also, remembering the baltimore police detective shot and killed on the job. >> my biggest sorrow is that he's not there for his family. >> sean suiter longtime friend and fellow officer talking only to news 4. >> and a look at the women defending senator al franken and senate candidate roy moore. news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. >> we are awaiting an update any minute from u.s. park police about a chase tonight in fairfax county. >> we know it ended with a crash in a residential neighborhood. a big shock for folks who live nearby. this was the scene just before 8:00 tonight along fort hunt road in the mt. vernon area. still very active right now. news 4's jackie bensen is there with details. >> reporter: jim, we are awaiting confirmation including whether or not this was a fatal

fired at u.s. park police officers during a pursuit. and i can tell you that the crash, as it entered this residential area, was horrific. the vehicle believed to be the suspect's crashed at the intersection of ft. hunt root and alexandria avenue in the mt. vernon area of fairfax county. residents of the quiet suburban neighborhood say they quickly realized something bad had happened. >> we heard a loud boom, we thought could have been -- we weren't quite sure what it was. we thought it could have been either gunshot or a loud crash. so at that point we were like, okay, this is just getting -- we locked the doors. something's going on. >> at least part of the incident involved the pursuit by united states park police. it stretched down the george washington memorial parkway south of reagan national airport. at some point the suspect's vehicle veered off the parkway on to anderson avenue. the crash appears to have

turn right on to ft. hunt road. now we're awaiting a public information officer from the united states park police who will hopefully answer some of the questions, fill in some of the details. when we get that, we'll bring it to you live. live in fairfax county, jackie bensen, news 4. >> jackie, thank you. we'll get back to you. also breaking tonight a haz-mat situation just cleared from georgetown university. this picture is from d.c. fire and ems. they say there was a fire in a laboratory containing unknown chemicals. staff extinguished the flames. three people were taken to the hospital. the incident is considered under control now. turning to our weather and what promises to bring a little bit of everything for your weekend. >> yeah, cold, rain, wind. doug, you got it all for us, don't you? >> yeah, even warm temperatures, guys, and that's this time tomorrow. we could be about 20 degrees warmer than we are right now, but that's not gooding to last. take a look ate

are right now. it is cold outside. once the sun went down, temperatures would fall rapidly. and they've definitely done that. down around or below freezing in many areas. 32 in lorton, 28 in manassas and 40 degrees in d.c. if the rain moved in now, we'd be talking about freezing rain and sleet, but i don't think that's going to be the case. this is why. we've got cloud cover moving in first. that will attempt to stabilize the temperatures somewhat, then tomorrow morning i expect numbers to rise before the rain tries to get in here. rain will be a factor on your saturday. i'll take you hour by hour and show you what the next storm, what this storm means for not just your saturday but your sunday, too. the next 48 hours a little bit of a roller coaster. the baltimore police officer and d.c. native killed in the line of duty may have been shot with his own gun. baltimore's police chief says tonight all of the shell casings collected at the scene

detective sean suiter's gun. investigators vow they're ruling nothing out and continue to look for a second gun in nearby abandoned row houses. police are also looking for the shooter. investigators suspect he's still in maryland and may have a telltale wound. >> friends, family, acquaintances who know of someone with a new unexplained injury and they're either seeking treatment unconventionally for that injury or they're not seeking treatment at all or they're being treated by friends and family, that would be something that we really need to know about. >> nearly $200,000 is available to anyone who helps catch detective suiter's killer. >> suiter worked in baltimore but was raised here in d.c., and there are still people in our area who love him and are struggling with this loss. >> that includes a friend and former co-worker who was at the hospital when suiter died. he spoke to our

tonight. >> i'm just leaning towards the lord for comfort and understanding. >> louis holland relies on faith to help him get through this difficult time as he mourns over the loss of his close friend, fallen officer sean suiter. >> upset. you know, enraged. >> the baltimore homicide detective was shot and killed in the line of duty this week. >> you can't help but selfish and feel that if i was his partner, it wouldn't have happened, or if i was there with him, it wouldn't have happened. >> louis holland is a retired baltimore police officer who lives in prince george's county. he met suiter when he joined the force 18 years ago. he talked to him just last week. >> he told me about his daughter playing volleyball. >> doctors pronounced suiter dead at a hospital surrounded by his wife, children and friends including louis holland. >> it was just heartfelt sorrow for the family. >> detective suiter grew up in the d.c. area. his mother died around eight years ago.

sisters, but he did have a close-knit family including one cousin here in the area. we just talked to him moments ago. >> i just can't believe he's gone. just -- i mean, it's hard to believe. of all people, sean. >> police are searching for the shooter. >> please turn yourself in. >> in prince george's county, shomari stone, news 4. tonight, several women are coming forward to defend senator al franken and senate candidate roy moore. the two men are both caught up in scandals involving sexual harassment or misconduct, but the accusations they're facing and their responses have been very different. a photo shows senator franken appearing to grope a sleeping l leeann tweeden on a flight home from a uso show. she accuses franken of kissing her during a rehearsal. eight women released a joint statement saying he

franken has not appeared in public since the allegations came to light. today on "the view" tweeden read an apology that franken sent directly to her. she said she believed he was sincere. >> meanwhile, in alabama today, roy moore's wife said he will not drop out of his senate race in the face of sexual assault allegations. kayla moore appeared with women who support her husband calling his character godly. moore is accused of sexually assaulting two women when he was in his 30s and they were teenagers. others have accused him of making unwanted sexual advances. alabama republican governor kay ivey says she believes them but that won't change her vote. >> there's never an excuse for or rationale for sexual misconduct or sexual abuse. it bothers me! >> governor, do you still plan to vote for roy moore? >> that's what i plan to do

>> moore's opponent in next month's special election, democrat doug jones, is leading in the latest polls. his campaign has raised about a quarter of a million dollars a day since the scandal broke last week. president trump is catching a lot of heat tonight over his different reactions to the accusations against judge moore and senator franken. trump ripped the democrat but has remained silent on the republican. here's the white house response today when asked about past sexual assault allegations against the president. >> senator franken has admitted wrongdoing and the president hasn't. i think this was covered pretty extensively during the pain. we addressed that then. the american people i think spoke very loud and clear when they elected this president. >> press secretary sarah sanders says the allegations of impropriety by powerful men is an uncomfortable conversation for the country.

criticism from conservationists, animal rights groups and even fellow republicans. president trump is backing off a decision permitting the importation of trophies of dead elephants. the president tweeted tonight that he is putting this big game trophy decision on hold pending a review of the facts. he said he and his interior secretary will provide an update soon. just yesterday the fish and wildlife service lifted a ban on bringing those trophies into our country. the agency said that the hunting and management programs for african elephants in zimbabwe and zambia will actually enhance the survival of the species in the wild, but many groups didn't see it that way and they blasted the decision. citing the political turmoil in zimbabwe, a top republican said the decision was the wrong move at the wrong time. critics also pointed out that trump's adult sons, donald jr. and eric trump, are big game hunters. we'll let you know what the presidelt

doreen, back to you. >> thank you. questions still remain about a mysterious raid from wildlife officials at a home furnishing store in virginia. residents in middleburg were surprised by the activity they saw today. news 4 cameras caught federal agents removing items from the outpost, but federal officials and the store owners aren't telling us much at all about why. neighbors say the husband and wife who own the store are well liked here and they've lived in the town for several years. friends of a murdered yoga instructor are not condemning her killer. they're imploring d.c. social services to help him. duane johnson was sentenced today to 30 years in prison. johnson confessed to assaulting and killing tricia mccauley last christmas day. his lawyer says just before the murder, johnson was kicked out of a mental health facility because he didn't have insurance. mccauley's friends hope johnson can be rehabilitated in jail. >> we hope that the d.c. court

system will improve its mental health services to folks on the street. >> mccauley was on her way to christmas dinner with friends when she was murdered. those friends told the young today they're in grief counseling to help cope with losing her. next at 11:00, people still missing tonight after that massive fire at a senior center. the latest from the philadelphia suburb. plus response to the protests at a local high school today over a teacher removing a muslim student's hijab. and the ice is back at national harbor.

a pennsylvania mayor says some people are still missing tonight after this massive fire tore through a senior living center. the mayor of west chester doesn't know how many people are unaccounted for, but the inferno injured nearly 30 people. no confirmed deaths at this time. the flames broke out late last night and spread rapidly. right now the scene is too unstable for investigators to enter. people jumped to help with the wre rescue effort. >> black smoke, you couldn't see. i judidn't think about me runni out and leaving them in. i thought about getting them out. >> a lot of people don't know where to go tomorrow. and their families are scared. just sad. >> rescue crews rescued more than 150 people. investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire. tonight firefighters are still on the scene of a five-alarm fire at a new york city apartment building. more than 200 firefighters were called out when it broke out

most of the roof of this six-story building collapsed in the fire. at one point officials feared the rest of the building would kafb in because cave in because of the heavy fire and water damage. no one was in the building when it started burning. three firefighters and one other person were hurt but they're expected to be okay. students rally around a high school teacher suspended for removing a girl's hijab. students walked out of class tonight chanting we want sounders. a muslim student says she was embarrassed when the teacher took her head scarf off in class. the council on islamic/american relations is now representing that student. the group says it doesn't trust the school to properly investigate the case. they want fairfax county schools to take over. the teacher told co-workers he thought the student was wearing a whohoodie over her

it's going to be that way for the next few hours but the clouds started to roll in. the temperatures dropped significantly after the high today. into the upper 40s, the low 50s. 40 right now in d.c. you say, well, that's not too much colder but look around the suburbs, 38 martinsburg, 28 manassas. if the rain was to move in now, we'd be talking about sleet and freezing rain. that's not going to be the case, though, tomorrow morning. i think we're going to see the temperatures start to rise and the cloud cover is definitely coming in. no rain right now, not even close. you can take a look way back here towards parts of ohio. notice the cloud cover start to move in. that will put a blanket on the temperatures. the warm front you can see right here is starting to make its way in. and by the time we see the rainfall, it should be better. so funny. speaking of family members, my brother lives right here. it was 64 degrees today. he was grilling out.

of 36 degrees right now. so that's some of the colder air that's also moving across the east. so you know you're in for colder air sunday and monday. for us, 7:00 a.m., the cloud cover is here. above freezing hopefully because here comes some rain back to the west. look at the rain around 10:00. i-66 and 50 northward, that's the best chance for rain. if you live south of 66, you have a much less chance of rain in fredericksburg and waldorf. but even around 2:00 you are still looking at shower activity. then it moves out around 3:00 or 4:00. then you get a break. if you're going to dinner saturday night, you'll be okay. if you go out afterwards and there's a late-night movie, we have a frontal boundary moving through and wind will be out there. notice around 2:00, 3:00 a.m., it is still raining. a pretty good chance for not just rain but maybe heavy rain, then it starts to get a lot cooler out here by sunday morning. look at the

snow. maybe a couple inches of snow back there on sunday. the wind is going to be a big factor for us. first off, though, 59. around this time tomorrow night, could be in the low 60s. chance of showers. heaviest rain and it turns windy. winds could gust upwards of 50 to 50 miles per hour. that could my falling temperatures. falling through the 40s. we'll be in the 30s by sunday night. much colder conditions. waking up to wind chills on monday in the 20s as the kids are heading back to school and we're all heading back to work. 55 on your wednesday. right now tuesday looks like the best day of the next ten and that's just average. sunshine, 57 degrees thursday, thanksgiving temperature around 48. then we stay on the cool side, not quite cold but cool side into next weekend. there are signs, though, after that it will get really cold. >> whoa. >> good traveling weather for people. >> wednesday and thursday. >> coming up, the wizards going for their fifth straight win
