temperatures this cold was back in 1973. a record low temperature of 26 degrees at the airport. i think we're going to get very close to that number tonight. already into the 30s and already below freezing off to the west. you can see 38 degrees d.c., 32 in hagerstown. look at all the 20s. that's the cold air everywhere around the mid-atlantic. if you look at our current wind chill, that wind chill right now way down. feels like 30 degrees, d.c., 27 in gaithersburg, feels like 24 degrees in winchester and 31 right now in culpepper. if you are heading out on this friday night, yes, you will need to do just that, bundle up across the region. wind still a little factor, winds gusting 10 to 20 mieltz per hour. once it does, it blows right through, brings you the cold air. make sure you are bundling. as we move into the overnight hours into tomorrow, everybody, just about everybody under a freeze warning tonight as we get not only below freezing, but into the 20. i think in the city we are in the low to mid 20s during the day tomorrow. for you folks not in the freeze warning, you have had yr

tipton air field experienced some type of engine trouble, was trying to head back to tipton when he had to make that decision to land the plane here on an exit ramp from route 665 -- from 95 -- excuse me, 665 outside annapolis. maryland state police were very quickly on the scene. no injuries to anyone aboard, i am told from people who have seen the video, that the pilot appears to have been wearing some type of military uniform. so, i don't know at this point whether perhaps he may be a military pilot or something like that. a relative came to the scene, collected the children. the plane is being taken for evidence for examination in an investigation by both the faa and the ntsb. live in anne arundel county, jackie benson, news4. >> incredible to walk away from that. jackie, thank you.

who is hiv positive sexually molested her son. >> now, her lawyer is putting the school district on notice. >> trying to bring awareness about this incident, not only from a criminal perspective, but from a social conscious perspective what we need to do today, not tomorrow, today to make sure our children are safe in schools. >> her son is just one of a dozen children police tell us carlos bell sexually abused at a middle school in waldorf. >> news4's darcy spencer talks with the young man's mother who says the school should have done more to protect children. >> reporter: this mom asked that we protect her identity and distort her voice. she says her son was one of dozens of boys allegedly molested by carlos bell. now she's demanding reforms. >> i would like to bring awareness to not only other parents

also other school systems. >> reporter: bell is a former instructional aide at benjamin stoddard middle school and former track coach. bell says he's hiv positive. it is unclear if any of the children contracted the disease. >> within two years, 42 victims, and no one was clue ed in? this man had to have some tendencies he's a predator. someone should have realized and paid attention to. >> reporter: she is sending a letter to charles county schools demanding they provide training on how to spot sexual predators to prevent more cases of abuse. they also want the system to strengthen background checks. one attorney even suggested that schoolworkers wear body cameras just like police. >> i'd like to think we draw the line when it comes to our kids. i'd like to think that if we believe that something that can be done, that we can come together collectively as a community and say, yeah, let's do it. >> reporter: carlos bell is facing hundreds of state and federal charges. so far he has pleaded n g

we reached out to charles county schools about this letter. they say they haven't received it yet. in waldorf, darcy spencer, news4. >> now to the unwelcome november surprise for republicans, the bombshell allegations against alabama senate candidate roy moore. he denies the accusation that he initiated a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl back when he was 32. he repeated his denial to radio host sean hannity this afternoon, but he hasn't gone before any journalist to answer their questions. blayne alexander is tracking the story for us. blayne? >> reporter: and, doreen, certainly a lot of people have a lot of questions still remaining for roy moore. now, coincidentally, these allegations became public on the very same day that the senate voted unanimously for mandatory sexual harassment training. and now many republicans, even some who had previously endorsed him, are trying to keep their distance.

republican senate candidate from alabama roy moore who built a base on christian values denies he initiated sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl decades ago when he was 32. >> i never talked to her, never had any contact with her. allegations of sexual misconduct with her are completely false. i believe they're politically motivated. >> reporter: three other women say he also pursued them around the same time when they were in their teens. moore speaking on the sean hannity radio show on offense. >> this has never been brought up. it has never been even mentioned. and all of a sudden four weeks out they're bringing up -- they're bringing up because it's political. it's a direct attack on this campaign. >> reporter: nbc news has not independently confirmed the account and the accuser never filed a police report or a civil suit. today, top republicans quickly backing away from the candidate. >> unless he can prove his innocence, the burden is now on

believe he has to step down. >> reporter: more than a dozen gop senators joining that call. the white house adding allegations alone should not ruin a person's life. >> however, the president also believes that if these allegations are true, judge moore will do the right thing and step aside. >> reporter: but the decision ultimately comes down to the people of alabama. >> i don't think it's true. people that are against him are really against him. >> reporter: and conservative breitbart news published a story ahead of the post in which moore slammed the allegations as a smear campaign. now, moore is refusing to drop out of the race and his name is already on the ballot. alabama officials say that even if he does decide to step aside, it would be too late to remove his name. jim, doreen? >> all right, that's blayne alexander reporting from capitol hill. thank you, blayne. >> some local high school students honored our military veterans with a day of service today. students and teachers here at

alexandria spent the day weeding and mulching school grounds. veterans and spifirst responder helped out, too. they call it operation legacy. it gives the students a chance to work with our veterans while building character through service. a huge dragon, big bonfire, and lots of music, arts and dance considered a small scale version of burning man, and it's coming to the grounds of the washington monument this weekend. news4's mark segraves joins us now from what is called catharsis on the mall. mark? >> reporter: yeah, hey, jim. it's here, it's started, it's underway. this is actually one of the art installations here that i'm standing in that you can come down and experience as part of the catharsis on the mall. right behind me over my shoulder, i don't know if you can see that dragon there on that bus, there actually is a stage on top of that dragon where a band will play at some point. the catharsis on the mall will run basically nonstop from now until sunday night.

transition to work secretly on turkey's behalf while in the white house? >> chuck todd is the nbc news political director and moderator of meet the press. chuck, we are just learning that two republican senators have just pulled their endorsements from moore. mike lee of utah and steve danes of montana. up until now we've heard a lot of if, if it's true. is this the start of a flood? >> the flood already was there. i think mike lee, to me, pulling his endorsement is more damaging. the way he worded the reason, he was giving roy moore a chance. roy moore did sean hannity's radio show today when asked about the allegations. all of his denials had holes in it for what it's worth. if you were -- and, you know, and you could say, well, gees, he's just a politician. no, no, this is the man's first name is judge, okay. he knows exactly what he's saying legally and all those

the accusations and hearing judge moore's response, he's decided to pull his endorsement. basically saying, i believe the women. roy moore is not going to get out. the national party is in a lose/lose situation. the calculation is this. mitch mcconnell believed this from the very beginning which is why he never supported roy moore from the beginning and tried to prevent him from running and let alone winning the nomination, he will do more damage to the republican party in the senate, becoming a national poster, sort of becoming than it would be to have a democrat hold that seat. they can live to fight another day. there are other opportunities for the republicans to pick off some democratic incumbents in 2018. look, it helps the democrats, it hurts tax reform for the republicans. it's certainly not helpful. but you can make a case that roy moore in the senate then suddenly puts -- if you think suburban voters repelled the republican party this election, make it roy moore

be something that would sort of solidify what we saw in suburban, in suburban virginia and all over suburban america. >> that election december 12th. let's move on to another topic. nbc news breaking that story on the special counsel investigation and michael flynn. bring us up to date on that. >> well, look, what they're investigating with michael flynn is this potential quid pro quo and, boy, this story first came out a few months ago when former cia director woolsey walked out of the meeting, they talked about almost kidnapping -- basically it's a political rival of the president of turkey, erdogan. this person has been sort of in asylum here in the united states in pennsylvania and he wanted him extradited to turkey, the united states has not officially -- not agreed to do that. so there was this concocting, sounds like a bad cohen

kidnap him, sneak him somewhere and all this. look, the big picture here is, so, mike flynn is very vulnerable obviously in this issue. now, it doesn't have to do with the russia collusion directly, but again, it as we've talked about, what the special prosecutor is doing is trying to get more cooperation on the initial investigation. mike flynn is potentially a key witness here. we reported last week that they had enough already to indict both mike flynn and his son. it's on this issue, this turkey issue. there hasn't been an indictment yet. perhaps they are negotiating. perhaps -- if you don't see an indictment, it probably means mike flynn is singing. oddly enough, if you're the president of the united states, you're hoping you see the indictment come because if you don't see it, he's cutting a deal. >> doesn't know what's happening. all right. >> the president has been in asia all week. >> uh-huh. >> is he coming back from

has he accomplished anything? >> he's coming back to a mess in his own party because of roy moore. i'll say this about the asia visit overall. he didn't step on any major diplomatic land mines. the north korea issue didn't sort of become an unpredictable problem, you know, either rhetorical, it's not over yet, but no rhetorical saber rattling or actual saber rattling. there wasn't a real deliverable. i would give one little warning here potentially for the president and the politics how he handles china. he was pretty cozy with the president of china. he wanted to talk tough on china on the campaign trail. that's popular to talk tough on china both on the right and the left these days. now, he's not the first president to suddenly sound like a pussy cat about the chinese. i swear outgoing presidents tell incoming presidents, all that china rhetoric, don't do it once you get there. ut

democrat joshua cole believed his race could be that one. if, he says, the stafford county registrar agrees to count certain ballots. >> we don't know who those votes are for. but the fact of the that thor that citizens voices are being muffled and we shouldn't have that. >> reporter: let's simplify things. this is the problem that some democrats see it here in stafford county. you have three separate piles here, right? represented by the leads. this one 55 military absentee ballots. then you have an unknown number of provisional ballots. and then some democrats say you have another 1100 absentee ballots that have been thrown out. now, democrats as a whole here, the party, they're not focussed so much on these. they're looking at these two, the 55 and the unknown number of provisional. they say these could determine the race outcome. >> if they were legally there on time, then i would want them to be counted just like everybody would. >> republican bob thos

her name is alie. she joins her former nieteammatf accusing him of sexual abuse. she told 60 minutes she is going public because she wants to change the culture at gymnastics and spare other girls what she went through. he is accused of assaulting more than 100 former patients. >> and tonight the comedian louis c.k. is admitting he took part in the lewd behavior that has suddenly derailed his career. the "the new york times" reported the accusations from five women yesterday. a movie premiere set for tonight was immediately called off and several projects featuring the comedian have now been canceled. he issued a lengthy apology today saying he understands now that his professional standing gave him power over the women who accused him of misconduct. he also apologized to the people who work on the shows that have been canceled and to his fy.

recovery progress is slow. for every step forward, there seems to be a step back. just yesterday a transmission line failure left thousands in puerto rico without power after it had just been restored to some regions. hospitals and health centers are seriously feeling the impact. last month we visited a dialysis clinic in puerto rico which treats at least half of the patients on the island powered by a generator that doctors told us they had been forced to ration kidney dialysis. the american kidney fund which has been supporting dialysis patients in puerto rico just received a $100,000 grant to continue. >> running a marathon is a strenuous, but rewarding accomplishment for anybody. but consider running 31, and doing it in 31 days. >> cannot imagine it. but that's exactly what a retired marine sergeant plans to accomplish tomorrow. and that may not even be the most impressive part. >> news4's kristin wright tel

becoming victims, too. >> well, the bottom line is don't click. we have said this over and over and over again for years, right? if you get one of these e-mails regardless whether it's netflix or your bank or whatever, don't open it if it looks suspicious. examine if you're in the e-mail and you think it doesn't look right, don't click on the link. here's the problem with the netflix e-mail scam. this went out to about 110 million people 8 or at least that's how many people netflix has worldwide. this is a global company, anyway. and it essentially puts up this very legitimate looking e-mail that says you have been temporarily suspended, your service anyway, until you click on the link and provide your updated information. and then of course they want your credit card information, your bank account information, whatever. well, the trouble is some people have actually clicked on it and done exactly that. we interviewed a woman today in kansas who clicked on the link and gave them her debit card, examine guess what? they cleaned her out of 2000 bucks, and then theyi

mark turgeon's group bring back a talented sophomore class that includes three starters from last season. anthony cowan, anthony jackson, kevin. they'll lead the way. they did lose their leading scorer for last season. as for the maryland women, they have the fourth ranked recruiting class with three highly touted freshmen. both coaches are excited about the possibilities of this season. >> mellow did a lot of great things for us. i think that's pretty obvious. we weren't a good basketball team before he came. we went 28, 27, and 24. so, it's different, but i've been doing this a long time now and i think it's my 31st or 32nd year in coaching. my 20th as a head coach. so, guys move on, guys got to step up, that's why you keep recruiting good players. >> the three we just signed absolutely number four ranked recruiting class in the country, we really addressed our needs in terms of

ability to play. she can play one through three, when you talk about adding the depth of our post players and where we want to get carla charles to, where she's able to present all over the floor, i think it definitely bodes well for our future. >> it's a big night on the ice as well. the caps host the penguins. even the strength versus power play for pittsburgh. so far this year the pengs have outscored at even strength. are they the best power play scoring team in the nhl? in the first meeting they scored on the power play. one facet of the game to watch out for tonight. >> obviously every game is going to be important, but all the divisions games is going to be really, really important. i guess feel like our division, everyone is winning so we have to keep doing the same here. and then obviously we're playing good teams
