she wanted to end the relationship. the victim is the same woman who was reported missing earlier this week. >> reporter: that's right. police are now telling us that the victim and suspect both worked here at this kfc restaurant. it's not far from where the victim's body was found. the suspect told investigators that he waited for her to get off of work. they got into an argument and he confessed to killing her. her body was found near a dumpster behind a shopping center off university boulevard. now a co-worker at the kfc has been charged in her death. the 47-year-old is facing a second degree murder charge. he admitted the couple were involved in a relationship. he said they got in an argument because she wanted to end it. he told investigators he punched her three times and pushed her to the ground. she hit her had

unresponsive. the medical examiner says she suffered multiple blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. he said he threw her purse and cell phone in a dumpster and got away in a taxi. her body wasn't found until friday afternoon in the dumpster area between her home and the kfc. her husband had reported her missing monday morning after she failed to come home from her night shift at that fast food restaurant. the suspect is being held without bond. he could make an appearance in court as soon as monday. >> are we hearing from the family at all after all of this? >> reporter: at this point, we have not been able to. the only thing we know is she lived very close to here. she worked here at the restaurant. over here is where her body was found. she lived over on amherst street in

a principal at a high school says students used snapchat to target a transgender student. according to the newspaper, the students at southern high school went after the teen using threatening language under the name confederate lives matter. police started investigating this. the school's principal says students will be disciplined. the father of the 15-year-old student threatened says that a picture included a student wearing what looks like a kkk hood made from paper towels. three people have to find someplace to stay after a fire ripped through their home. it started in the basement this morning and then it wound up spreading to the upper floors. nobody was hurt. that fire broke out at a two-story house on elm street in northwest d.c. in prince george's un

dramatic video shows a powerboat accident in key west, florida. the boat wrecks on the second day of the key west world championship. one of the boats climbed over the back of another one. you can see there. causing it to fly threw the air, land upside down in the harbor. two men were in each of the boats. believe it or not, nobody was hurt. this next story, it's a troubling trend on area highways. maryland state troopers hit by vehicles while helping stranded drivers. it happened early this morning. a trooper was on the beltway neajo

the emergency lights were on when he was hit by sitting in his patrol car. that driver was charged with dui. the trooper is out of the hospital. according to state records, 38 troopers have been hit on area highways since the beginning of last year. it's the end of an era for a business that's been part of the neighborhood for almost a century. the community turned out to say good-bye. the current own of phillip's shoe repair. he has embodied the soul of the area for over 50 years. >> business has always been good. but rarely this busy. it's probably the first time a mayor has dropped in. this was no ordinary day. it was the last day for this mainstay. >> never seen. miss everybody. everybody like family to me. >> this place has

we have been telling you the incredible story of the double amputee retired marine veteran who set out to run 31 marathons in 31 days. rob jones reached that goal. he ran his final marathon on the national mall alongside dozens of supporters. he lost both of his legs in afghanistan. his goal has been to raise money to help other wounded veterans. we talked to him and the other runners. you will see their inspiring story tonight at 11:00. now your storm team 4 forecast. >> wow. it was cold out there this morning. i don't know if you were able to get out there. temperatures in the district dropped to 26. we tied a record set in 1973 and 1901. right now, we're at 36 and dropping. is it going to be as cold as it was last night? it's going to get pretty close. let's go through this. 11:00 p.m. tonight, notice how in the district still in the low 30s.

the 20s. the numbers fall until about 5:00, 6:00 a.m. notice morning. we start to level out and we will climb after that. temperatures expected though to start on our sunday in the low to mid 30s. going to brunch, going to church, make sure you are bundled up. by the afternoon, we are headed to the upper 50s -- i'm sorry, upper 40s throughout the area and near 50. temperatures really the headline story for next couple of days. i want to show you this. if you are planning on heading out to tree lighting, i thought this happened after thanksgiving. but i was told that it's never too early to get in the christmas spirit. temperatures are expected to be in the 30s tonight. dry. that's the good news. tomorrow any tree lighting, we're looking at the 40s. 44 around 6:00 p.m., pretty cloudy. i have the radar on. i put the satellite superimposed over it. that's what that gray shading is. lots of clouds starting to move in. through our sunday, we're actually going to see the onset

it may look a little more gray as we head through sunday afternoon. i'm fast forwarding to sunday night, early monday morning. here is why. we have got rain chances on the way. pushing ahead, notice how minimal the rain chances are. a lot of the models keeping the d.c. area dry. we could get a shower or two in there. i will keep an eye on that. we could see freezing rain the farther north and west you go of the district. that's something to really watch out for. tomorrow, the greatest chance for rain is really going to be in our eastern zone for those if southern maryland as well. shoutout to clinton, maryland. you could see early monday morning showers on the lighter end. then that chance for isolated pocket of freezing rain, possibly early monday morning. it's restricted north and west of the district. your ten-day outlook, the next couple of days, this is what you can expect. tomorrow, sunday, you are good going out. dress in layers. it's going to be cold. temperatures upper 40s ne

late sunday night into monday morning, that's when we have the greatest chance for showers. those showers will be light in nature. by monday, it's actually going to be a drying day. we will be improving throughout monday. lots of clouds still lingering in the wake of the rain. temperatures on monday in the low 50s. notice the warming trend. we are headed to the upper 50s by the end of the week. i think the best shot at some more moderate rainfall is really going to be hiding in thursday and friday as well as early saturday morning. we will keep an eye out for that. stay warm. >> thanks. another big saturday in college football. a bunch of area teams in action. one local team's game ended in -- we show the video? we will show it to you in a minute. a bit of a fist fight. t will show
