crews are watching it as well. leon, we're going to keep an eye on this. for now we'll get back to you. >> we were looking at this. it looks like it was going to come down, but perhaps they are still trying to burn more fuel off of that. scott, let's keep an eye on this, and folks, we'll keep you posted on this. we're trying to track where this plane is coming from. >> i was won derling if it has a landing gear issue. remember back in the -- remember back in the day they used to say foam the runway? i don't know if they have a new way of doing that so they don't have to do that, but they've been doing that for decades. but because as we see, he is flying -- it is stable. he looks -- if we didn't know, we wouldn't know. it looks like everything is fine. but i don't see his landing gear down. >> no. >> so, that tends to indicate that maybe it is not going to come down. of course, then you have the friction from the bottom of that plane on the asphalt can cause some sparking. >> looking at the registration number here on the tag of the tail of the plane, trying to get i

we are going to take you back live. this is an airplane that is coming in for an emergency landing in st. mary's county. at the st. mary's county airport which is in hollywood, maryland. its landing gear is failing to drop down. the pilot has been circling to burn off excess fuel so that when he makes what will be, what's called a belly landing on the runway, that any sparks that are there will not set off a fire. we have heard there is one
4:15 pm
person on the plane and as we've been watching him -- him or her, the plane is gliding peacefully through the skies. the plane itself is not in distress. it is just that the landing gear does not drop down and, of course, that can create an emergency situation. i was just looking at -- remember back in the day when we used to talk about foaming the runway where they put fire suppression foam down on the runway? the faa no longer recommends that any more, that just letting them land this way -- although we do understand they have fire apparatus obviously standing by on the runway. you're looking at live pictures, by the way, of chopper 4 which is flying nearby this plane and that's how we are getting these pictures. we were expecting -- we were hearing that there would be a landing right around 4:15. it is now 4:15. so, again, it takes awhile to burn off fuel, and i guess they don't have the ability just to hit a dump button and release
4:16 pm
>> not on a plane this size. i've seen that happen actually with larger jumbo jets. >> oh, they do have that. >> they are able to go over the ocean and dump their fuel. this is if -- those of you out there who are familiar with aircraft, this is a piper pa-30, twin engine plane here. i don't know exactly how many people are capable of flying on board this. but as wendy said, there is only one person right now. we are getting word they are actually beginning now to make the turn toward the runway. this is at st. mary's county airport in hollywood just northeast of leonard town if you're familiar with the area. there is a 4,000 foot-long runway which is just shy of a mile long. so, they are down there, waiting for this to come in, and take this, what is anticipated to be a hard landing coming in. as you can see it is turning and coming toward the camera. we can't see the runway itself. no idea exactly how far out it is, but we will keep our eye on th

back to our live coverage of this plane coming in, now this piper pa-30 is landing at st. mary's county airport just northeast of leonard town, it is now trying to come down without using its landing gear as you see there it does not have any landing gear down. we believe that's the reason why it is making this emergency landing. we were told it was flying around the area to try to burn off some fuel. this particular plane carries 90 gallons. it actually has four fuel

edge of the wings there. they don't have the ability to dump it all off at once so they had to fly around to try to get some of that, the 90 gallons of fuel burned off. now it looks like he's making a turn coming in. >> by the way, we are on a 30-second delay. so if this ends badly, we will cutaway from it. we will not show that to you out of respect for the pilot and to his family. but so far we are staying with it until they tell us to cut away. at this point it looks like -- >> this is the lowest it's brch. it -- been. it is obviously coming in for a landing. the propellers, the two engines on the plane, those may have impact when it comes down. >> pilots are trained to make this kind of emergency landing because the landing gear failing to drop is as old as aviation, you know. my father is a retired airline pilot, was a retired airline pilot and we said back in the day, decades ago, they used to put fire suppression foam on the

they don't do that in america any more. i was reading the faa no longer recommends that. so, the fire apparatus is standing by, of course, and the pilot, i'm sure, is trained to do this. he's done all the right things so far. he or she. >> chopper 4 up in the area, we have not been able to talk to the people in our chopper to say what they are seeing on the ground waiting for this to come down. we've kept the camera trained on the plane. it is hard to get a sense of how high up it is. it's banking coming in. the buildings are coming into view. >> there's the airport. hey, scott, what do you know? can you add to this? >> yeah, we are getting very close to shopping centers now. this is a heavy, heavy residential area and a commercial area. in 15, 20 seconds you'll see him right over the parking lot of a lowe's and a crowded parking lot of a lowe's. this is a four-seat plane registered out of southern delaware. it is making an approach now. again, over parking lolts. getting much close tort

airport, hollywood maryland, state route 4, the bridge over solomon. the pilot appeared uninjured and the plane itself being inspected. backs to you, leon. >> the plane came down so gent bely. it's likely the plane will be flying again soon. >> you don't think about that. we think, hey, the plane landed, it's good. but that's a working airport and they don't have but a couple run ways there and that's it. >> we have to get someone down there to talk to that pilot and let them know what that was like, what was going on, what happened there, and when he got out of that plane -- >> he's the zen master. >> casually walked away. >> he sauntered like he was going to pickup a cup of coffee. >> no doubt he's going to enjoy his thanksgiving. he has a lot to be thankful for. >> let's talk about meals and thanksgiving celebrations. a lot of folks will be traveling for thanksgiving and that often means grabbing a meal while you're on the road. >> healthy fast food options can be hard to come by. what about the places that let you build your own

>> better for you, huh? first at 4:00 consumer reporter susan hogan here to break it all down for us. >> so, grain bowls are all the rage, right? i actually switched to grain bowls lately because i'm thinking they're healthier alternative. but are they? so, we are here joined by dr. taylor wallace. we went to four different restaurants that are really known for their grain bowls. let's take a look. >> so, grain bowls can be either really healthy or they can be really bad for you. it really just matters what you put on the grain bowl. >> okay. >> so, let's start out with kava. this base is saffron rice. to make this more healthy, what you would do is add brown rice because regular rice, your body breaks it down into sugar very quickly and absorbs it. so, it spikes that blood sugar very easily. now, with the brown rice, you have a lot of dietary fiber. it hasn't been bleached like the white rice has. and so you get a very slow
4:49 pm
you get a ton of vitamins and minerals. >> let's move on to chipotle. how are you doing? >> chipotle is a good example where it can be either really healthy or really bad for you. the one you have on the screen is probably not so healthy for you. it has 1080 calories which is over half you're calories for the day. again, if i were going to make this healthy, i'd start with brown rice and then i would eliminate the sour cream. they put that big scoop of sour cream on there. that's probably at third of the calories in the whole dish. remove a little bit of the cheese. sometimes i have a sprinkle of chee cheese because it does have kauls yum, it provides flavor to the feed. what you can do with chipotle, i add pico de gallo. it's only 20 calories. >> let's move to bei bei bop. >> what i love about this one is it has purple rice. this is a passion of mine. what makes the rice

the anthocyanons. i've been studying this compound several years. it lowers cholesterol and helps heart disease. purple rie purple rice is a good thing, it's whole grain. the other thing i found interesting about this bowl is it had an egg in there. most people don't realize that eggs are the number one source of choline in the diet. it is important for cognitive function, especially cognitive development in infants. so, if you're a pregnant woman or about to be pregnant, it's really important that you consume egg yolks every day. >> sweet greens, 780 calories. this bowl is one of the prepared bowls called the pes pesto portobello. good, bad? >> this looks healthy from first sight. it has a lot of sodium and a lot of fat in the product. that's because most of the vegetables are sauted in oil. if you were going to create the
4:51 pm
same dish at home, you could make this with raw vegetables and lose a lot of that sodium and oil in the product. >> okay. so, all in all, just to kind of wrap this all up, dr. wallace, are grain bowls on the surface a healthier alternative? >> they can actually be pretty healthy. what you really have to watch out for, again, are the toppings. the sour cream, the cheeses, the sauces that are so yummy because those can provide a lot of that sodium and a lot of saturated fat and calories. >> thank you so much, dr. wallace, for joining us. we really appreciate it. now we are building healthier bowls and we're on our way. back to you guys. >> good advice. >> who knew? >> purple riels, gce, got to ke eye out for that. >> that might be that forbidden rice they talk about. >> okay. drinking from reusable water bottles an easy way to save money be green and mostly, importantly, stay healthy, right? >> not so much. those containers can be pretty germy. a team from treadmill reviews.com swabbed the lids of a dozen reab

used by athletes. turns out each one contained about a thousand times more bacteria than the average dog toy. one that your dog has been chewing on. enough germs to make you sick. bottles with the slide tops were the germy ests. the ones with the straw tops were the cleanest. researchers say it doesn't mean you should toss the containers. wash them regularly and why people don't i don't get that. >> hot water, lots and lots of hot water. >> your hands are sweaty, you keep grabbing the nozzle, mouth piece or whatever. if you reuse it, it's not every day. you're constantly touching it and taking it around you. >> i would guess most people think, it's mine, it's my germs so it should be okay. maybe not. >> weather wise, let's talk about -- >> thanksgiving, how is it looking? >> it's looking chilly and dry for thanksgiving, highs in the 40s. mo more on that in a moment. forecast tomorrow will
