firefighters ultimately had to go inside to rescue two people who were trapped. news 4 pat collins is on the scene at lorraine drive. tell us about this. >> a man and a woman are said to be on the edge of death tonight after a fire swept through this house on lorraine drive in temple hills. brandon clay, a neighbor, he tried to go in and save them. he went to the front door, he went to the side door, he went to the back door, he tried to make that rescue, but it was not to be. >> all i heard was help. help. please help me. >> you tried your best to get in there. >> i tried. i tried. >> reporter: too hot? >> hottest temperatures i ever felt in my life, and i work on

>> reporter: that is brandon clay. he saw the fire. he heard the woman inside yell for help. he tried his best to make the rescue. but the smoke was too thick, the flames too tall, the fire too hot for him to get inside. it must have eaten at your heart to hear these cries for help. >> yeah. i have grandparents. i have grandparents. it is messing me up. really is. >> reporter: you did your best. >> wish i could have did more. >> reporter: on the ground, a dozen pieces of equipment and 35 firefighters deployed. th

out of the house. the woman believed to be in her 80s, neighbor's say she uses a wheelchair. neighbors say the man is her son. they believe he's in his 60s. look down the street, you can see the investigators from the police department and the fire department. they're working the scene. they're trying to determine the cause. they're trying to figure out what happened here this afternoon. that could take some time. back to you. >> heartbreaking. >> no words. thank you very much. a man and his dog are dead after a fire inside a mobile home in charles county. the fire decimated the mobile home. fire officials say they found a man and his dog

door. >> fire was over that tree down there. engulfed. didn't have a chance. >> reporter: the medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death. the sheriff's office is notifying the man's family before releasing his name. breaking now, we just got word of another deadly fire in charles county. this one at a home on goldie farm place in waldorf. a woman there is dead. chopper 4 heading to the scene now. just in, all lanes are open again on the loudoun county parkway at route 50. crews just finished clearing concrete pipes on the northbound side of the road. >> chopper 4 over that scene. this started about an hour ago the pipes slipped off the back of a truck going through that intersection. on capitol hill, a bipartisan effort to overhaul the way sexual harassment claims are treated. it's a measure that couldff

lawmakers. erica gonzalez has a look at what it aims to accomplish. >> it's a step forward in making it easier for victims of sexual harassment on the hill to come forward. after sharing her own story of sexual harassment, jackie spear helped introduce a new bipartisan bill today. the member and employee training and oversight on congress act, the me too koccongress act does overhaul, but here's what the bill does. for starters, it guarantees a lawyer rep haven't the victim during a process. this is for interns and fellows as well. it requires paid leave or the option to work remotely during the proceedings. the me too congress accorders members of congress pay the cost of settlement deals, something that was previously footed by taxpayer dollars. >> it's

the extra mile to reform the system and protect the victims. zero tolerance is meaningless unless it is backed up with enforcement and accountability. >> earlier this week a new directive went out mandating that sexual harassment training for all staffers and senators alike. back to you. loudoun county's courthouse expected to be a busy place tomorrow as actress rose mcgowan is formally arraigned on drug charges. incident dates back to january when they flew into d.c. to attend a women's march. she turned herself in yesterday. david culver just stepped out of the courthouse. there he's checking in live. you have a copy of that arrest warrant what jumped out at you there? >> this is it here. i just got my hands on this warrant. this comes after she turned herself in to police yesterday. it happened around the afternoon time. we're told the actress and

loudoun county. that's when the airport authority sent two detectives to leesburg to execute it officially. she was granted a $5,000 bond at that time as she met with the magistrate. she also took what is customary for anyone who is arrested, a booking photo this stems from a january 20th incident at dulles airport. that's when the airport authority says in this warrant that mcgowan, who was in town for the women's march, made her way on a united airlines flight and apparently, according to the warrant, left her wallet on the plane. dropped it where she was seated. towards the front of the plane. the warrant goes on to say a member of the cleaning crew actually discovered the wallet. inside she had her license, she had several credit cards and a medical marijuana card as well.

member found two small plastic bags containing a powder substance. the warrant goes on to say that it was later tested, and tested positive for cocaine. so we do know that is now the official charge here. possession of a substance. it's a felony charge at that. mcgowan told the "new yorker" today that she plans to plead not guilty. that's going to happen officially when she shows up here at court tomorrow. that will be tomorrow morning, 1 11:15. this will be a crowded place as she makes her way here. >> no doubt. she had some interesting things to say about loudoun county on her twitter account. in case you want to check that out. >> absolutely. >> you saw that? >> i did. it's worth pointing out, too, she told the "new yorker" this was perhaps planted. this all connects to the harvey weinstein incident where she says he forced her into sexual

vehicles that are aggressively driving, in and out of traffic, weaving in and out of traffic. following the vehicle in front of them too closely. >> we come across emergency vehicles. working on the shoulder of the highway. >> all these vehicles here, they're not obeying the move over law. >> the drivers in the lane next to the emergency crews are supposed to move over a lane or slow down. if they don't, the drivers could be ticketed. in virginia, interstate 95 and 66 are expected to be congested starting next tuesday. chopper 4 is keeping an eye on traffic throughout northern virginia. vdot says it will lift lane closures to ease thanksgiving travel. lane restrictions on 66 will be suspended on thursday november 23rd. most work zones in virginia will not be operating to allow for better traffic flow.

a news 4 consumer investigation finds hundreds of controversial guardrails on our roads. they're being blamed for at least six deaths. susan hogan is working for you and joins us with details about guardrails which i never really thought of as hazards. >> you're so right. this is such a heartbreaking story that we'll share with you guys. we talked about a father who lost his teen daughter in an accident with one of these guardrails. he filed a lawsuit. it's the third one against the manufacturerla

clouds. the high level clouds associated with this frontal boundary. the actual storm way up towards the great lakes. you can see the trailing cold front, this will move through overnight tonight. moving through 6:00, we have the cloud cover, by 10:00, 11:00, starting to see the showers moving in, most of them along the i 81 corridor. watch how this band of moisture moves in. 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 in the morning through d.c., then it gets out of here, then the wind shifts out of the northwest. so we see the upslope flow back to the west, rain and snow showers back towards the west. for us, we clear out in a big way. we have a lot of sunshine during the day tomorrow. though it will be windy. i mentioned the chance for snow back to the west. deep creek they could see some snow tomorrow. not for us. still on the warm side. 59 degrees. winds pic

information about children's mental health in a report released today. >> this national report released today by the non-profit mental health america looked at all 50 states and the district. they found mental health problems continue to trend up among young people nationwide. too many of them are not getting the treatment that could help them. mental health america's website has screening tools for mental illness visited by 3,000 people daily. the results of those screenings along with national data on mental illness, those are what the organization has been studying. in a five-year period, rates of severe youth depression have gone up nationwide. half of the kids between the ages of 11 and 17 who screened for severe depression say they think often about suicide and self harm a few times a week. more than three quarters of young people are not getting treatment. 1.7 million children who don't have access

because it's not available where they live or they don't have health insurance that covers the cost. it's so important to identify mental health issues early and get treatment before problems escalate. we heard from a number of students about the challenges and pressures they face, along with school and friends the impact of social media came up a lot and how it affected their self worth and relationships. but we also profiled a program reaching young people. it's called sources of strength, a national program offered at mcclain high school. it relies on young people helping peers. we have a anybody of area and national resources available. if you're looking for help, go to our nbc washington website and search under changing minds. the mental health america people find that on average it takes 10

this wednesday afternoon. fish fig firefighters had to pull a man and woman from a burning home in prince george's county. they are in extremely critical condition. neighbor s tell us they heard cries for help but could not go in due to the heat and smoke from the fire. more republicans are calling for moore to pull out of the alabama race. and some are suggesting a write-in campaign to defeat moore. the death poll from yesterday's california shooting rampage is up to five. police found the shooter's wife hidden underneath a floor board in the home. he then went on a shooting spree injuring four others and injuring ten. rose mcgowan expected to plead not guilty tomorrow in loudoun county court when she's arraigned on drug charges. cocaine was
