lauryn ricketts is here to tell us what is going on. >> you know how we do this. we go from spring/summer like temperatures right into winter. that's what it has been like over the last couple weeks. hello, winter, as you step outside today. it is a crystal clear night. the temperatures were allowed to drop. drop they did. in fact, mighty chilly conditions. it is a weather alert. because of that fact, we continue to see those temperatures in the teens and 20s at this point. again, we have the freeze warning mainly for the greater washington area. the growing season has officially ended, especially with temperatures like this. 18 in martinsberg. it is chilly out there. this morning, temperatures running 20 degrees below normal for day time highs today. we'll talk about mixed precipitation. a little too early to talk

that? well, it's in the forecast. that's coming up. >> interesting. thank you very much. a startling discovery. police looking for more clues this morning. yesterday, a woman's body was found near a dumpster off university boulevard. jackie benson has more. >> reporter: the call came into police around 3:30 p.m. someone found a woman's body next to this dumpster behind the cvs store on university boulevard in wheaton. >> detectives are actively working the crime scene. it's a very fluid situation, in the initial phases. detectives are gathering information, trying to interview anybody who may have been a witness. right now, it is very active and in the initial phases. >> reporter: the woman's body was found in a busy area, lots of foot traffic day and night. people often cut through here to get to a

complex nearby. police search for a 21-year-old woman who disappeared monday just two blocks away. mendez was last seen leaving her job at the kfc on university boulevard just after midnight on monday. >> we had a missing person reported to us on tuesday. given the proximity that she was last seen a couple blocks from here, detectives certainly looking into the possibility. we have not had a chance to confirm the identity of the victim yet. >> reporter: police tell us an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and manner of the woman's death. jackie benson, news 4. this morning, a maryland pilot and his two young sons are okay after their small plane crashed. chopper 4 was over the crash scene i-97 yesterday. the pilot, curry, says he saw smoke as he tried to return to the airfield. curry hit a light pole and a guardrail but, thankfully, managed to miss any people and cars on the road.

to figure out why the plane went down. a local family is nademandi changes in a maryland school district. a former teachers aide abused their child. they say bell abused a dozen boys. he was hiv positive at the time. one of the victim's families is asking for $1 million in compensation from the school district. they also want better training and stronger background checks. a mother who spoke with us, we distorted her voice to protect her son. >> i hope we'll be able to work with the charles county school system in getting this done and saving others from going through this situation or something similar. >> bell is facing hundreds of state and federal charges. he pleaded not guilty to federal child porn charges this

>> reporter: marine corps sergeant jones' motto is survive, recover, live. that's exactly what he's doing. he's a marine on a mission. jones is running 31 marathons in 31 days, and nothing, nothing, will stop him from finishing this weekend. jones set off on his 30th race in baltimore. now, the retired marine from vienna will run his 31st and final marathon on veterans day in washington. jones stepped on an ied in afghanistan and it changed everything. he got stronger at walter reed, winning a bronze medal in rowing in the paralympics, and soon, 31 marathons in 31 days. by running, sergeant jones is raising money for wounded veteran charities and raising awareness that

everybody is below that freezing mark. my goodness. it's chilly because this is the coldest year we've seen yet this season. there's a little bit of a warmup coming but, again, temperatures are going to be mid 50s. still below normal for this year of year. average temperature is 60 degrees. we have the freeze warning that goes until 10:00 a.m. the growing season is over, so the national weather service won't be issuing freeze advisories. it'll be chilly the rest of the winter. they issue that wasn't the temperature drops below 32. the growing season is officially over because the temperatures are well below. 26 in washington. out in the beltway, temperatures in the teens. we'll start to take the temperatures up as we get a little bit of sunshine. but temperatures are only going to top out in the low 40s today. thank goodness we will not see any rain. i believe we could see more cloud cover this afternoon. but it is going to be bitterly c

>> this is awful. a maryland woman says her eyes, yes, her eyes, were partially glued shut after a treatment. now, she's struggling to pay her medical bills. she spoke to news 4's shomari stone in a story you'll see only on news 4. >> i'm really sad about the whole situation. >> reporter: monica tiells me hr vision is blurry after a trip to the salon to get eyelash extensions. >> i was afraid i'd lose my sight. i'm still traumatized by it. >> reporter: she drove to sky nails and spa in maryland five months ago. >> i got a new job. i was treating myself. >> reporter: a beautician painfully damaged her eyes and didn't have an emergency kit to treat her. >> you have to kind of take part of your eyelid down. when she took the tape off and i blinked, the edges of my eyelashes were glued shut. >> reporter: she said she had to use her finger to force her eyes open. she drove to a hospital and

welcome back. we're three months away from the winter olympics. for one local man, he is pleasuring his olympic future by inches in the sport of curling. he's trying out for the u.s. olympic team. >> as news 4's chris gordon learned, the game on ice takes a lot of skill. >> reporter: his brother, caleb, share a dream. olympic gold. 21-year-old hunt er gets his chance next week at the olympic trials in omaha, nebraska. >> to make team usa and have that come to fruition and be a representative of curling from the curling club here in maryland would be extremely important to me. >> reporter: 20-year-old caleb will compete in the junior national curling championships. sunday, he says he hopes to join his brother, trying to make team usa. >>
