here's what we know. the california department of corrections says manson died of natural causes. the convicted killer declared himself the devil. in 1969, manson said his followers to kill sharon tate and six others in the city of los angeles. he was sentenced to death but that was changed to life in prison when california supreme court temporarily abolished the death penalty. he came up for parole 12 times and was denied each time. back to you. >> baltimore police will lift a lockdown in the neighborhood where detective was shot last week. officer sean suiter died a day after being shot in the head. baltimore police have kept the crime scene roped off since then. suiter was a father of five. a go fund me page set up by a family raised more than $13,000 since yesterday. posted a link to it in the nbc

washington app. a d.c. fire ems captain says his family is being targeted by criminals during the darkest point in their lives. jonathan street's mother and sister were hurt during a fire. both have been in the hospital since last sunday. street says vandals have broken into their capital heights home several times. it's a distraction he doesn't need as he focuses on his family. >> this is the toughest thing i've ever experienced. i mean, everything can be replaced. but my mother and my sister can't be. >> great. smoke alarms were working in the house. mother was released from an intensive care unit. his sister still in a coma in critical condition. as you can see here, her hospital room is filled with get well messages in northwest d.c. >> this morning, american university is warning students to be aware of what's going on around them. someone was sexually

she said simmons was behaving inappropriately while showing a music video in her apartment. he remembers the weekend with her. but says everything was consensual. alabama's top newspaper, the birmingham news is urging voters to reject roy moore. the editorial comes after multiple women are alleging that moore sexually abused them. one victim says she was just 14 years old at the time. the newspaper's message may be getting across to voters. >> i am a lifelong republican. but i have always voted for the person and i'm just not going to be able to vote for roy moore. >> moore hasn't spoken out about these allegations yet. president trump has also remained quiet. but the president did tweet out against minnesota senator al franken who is also being accused of sexual abuse. today, route 404 will fully reopen with more lanes between route 50 and

i'm chris lawrence at the live desk with more breaking news. this morning, several people are without a home after an electrical fire overnight. take a look. i just retweeted. montgomery county fire officials. they put out these pictures of some of the damage. this home is along republic road in silver spring off glenn haven drive. you can see some of that damage there. officials say the fire started in a basement bedroom. burned pretty rapidly. the saving grace was no one was home at the time. no one hurt in the fire. aaron, back to you. >> chris, thank you. take a look at this, folks. this bt

circles off the coast of california yesterday afternoon. take a look at that picture. just a quarter of a mile offshore, apparently. >> one person was found on the boat unresponsive. but the coast guard believes there was someone else on board. search for that second person is now under way. we have new video for you this morning out of new york city. a large wind is said to be to blame for this scaffolding collapse yesterday afternoon. the large wooden planks and metal bars all over the street. several people had minor injuries. a wind advisory was in effect at the time of the collapse. that could have been much worse. today marks two months since hurricane maria decimated puerto rico. people are still in dire need of help. on sunday morning, demonstrators marched through d.c. with one message for the people of pouero ri rico, you are not forgotten.

assaulted on campus. police are warning students and really anyone who lives nearby to be aware of what's going on around them. this happened early sunday morning on massachusetts avenue. campus police tell us the attacker drove the victim to campus in a hired car. investigators didn't say whether it was a cab or someone hired through a ride sharing app. it's not clear if the victim is a student at a.u. d.c. police are investigating what happened. eun? thank you. >> the drama surrounding ucla's basketball team is now spreading to washington. you remember that we told you last week that three student athletes were rescued for shoplifting in china. >> the president is regretting his decision to help with their release. he tweeted that i should have left them in jail. lavar ball was in -- the president called the father very ungrateful after ball down played the president's role in his son's release. all three players thanked the president during a
