this all started around 9:00 last night in a parking lot near the blade jens woods condominiums. >> reports of a man with a gun. they confronted that man. an officer shot the suspect in the lower part of his body. it's not clear what led the officer to fire his gun. he is on routine administrative leave. police say they recovered a gun from the suspect as well. >> new video is surfacing following a magnitude 7.3 earthquake along the iran/iraq border. take a look. this shows the destruction there. you can see the buildings and roads are complete rubble. >> chris lawrence at the live desk with the latest on this disaster. >> chris, what have you learned? >> well over 300 people have been killed. here's more new video. this is coming from the iranian side. iranian state tv is reporting that 330 people have been killed. more than 2500 people injured. you can see

a major overhaul begins today. it will impact your commute for nearly an entire year. news 4's adam tuss is live with that station and a look at the work and how this is part of a bigger plan. that's going to cause quite some problems there, adam. >> a little bit, eun. this is a busy station. u.s. district court and the other things that go on down. the guys are down here. they've been out here getting this work under way. this is two escalators on the fourth and indiana side of judiciary square. we can give you a better idea if you take a look at this map as where these particular escala r escalators are. there are two entrances to judiciary square. this one at fourth and indiana will be closed for the next ten months. that's something to be aware of. really overall, metro has a big plan to overhaul a lot of its escalators over the next decade. their target performance for escalators is improving. they hope to hit a target

suspect pulled out a knife. police say he stabbed the victim and another man. the suspect is in jail. a small texas church that was the scene of a massacre has reopened as a memorial. it's been one week since the gunman killed 26 people inside the church. that space is all white with 26 chairs. they're adorned with a red rose. pastor said they did it to remind everyone that love never fails. the church also held services under a tent on a baseball field. the congregation was showered with love when hundreds of people drove to attend that first service since the massacre. >> wanted to show up and show respect. >> as a fellow texan and as just basically a christian, basically our duty to support everybody who is around us and a community that's basically hurting. >> senator john cornin was also at the service and

system for buying guns. this morning, new york city is mourning the loss of the city's undisputed queen of gossip. liz smith died yesterday at the age of 94. the columnist spent more than half a century detailing the highs and lows of a-list celebrities. smith was one. most widely red columnists in the world. she raised a lot of money for charities, supporting women's rights and literacy. a big week is coming up in the voice with three nights of competition, the playoff round. >> a maryland man among those trying to get to the top 12. >> fleming is from baltimore. he wowed the judges in the knockout rounds. he's trying to make it to the live shows that will start airing next week. fleming can't wait to get mother crack at moving ahead in the competition. >> part of me thought i would make it

even though the rain is starting to clear out, it's going to be a chilly day. we'll continue to see the drying, right now in the 30s. dry until thursday morning. that's the next rain chance. rain and cold come this week. one day of rain this week and one day of pretty chilly temperatures. i'll show you that in a second. the rain around. still mostly in maryland. the good news is a lot of it's cleared out of district. the roads are still wet. keep that in mind. we've been seeing that rain overnight. maryland is seeing most of this rain. mostly lighter rain. maybe more moderate rain in calvert county. in annapolis, heading from that direction, dealing with that steady, light rain. 42 degrees right now in washington. 37 leesburg and gaithersburg. we have chilly temperatures. clinton dropped down to 39 degrees. if you're exercising this morning, a lot of the rain will be gone. the pavement will be wet. you want the warm jacket throughout the day today. we'll start to dry out. we'll see the clouds breaking later

>> this morning, a maryland state trooper is out of the hospital after being hit by a drunk driver. this happened early saturday morning. officers say trooper first class angel ortiz was on the beltway. the trooper's emergency lights were on when he was hit while sitting in his patrol car. the driver was charged with dui. according to state records, at least 38 troopers have been hit on area highways since the beginning of last year. this morning, a prince george's county woman is in the hospital after a fire tore through her home. you take a look here. the flames broke out yesterday afternoon on eastern avenue in capitol heights. they rescued one woman from the basement. the fire started in the basement and quickly spread to the rest of that house. >> a woman and her daughter lived in that home for many years. >> all of that -- that's the lady that always give us our mail. i feel real sorry for her. she's without a home.

different versions of what to do with your taxes. they're going to try to battle this out and try to work to the end of the year for getting this really big tax reform done. one of the issues you need to watch, what's going on. if you're a homeowner, watch this closely. because the senate wants to get rid of your property tax deduction. the house wants to keep that up to $10,000. both of them, though, want to eliminate state and local tax deductions. but they would keep the mortgage interest deduction. so the bottom line, if you're a homeowner here, mortgage interest, yes. you could continue to deduct that. property taxes maybe, maybe not. depending how they work this out. >> tracie potts live on capitol hill for us. thank you. >> the chairman of the prince william county board of supervisors is defending alabama senate roy moore. moore is accused of initiating sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. he was in his 30s. cory stuart said the allegations

stewart says he won't believe the allegations until he sees proof. stewart is trying to unseat virginia democratic senator tim kaine. moore denies the allegations. maryland governor larry hogan weighing in on moore. he's calling on moore to step side saying he's unfit for office following sexual misconduct allegations. moore called them completely false. he vowed to stay in the race. >> sean hannity's show on fox news is moving advertisers over his coverage of the roy moore scandal. after the scandal broke. hannity asked his viewers to give moore the benefit of the doubt. at least five companies including keurig, would no longer advertise their products on the show. fans of the show and hannity criticized the brands for taking a political stance and called for a boycott that was on twitter. hundreds of sexual assault

these are the two at the fourth and indiana side of things. be aware that this entrance is going to be closed for the next ten months. that could actually stretch into about a year if this project goes a little bit longer. yeah, the work is under way. take a look at this map who told you there's two entrances to judiciary square. this is the fourth and indiana side of things. the other entrance to judiciary square metro is over by the national building museum. this is the one going to be closed for quite some time. it's close to u.s. district court and everything else down in this particular area. overall, metro has been trying to fix its escalators across this system. they have a ten-year plan to fix 100 escalators. these two at judiciary square date back to 1976. the opening of the metro system. so they definitely need to go. about 9,000 people a day use the escalators here and the entrances here at judiciary square. be aware that this could
