>> reporter: the burglar is looking for neighborhoods like this. this is fair oaks glenn and you can see that all of the homes have garages here. he then goes around on the street and looks for cars that are open, gets inside and takes out garage door openers. that's how he gains access to the house. take a look at the map here. it's happened four times this week. twice in fair oaks. twice in neighborhoods in reston. we're talking about streets like valley oak drive, hunt manor court. edge mere circle. once he gets the remote, he has easy access through the garage doors into the house. he's doing this early in the morning, around 2:00, 3:00 in the morning. there are have been incidents where the homeowner heard a noise, got up to investigate and found the man inside their home. the burglar got wallets and purses before taking off or -- before running away. >> another time a homeowner was awakened

find anyone inside their house. but they noticed later that the garage door opener had been taken from their car. there have been similar incidents in loudoun county recently. police have not linked those incident to these incidents. but certainly there are similarities and it's all a reminder to lock your door and of course, keep those garage door openers secure. because a garage can give easy access to your home. back to you guys. >> megan mcgrath, live in fairfax county. montgomery county police are trying to find out who is using a bb or pellet gun to shoot out windows in germantown. take a look at this map. this is where things are happening. five incidents happened last friday including in montgomery county. no one was injured. but police say it was the second time in ten days that car windows had been shot out on i-270. anyone with information is asked to call police. developing this morning, a

baltimore for the person who killed a police officer. detective shawn suiter was shot in the head wednesday night. he died yesterday surrounded by his wife and five children. there's a $169,000 reward for information that leads to the killer's arrest and commission. the commissioner is counting on neighbors to speak up. >> we are absolutely certain that the community will step up again and stand with the baltimore police department to bring this heart less, soulless killer to justice. >> police believe the secretary may be injured in some way. they didn't elaborate on that though. scammers may be trying to -- fake go fund me sites. the detective's family says they are not behind any of those accounts. minnesota senator al franken is under fire this

police say the woman, remember the woman captured in the video climbing through the mcdonald's drive-through window is now in custody. >> that video has gone viral. howard county police say it shows jessica cross climbing inside the mcdonald's in columbia and stealing cash, food, a purse and happy meal toys. >> toys too. tips from the community helped them track her down. 27 years old. she stole about $1400 in cash. i'm meagan fitzgerald with breaking news here at the live desk. three people in alexandria are without a home. fairfax county fire officials responded to a mobile home avenue early this morning. two people were transported for treatment to an area hospital. one was transported to a burn unit. the other person in a local hospital. the red cross is assisting the displaced

metro is dealing with a situation that's kind of disgusting. potentially dangerous. hair and other human fibers are accumulating in metro tunnels at such a high rate that the mess could lead to electrical sparks and a fire. this is what that buildup looks like. the largest union that represents trains and employees says metro needs to find a way to keep the areas around insulators clean. metro increased track bed cleaning since last year. >> that is gross. we continue to follow breaking news. a senior living community gutted by flames. what it took to get people to safety. plus new developments in the investigation released in just the last 30 minutes. >> if you're just waking up, serena williams got married. the big event that brought out

we're following. a scary series of burglaries in fairfax county has people on edge. someone is stealing garage door openers and breaking into homes. it happened in fairfax. around the same time thursday morning, two homes in reston were burglarized. the homeowner caught the man inside the house going through their belongings. >> police are trying to figure out who is using a bb gun or pellet gun to shoot out windows. five incidents happened last friday including one on a bus. it was the sec time in ten days the car windows had been shot out on the interstate. >> senator al franken is apologizing after an l.a. radio anchor accused him of groping her and kissing her. this shows him grabbing the breast of her and during a uso tour.
