tweer tracki we're tracking the windy weather with lauryn ricketts. >> good morning, yeah, we've been tracking these winds. we knew it would be windy as we headed into the overnight hours and tloouf todhrough today. and we also had some rain. the front behind it, that is doctor we're seeing the winds, maybe even a few flurries out there today. yeah, maybe a few snowflakes first of the season. let's talk about it, let's go to the maps and show you the wind advisory until 3:00 for the area outlined in brown. now, if you are not outlined in brown, i've had a couple questions for culpeper, still breezy, but not in the wind advisory criteria. but we'll see wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour through the noon hour and then they settle down slightly. wind s at about 35 miles an hou this afternoon. we could have some power outages and flying debris. temperatures pretty much what you see is what you

but again the wind will continue to gust possibly up to 50 miles an hour through the first part of the day. what does your thanksgiving look like? that is coming up. and reminder that you can take our forecast with you wherever you go, just download our nbc washington app. and new this morning, one person is in custody after a security scare outside the white house. derrick ward is live there this morning with a look at what happened. >> reporter: good morning. as you can see, it's a pretty usual scene here for a weekend in front of the white house, which speaks to i guess the frequency of this kind of incident and how much they have become accustomed to dealing with them. it was about 7:30 this morning, we're told that someone tried to jump that lower barrier that was put into place specifically for this reason because of people trying to make it -- actually making it over the fence and on to the ground. and somebody actually got into the white house, wash

found. nothing that serious this morning. we don't have an identity on on the person. we know that he was taken into custody and the word that we got from the united states secret service is that he attempted to jump that loeter barricade. so he may not have even made it there. and as you can see, police officers are here all the time stationed here just because of that sort of incident. but as you can see also, tourist groups are here, people walking by, taking pictures as they normally would. so nothing untoward in appearances here except for that incident earlier today. live in front of the white house, derrick ward, news 4. and meanwhile the news 4 iteam has been looking into numerous breaches at the white house over the past couple years. they have also investigated what happened to the people who to get caught. you'll wand t to head to nbc washington app and search white house fence. d.c. police are trying to track down several suspects after two separate homicides. the first on 30

southeast which isn't far from naylor road. police say a man was shot and killed. no word on a suspect description. the other homicide happened in petworth close to an elementary school. one man was killed after a shooting on spring road northwest just before 2:00 this morning. the scene is right next to the raymond education campus. in this case police are searching for four men. the fbi meanwhile is looking for three missing teens from prince william county. the feds think that the teens may have left virginia. we'll show you the pictures of the missing girls. ashley and brianna are both 17, and shthe on other 18. people are looking for possibly a lon todhonda crv. and there have been a lot of

david cassidy is hospitalized with organ failure according to his publicist. he was taken to the hospital on wednesday in florida. he is in need of a liver transplant. you may remember back in february the partridge family star revealed that he was battling dementia. he's just 67. this morning the cousin of a fairfax county woman set on fire by her boyfriend is breaking her own silence about being the victim of domestic abuse. >> don't let dumb love or stuck on stupid be the kryptonite that could maybe get you killed. just seek help. >> diane walton came forward during the vigil for her cousin dee lda loris williams. williams was set on fire and she died from her injuries. williams was 64. and if you or someone you know is the victim of domestic violence, we have re

it's mighty chilly. temperatures in the 40s to right around 50 through the morning, but of course the main thing are the winds gusting up to 50 miles an hour as we go through at least the lunch hour. and then they will start to settle down slightly. gusting up to about 35 later on this afternoon. but breezy to down right windy all day long with windchills in the 20s and 30s. so we'll be talking about when the wind settles down and what you can expect for your travel day on wednesday. we'll give you the thanksgiving forecast as well coming up in about leathree minutes. flights across

to pick up criminals didn't sound out of the ordinary, but what if those flights were first class and you were footing the bill? >> a year long investigation by the news 4 iteam is raising questions about who is looking into a local sheriff department's travel. this is a story you will here o. >> reporter: a trip to las vegas with stays at the mgm grand, a long weekend right before christmas to san diego, room service every night at the omni hotel including crab. these trips weren't vacations. you paid for them. extraditions by the culpeper county sheriff's office in late 2015 to pick up fugitives. >> did you ever do an extradition? >> i have. >> is it a choice assignment? >> it is. >> reporter: extraditions aren't

unusual, but multiple deputies told the news team that it was the sheriff himself going on some of the trips. they asked us not to show their faces. >> does it seem odd to have a sheriff going on extradition trips? >> i think odd is a good word. >> reporter: when we first requested travel records for sheriff jen are continues, this is what we got. we do not have any records specific to the sheriff's travel. his travel does not require approval. only after challenging them did we get these vouchers, two pages, almost $3500 by sheriff and blackstock to pick up a man in vegas. and more than 4 grand to pick up one in san diego on forgery charges. >> the way it normally worked, if it was west of the mississippi, it was a three day extradition. >> reporter: they weren't paid for by the county, they said that they were reimbursed by the state. so the iteam got copies of the trips over two years from virginia supreme court which foots the bills.

we found trips totaling more than $34,000 and we found one thing we didn't expect. flying first class for an extradition, is that normal? >> absolutely not. we would fly regular coach. >> reporter: state records show while sheriff jenkins and blackstock spent $1300 to fly first class one way to vegas, and $1200 to san diego. two other deputies flew coach. that violates state policy. a spokesperson for the virginia supreme court told the iteam they are reviewing their internal processes to see why the first class flights which require prior approval were not flagged. for months the iteam tried to talk to the sheriff, but he didn't want to appear on camera. we stopped by a meeting of the public safety committee and even tracked him to the halloween event sponsored by the sheriff's department. when he saw us, he just drove away.

>> if there was any discrepancies or anything going on with the sheriff, we'd know about it. >> reporter: we did catch up with county board of supervisors chairman jack frazier. >> he's flying first class? the county is not paying for that. >> does that make it okay? >> as long as the county is not paying for it does. >> reporter: sheriff did e-mail saying he has been on 5 of 105 extraditions, and said he is aware of other sheriffs who do so. but eight local sheriffs contacted said they have not been on any extraditions. sheriff jenkins says he went on the trips to see how other larger jurisdictions operated. and as for the first class flights, he said i'm a big man, i need a big seat. even though state records show he did fly coach on the return flights with the prisoners. >> people in the department know it? >> yes. >> what are they saying about it?

now, overnight after about 8:00 tonight, the winds will settle down to about 10 to 15 miles an hour. and that is how it will feel tomorrow. but it is windy out there today. we're seeing gusts in the 20s and 30s. winchester, up to 37. so again, we will have those wind gusts potentially up to 50 miles an hour through about noon and then by this afternoon, they will settle down to about 35 miles per hour. after 8:00 tonight, they will die down. so if you are headed to the lady gaga concert or out and about, just know that it won't be quite as windy, but it will be breezy and then through much of the day tomorrow. temperatures right now, this is pretty much it. weal stay in the 40s and low 50s. may take it up in the afternoon. of course we have a little bit of a windchill out there especially in the shenandoah valley, feels like factor is in the 30s. so here is a look at your temperatures. we're staying static in the 40s and 50s, but the cold air is moving in. this is all behind the frontal system that

we had some rain earlier this morning, and that had moved pretty quickly well off the east coast. don't be surprised if you see a few flurries coming down on in breezy northwest wind. not going to create any robs, but again a few flurries possible with some of that snow that is lined up against the mountains in west virginia. they have some winter weather advisories in that area. so again snow possible out there. for us, we're looking good until wednesday, we're watching a coastal system. but the most part that will head out to see. so traveling looking good to us unless you're headed to the pacific northwest. but for us, we'll watch this coastal system headed down to the shores of north carolina, you could head into some of that rain. but we're dry here, temperatures around 50. by thanksgiving, temperatures in the 40s with sunny skies. i'm mark murray. president donald trump has insisted for months that the republican tax plan he supports won't benefit him. he

2016 presidential election. the london times published an interview today with rob goldstone, the british publicist who set up and attended the meeting at trump tower with donald trump jr. and the russian lawyer. according to this article, goldstone says that nothing unusual or inappropriate took place in the meeting and the meeting has emerged as a focus of robert mueller's investigation into whether the trump team colluded with russia. and this weekend democrats in virginia voted to hold a state run primary next year. they will try to unseat republican barbara comstock. ralph northham just won her district during the gubernatorial race. comstock will be on "meet the press" today. an treedrea mitchell is in for todd. she will also interview debbie dingell. it airs at 10:30 this morning right here on news 4. open up the window, taking a live look outside.

thanksgiving on the 10 day coming up. time is 9:32. and new this morning, the reward for information in the murder of a baltimore police officer has jumped. take a look, this is the new poster that is out. the he reward is now up to $215 a,000. detective sean suiter was gunned down wednesday. he is a husband, father of five. and he died the next day. suiter was investigating a homicide scene when someone shot him in the head. and despite a city wide search, police have not identified or arrested a suspect. they are pleading for help from the public. now to a warning about a potential danger on the side of the road. a controversial guardrail is being blamed for at least six deaths. and a news 4 investigation has found hundreds of them are on our roads in virginia and maryland. susan hogan shares what you need to know.

>> according to three lawsuits filed against the manufacture, instead of deflecting vehicles, the guardrail in some cases is actually piercing them with deadly consequences. steve is a father on a mission. >> i'm fighting so that no other family has to be here. >> reporter: it's been one year since his 17-year-old daughter, hannah, died. her car was pierced by a guardrail after she ran off the road. >> one guardrail at highway speeds, what it will do is horrific. >> reporter: he's now working tirelessly to get guardrails he calls dangerous off every road in the country. >> i can tell you that state d.o.t.s have raised significant concerns about how this product functions. >> reporter: hannah is one of four people killed in tennessee after hitting the ends of guardrails. according to lawsuits in those cases, each time the vehicle w

speared by the end terminal. it happened in virginia, too. sarah wineburg died last december on i-66. >> this system, it's a telescoping system, it pushes down section upon section and it absorbs energy and slows the vehicle down. so it's a control stop. you have a crash, but you don't have a fatality. >> and that didn't do that here. >> no. >> reporter: and take a look at these photos from saline county, missouri. they show a truck that was literally skewered this past february. the state tells us it was the x-lite, the driver killed. and in a statement to news 4, lindsay says it has successfully passed crash and safety tests and remains eligible for federal transportation funding. there is no road safety eqen

injury every time a driver fails to stay on the road. but x-lite has reduced the number and severity of injuries sustained. and while it remains on the federal highway administration list of approved products, at least 11 states, including virginia, have decided to stop using it. the virginia department of transportation issued this memo last year citing concerns over how the x-lite performed in crash tests. maryland says after reviewing guardrail crashes on its roads over the past year, it does not plan to pull the x-lite. >> we have no indication that this has been involved in any unusual situation. >> but it has been involved in other fatalities in other states. >> yes. >> isn't that concerning enough? >> i would tell you that the maryland department of transportation and all of us at the state highway administration are alwaon

street corridor in northeast right where the whole foods is. part of the maryland tag for the car is 5 ct. call police if you spot the car. and the police chief in annapolis is calling the shooting of a teen outrageous. police are calling on witnesses to come forward after a 17-year-old was shot in the head. it happened yesterday afternoon on president street in the middle of the day. police say the boy was walking with a group of people when someone in that group fired shots. everyone took off. the teen is now in critical condition. no word yet on the suspect description. time is 9:46. in the air force, the motto reads aim high, fly, fight, win. >> and no one is fighting or aiming higher than two young boys battling leukemia. >> as aimee cho reports, they got a chance to become pilots for the day and they showed us a few lessons about what it means to be brave.

this advised area in brown. that goes until 3:00. and then the winds will start settling down little by little later afternoon hours and then really after 8:00 tonight. but of course we have windchills in the 40s and 30s. even in the shenandoah valley, some of the windchills could bottom out in the 20s as we go through the day. temperatures will be in the 40s and low 50s today. they won't budge too much. and then we have pretty strong rain that went through last night. that front is well off the coast, but behind it, that is where we're getting the cold air and could also see a few flurries. you see some of that in western pennsylvania and west virginia. some of the flurries could ride along the coattails of the northwest winds and bring some light flurry activity to our area. not expecting anything, but i don't want anybody to be surprised if you see a snowflake. temperatures will be in the 40s and low 50s again with wind gusts. tomorrow upper 40s, a little bit of a lighter wind. 10 to 15 miles per hour with no gus
