he was suspected of sexually abusing a former student of a different school for years. though coleman lost his job, his life remains surprisingly the same. months later he found a new teaching job here, east side high school, gainsville,

florida. the news4 i-team obtained his job application and found endorsements from his capital city charter. >> we were told he was an excellent teacher who brought a lot of positives to his school. >> reporter: it wasn't until more than a year later d.c. police came calling on coleman to investigate those abuse allegations. leading us to wonder how he slipped through the cracks. school police and court records compiled i i by the i-team reveal the time line of events. take a look at this. according to a police report, coleman's contract at another charter school was not renewed in 2004 after the administrator there suspected him of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. when contacted by the i-team, the school said had there been any evidence of misconduct it would have called the authorities. in february 2015 coleman was in his tenth year teaching at capital city charter when they learned about the earlier abuses

immediately and fired him within days. d.c. police said they weren't notified about coleman's crime until april 2016, and not by capital city, but by the victim herself. they arrested and charged coleman with sex abuse weeks later. they didn't learn about coleman's case until may 2016, 14 months after it fired coleman. the school sent this letter to parents saying we have been cooperating with the appropriate district officials and we are asked to keep the matter confidential so as not to jeopardize their investigation. months after that letter, d.c. police began investigating the school itself for failure to report a suspected sex offense. the d.c. office of attorney general said it is deliberating whether to file criminal charges against capital city. we asked officials with the capital city charter school to go on camera and explain their side of the story. they would not. so we submitted written questions, which they declined to answer. instead issuing a statement sa
