student says a teacher removed her hijab in the classroom. >> sparked controversy and investigation. and this morning we are hearing from fairfax county schools. >> megan is here this morning. >> reporter: good morning. when a student posted a series of tweets. now the student wares a-ears a . i was in the middle of a conversation with my friend and he came from behind me and pulled it off. then she says, then he says, oh, your hair is pretty and tries to play it off like it's a joke. and later tweet the student says i felt so infuriated, upset and mostly shocked because he did this to

now fairfax county public schools confirmed they are in investigating this alleged incident. and gave a statement. the teacher's action was inappropriate and unacceptable. the school administration has apologized to the student and her family for the incident. now the school system not saying anything beyond that saying that an investigation is ongoing. but they do say that the teacher at the center of this is on leave while that investigation is ongoing. now, my colleague chris gordon is going to be following this and he's going to have the latest on the investigation and the allegations coming up at news4, 5:00 and 6:00, back to zb zb. >> thank you. and we are following a story in man who shot applies detective in the head. detective has been on the force for 18 years. and is on life support right now. the shooting happened last night about a mile from the inner

reports it's an area that's been plagued by high cream recently. >> reporter: this morning a manhunt under way for a gunman who shot and wounded a detective yesterday. he was investigating a homicide when he observed the shooter engaged in suspicious behavior. as he approached him and tried to start a conversation, he shot the detective in the head. >> that baltimore police detective was just doing his job on behalf of the city. >> reporter: police have not named the detective but he's a husband of two. >> dangerous job. police officers know at any given time they can confront someone who wants to do them harm. and that's exactly what happened tonight. >> reporter: the attack was second shooting of a law enforcement in west baltimore this month. and it comes a mid a way of violence, more than 300 homicides this year. the third year in a row the number has been that hh.

suspect in that case. >> also developing this morning, a violent night in the district left one woman dead. there were four shootings, in four hours. take a look here. the shootings were spread out all over the city. five people were shot in four different locations. here is what we know about the only deadly shooting. it happened on just street in northeast just before 7:00 last night. a witness reported hearing gunshots coming from an ally behind a building. the woman was found dead on the doorstep of her apartment building. we have learned that she had just moved into that building after getting a new job. d.c. police have not released any suspect information. and just a few minutes ac rest rose mcgowan is expected to plead not guilty. police say cocaine was discovered in her wallet on a plane at dulles airport back in january. she was in town for the women's march.

their stores. sue hand hogan tells you how that impacts your next shopping trip. >> reporter: what do some businesses have is the sweet-spot and personnel connection with customers. and some say these big retailers can learn a lot from the small businesses. but major retailers have realized they get what they pay for. that's why we are seeing big box businesses bumped up employee pay, because paying minimum wage isn't cutting it. and retailers want to hire associates who can make a difference when it comes to customer service. >> you don't want a consumer walking in and meeting sales associate who is also there for the first time. it doesn't help those stores that are large big box environment really capture the consumer attention. >> walmart usually hires thousands, not this year, instead extra hours to staff. at the end of the day what we really want from retailers is
