1987. he pulled her out of school when he asked her out. that date ended with an unwanted forceful kiss. another woman who worked at the mall said roy would linger and she reported him to her manager when he kept asking her out. this came as another woman claimed he groped her at a law office when she was 28. it has called the onslaught of allegations a politically motivated witch hunt and denies any sexual misconduct. >> judge moore has been falsely accused of things he did not do. >> reporter: another accuser said he sexually assaulted her 40 years ago. he was

senate and tighten tax reform and everything else on the agenda. >> lots more to get to this morning including breaking news overnight in baltimore. a veteran detective fighting for his life after being shot in the head. a manhunt is now on the way for the gunman and tom costello is on the story this morning. tom, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. this happened in western baltimore. a veteran detective at baltimore shock trauma medical center this morning and police are still searching for the suspect. this morning a manhunt is under way for a gunman who shot and gravely wounded a baltimore homicide detective wednesday. investigators say the detective was investigating a homicide when he observed the shooter engaged in suspicious behavior. as the officer approached him and tried to start a conversation, the suspect shot the detective in the head. >> that baltimore police detective was just doing his job on behalf of this city. >> reporter: police have not

husband and father of two. >> this is a dangerous job. police officers know at any given time they could confront someone who wants to do them harm, and that's exactly what happened tonight. >> reporter: the attack is the second shooting of a baltimore detective this month. it comes in a wave of violence. more than 300 homicides this year in baltimore. the third tiyear in a row the number has been that high. >> enough is enough. crime has to come to a halt in this city. this kind of violence can't be tolerated. and to have one of our own out there trying to protect the citizens of our city to be gunned down like this is just unacceptable. >> reporter: as police barricaded roads, tactical units and helicopters looked for the shooter. >> my guess is there is more than one other person who is aware that this callous coward with a gun in his hand shot a cop in

we're going to arrest him. we're going to ensure that justice is done. >> reporter: the mayor of baltimore says violence in that city is out of control, blasting prosecutors and judges for allowing repeat offenders back on the streets. more than a dozen people have been shot, many killed, in that section of baltimore in recent years, including an off-duty d.c. police officer killed just 12 days ago. guys? >> tom, thank you. turn now to yet another college campus rocked by the death of a fraternity pledge. the latest incident at texas state university. police are investigating and that school is suspending all greek life activities. nbc's blake mccoy has more on that. blake, good morning. >> matt, good morning to you. police in texas do suspect alcohol played a role in this student's death. now they want to know how much he drank, was he forced to drink as part of hazing, and who, if anyone, should be held

responsible. texas state university grieving the loss of one of their own. hundreds attending a solemn candlelight vigil overnight to remember classmate matthew ellis. the 20-year-old business major dying tragically after attending a fraternity party off campus. police suspect alcohol was involved and are now investigating whether criminal charges should be filed. >> we're waiting for toxicology to come back, doing follow-up interviews and just trying to bring it all together. >> reporter: but the university is not waiting, suspending all fraternity and sorority activities on campus. >> what we're trying to do here is kind of push the pause button on activities so we can get a better chance to look at things. >> reporter: it's a disturbing trend. this year alone, fraternity hazing and alcohol are suspected in three other campus deaths. 19-year-old timothy piazza pledging at penn state died at a party, more than two

facing charges for their vovrmt. maxwell gruver, a pledge at ohio state, after being told to drink massive amounts of alcohol. ten people being charged there. and 18-year-old matthew coffey died after a pledge. >> the deaths of people for the actions of one group seem to be overlooking the good that a lot of these organizations do. >> reporter: as you heard the spokesperson say, it's about hitting the pause button. toxicology results for matthew ellis likely will take six weeks to come back. i want to give you an update on a story we told you about on wednesday. the manhunt is over this morning for a dangerous patient who

hospital in hawaii. officials say a tip from a taxi driver in stockton, california led to the capture of 59-year-old randy sito. he was found guilty of a 1979 murder by reason of insanity. sito walked out of a hawaii state hospital on sunday, climbed into a waiting taxi and board aid charter flight before health department officials even had a chance to alert authorities. at least seven hospital employees have now been suspended without pay as officials investigate how that patient was able to walk free. now the latest on that international incident involving three ucla basketball players arrested for shoplifting in china. they've now apologized publicly but they do still face an uncertain future, and the president himself is tweeting about it this morning. craig melvin is here with that. good morning, craig. >> good morning, guys. the president tweeting a few moments ago. without taking questions, each player read from prepared statements acknowledging their

they will not travel with the team or dress for momhome games. but the university left the door open for their return. >> at some point they may be allowed to join practices, home games and team meetings. but that action is yet to be determined. >> reporter: authorities said the theft happened during 90 minutes of free time during the trip. >> it was at that time they took items from three of those stores without paying for them. >> reporter: the next day chinese authorities showed up at the players' hotel and took them into custody. they were held overnight until ucla paid $2900 for their release. they told "today" last march deangelo will only play one year

margaritaville resort here in key west, and as you might imagine, tourism is the number one industry down here in the florida keys, but of course hurricane irma greati inly affeg that and people's lives here. but it was first responders and neighbors helping neighbors that actually helped the keys come back. this is a monster storm and it is not weakening very much. >> we estimate there are about 31,000 people that have already evacuated from the keys as of 6:00 p.m. last night. >> the diameter of the storm is much bigger, almost twice as wide, as the state of florida itself. >> 25% of the houses initially have been destroyed and 65% have major damage.

>> i love the song "love me tender" and i have to say i always thought it was kind of a romantic song. but in the movie where it debuted, he was singing it to his mom and his family. >> his family in the movie "love me tender." >> it kind of works as a children's book. it got me. it's very touching. >> it is touching. it's very tender, touching, very compassionate and it's just perfect, you know, for a children's book, especially younger children. this starts out from birth and it goes into when they get a little older and a little older. it's every race and culture that can relate to it, every country. it's a first book for children to even learn how to read. the illustrations are so beautifully done, i think it really sets the story in such a way that even children at a young age can relate to. so, yeah. i'm really proud of
