onto the ground. going to give you exclusive pictures of chopper 4 of that landing. let me give you live pictures now. it's still -- the plane is still on the runway. rescue teams, rescue crews and a crew with a large crane have now surrounded the airplane to try to move this thing off of the largest functional runway at st. mary's regional airport near hollywood maryland. safe landing after nearly two hours of flying to burn off fuel by this pilot after reporting problems with his landing gear. wendy, back to you. >> just what we want to see. now to some new details, this is an attack that occurred on the campus of american university. >> a woman says a man posing as an uber driver sexually assaulted her. >> now we've learned the suspect in the case had been banned from the uber app. >> let's get to news4's kristin wright live on the au campus. kristin, are you learning? >> reporter: he was an uber driver a

uber banned him in 2015. surveillance video, court documents say surveillance video shows that uber stickers still on his car the night a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted here at au. now, those same court documents also say she saw that uber sticker and so she flagged down the driver near dupont circle. he picked her up and she thought they were on their way. but when they got to au, police say he ordered her out of the car and sexually assaulted her near the asbury building on campus. it was around 3:30 in the morning on sunday. it is upsetting to au students. >> scary, because there's no one out so like anything could happen. and like the emergency things are kind of too spread out for you to probably run to run one. >> i understand the idea of being sexually assaulted and being in a position like that because, like, it does take a big

of impact emotionally and mentally and physically. >> reporter: he appeared in kouft just a little while ago. he's charged with sexual assault and kidnapping. and just a safety tip to pass along from police. they say whenever you're using one of these ride sharing services, to always make the request for the ride through the app. back to you. >> and again, the problem was that she saw him and was using him as a taxi and that she just hailed him in that way. because of that sticker, that ubiquitous sticker we see makes us think it is legitimate. this is a good warning for everybody. >> reporter: you know what, it really is. he hadn't driven for uber since 2015. the reasons why we don't know, but that is a disciplinary action was taken against him for some reason. >> all right, kristin wright, thanks so much. good luck from there. >>

driver has been placed on leave and an aid has resigned both accused of assaulting a young boy with autism twice in one week. police tell us the incidents happened last month on a fairfax county school bus. the driver james duffy third, and edmond bailey are charged tonight with one count each of assault and battery. officers tell us the staff member witnessed the second assault of the 11-year-old boy. school officials recovered surveillance video on board that bus. >> go, go, go. >> remember this, the chaos that erupted in the district on inauguration day? more than 200 people arrested. today the first group of protesters charged with rioting went on trial and as news4's mark segraves reports, the crowd that turned out for this case were so big, officials had to open an overflow courtroom.

and destruction of property. they were all arrested on january 20th. after protests on downtown streets turned violent. with windows being smashed and a limousine set on fire. many were swept up in a mass arrest at 12th and l streets. >> let them go. >> reporter: at times protesters and police faced off as police used chemical spray and air balls to disperse the crowd. today prosecutors told the jury how hundreds of protesters dressed in black traveled for 16 city blocks over the course of 33 minutes, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. the prosecutor called it a sea of black masks worn to disguise their faces, adding those maximums come off today. while prosecutors acknowledge they can't prove any of the defendants actually threw any bricks at police or destroyed property or lit fires, prosecutors id

made a choice to participate in a riot, to participate in violence, and destruction. the defense attorneys told the jury police overreacted and violated policy by arresting everyone in the area rather than only the ones who actually destroyed property. this is guilt by association, their lawyers insisted. outside the courthouse, supporters of those arrested agreed. >> we should be really scared if they start using riot law for political protest. >> reporter: they are facing prison if convicted on all charges. this trial is expected to last several weeks. nearly 200 other defendants will also face trials in the next year and a half. at d.c. superior court, mark segraves, news4. >> commuters on i-66 are bracing for huge changes in two separate stretches. first, new toll lanes are set to take effect inside the beltway. now, that begins december 4th. next even more express lanes are being built from gainsville all the way to the beltway. a groundbreaking was held today for that part

stoddart school is surrounded by sidewalks. that's because it's right next to a community. so, when school is out, a lot of these kids are walking home, and now a predator is taking advantage of that. this mother is walking her daughter to school after what happened two weeks ago. >> when i was walking to school and a man that was in his car and he was playing with his private parts. and it scared me that night and i couldn't go to sleep. >> reporter: the mother and daughter don't want their faces shown. >> he purposely roll his window down so the kids could see what he was doing. >> reporter: then a second incident is reported near benjam benjamin stoddart middle school. the victim was a boy. >> when the second child reported it is when the detective was assigned to the case. >> we have additional resources in the area and we're doing everything we can to find this individual. >> reporter: police don't have the best description to go on.

of sexual harassment. women say he groped them, made lewd calls, walked around naked in their presence. the 75-year-old hosts a show on pbs and co-hosts the cbs this morning program. >> a second has nwoman has come forward about senator al franken. this woman told cnn he grabbed her rear end when they posed for a photo at the minnesota state fair. she says this was back in 2010. now, that's a year after franken became a u.s. senator. franken told cnn he does not recall taking the picture. last weekend l.a. radio host accused franken ever groping and forcibly kissing her more than a decade ago. franken said he will fully cooperate with an ethics investigation. this evening we are also hearing from the first woman who accused alabama senate candidate roy moore of sexual misconduct. lee korver man

washington post that she was just 14 when a then 32-year-old moore made sexual advances on her. she said she went to his home where he undressed her and tried to get her to touch him. she spoke with savannah guthrie on the today show. >> i pulled back and said that i was not comfortable and i got dressed and he took me home. but i was at 14-year-old child trying to play in an adult's world and he was 32 years old. >> roy moore denies these allegations and further says he does not even know you. >> i wonder how many "me's" he doesn't know. >> she said she tried on more than one occasion to confront moore but couldn't. she said she has not received any money for this. >> this time of year college students are usually coming home, ending a long semester of work. for a family in rockville, they had to make

to south carolina after their son died in a moped crash. police say david newell hit by a drunk driver not far from the university of south carolina where he was a senior. newell's family spoke to news4's meagan fitzgerald. >> reporter: david newell was a proud graduate of mcgruder high school. his family says he was one of those guys who everyone loved to be around. >> david was an amazing person. he was smart and funny. >> reporter: david's sister brady sitting next to his sister annette and long-time girlfriend rachel thomas said on wednesday night their lives changed when they received a call. >> there wasn't much hope for his survival but they would try to maintain him on life support until we could get there to say good-bye. >> reporter: david was on his moped heading to his home in south carolina when he was struck and killed by a drunk driver. >> he was an advocate for not drinking and driving. and he wrote a speech in school.

performed any better, that was picture-perfect textbook. his landing gear refused to drop. this was at st. mary's regional airport. a little more than an hour ago. he was the only one on board and he sauntered off the plane and moseyed on up to the fire people and said, you know, as if he does this every day. >> every day. >> good for him. well, we're going to begin 5:30 with a story that may force someone to think twice the next time you get behind the wheel after you've been drinking. >> yeah, we learned today a spo spotsylvania main will spend the expect decade in prison phone to a crash that killed two friends riding in his car. >> chris gord ton spoke to the parents of a young woman killed that night. it was her 21st birthday. this is an interview you will see only on news4. >> reporter: this was shot in a cruiser. this is the first time this evidence is being shown publicly. you can see the truck that crashed in a ball of flames, flipped over on the side of the road. two l

seat, but sheriff's deputies didn't know that and couldn't try to save them at the time because the driver of the truck, brendan scheneman, denied that he knew anything about the accident when he was questioned. >> i want to know what happened right here. >> that's not my problem. >> were you in the vehicle? >> no, sir. >> reporter: it turns out 26-year-old brendan scheneman was speeding and driving drunk on robert e. lee drive the night of january 12th, killing his roommate taylor wolf, the father of three children, his oldest of 5-year-old son and two daughters. the youngest born after the accident. the other person killed, chelsea favro, was celebrating her 21st birthday that night. her mother testified she lost her best friend. >> chelsea was universally adored for being genuine and kind and beautiful, and the world was a darker place in a te

afford to be any darker. this is a tremendous loss. >> reporter: brendan shan man is sentenced to ten years in prison or for manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol. in court he apologized to the families saying, i'm not a monster. i never intended what happened. before scheneman was taken out of the courtroom to begin serving his sentence, he asked for a favor. he asked to hug his mother. the judge said, i'm sorry, i cannot let you do that. reporting from the spotsylvania county courthouse, chris gordon, news4. >> there is an effort underway to bring the world cup to our region. the news4 i-team has learned that reps from both maryland and the district went to houston last week to present pitches for the 2026 world cup. d.c. proposing fedex field and landover as a host site. maryland offering raven stadium. maryland team also said towson, unbc goucher, and potentially the university of maryland could also be training

25 u.s. cities vying to be the official u.s. bid for -- to bring fifa for the cup. >> today marks exactly two months since hurricane maria made land fall in puerto rico and people there are still in dire need of help after both maria and hurricane irma. a unity rally was held in the district on sunday for puerto rico. nearly half of the island remains without power still and as doreen gentzler reports tonight, that is impacting medical care here on the main land. doreen? >> i canyeah, that's right, jim. this may be the beginning. some medical facilities are still running on generator power and medical factories. many aren't running at all. more than 50 medical manufacturing plants are based in puerto rico. collectively they manufacture more than a thousand different kinds of medical devices and products including everything from surgical instruments and dental products as well as cardiac pacemakers and insulin pumps. many iv fluid bags used in medical centers a

country are also made in puerto rico, particularly the kind with sodium chloride. we call them saline solution. saline iv fluid bags we use to inject drugs intravenously in hospitals and outpatient facilities, they can be used for rehydration in an emergency room, for example, or mixed wit chemotherapy for cancer patients. and right now they are in critically short supply. the food and drug administration which oversees this has been monitoring the situation and has said it will allow the temporary importation of iv saline products from outside the u.s. while this shortage is happening. production at facilities in the u.s. and the main land u.s. will also be expanding to meet the demand and the fda says it will continue to monitor the supply. but getting full power restored is key in puerto rico. puerto rico lured a lot of pharmaceutical production facilities to the island because they wanted the jobs

tomorrow. no rain in the forecast. a cold start, but not bad by the afternoon hours. take a look. a high tomorrow of 59. so, about 5 to ten degrees warmer than today. here's the thing. it will be breezy out there. a little bit of chill but plenty of sunshine. i think overall if you're walking about to and from your car, maybe going out to grab lunch, hey, it's tuesday, it's not too bad. but if you're getting out of town and traveling with that forecast, we'll send it over to lauren. for the most part good travel weather tomorrow, right, lauren? >> yeah, great travel weather for tomorrow. in fact, we are looking at temperatures that are right around 60 degrees you just showed. plenty of sunshine. now, we get into wednesday we'll have more clouds moving in tuesday night into wednesday, maybe a few sprinkles as well especially up towards baltimore. a frontal system will come through wednesday night, bringing temperatures down wednesday. a few spotty sprinkles. i do not believe it will impact your travel. if you're leaving overnight into wednesday morning. but also a little coastal system that could bring rain showers, anywhere from north carolina, the coast line all the way up to

morning and pretty much the midday hours on wednesday. you can see around here the mid-atlantic, we are try back off to the midwest. we are dry for your wednesday travel. so, looking fantastic or your wednesday travel. in fact, here, again, rain along the eastern seaboard. there could be some lake effect snow showers in western pennsylvania, new york, nothing you can't deal with. wet pacific northwest, up by seattle, but again most of the united states going to be dry. amelia, you were talking about some record heat from california for wednesday into thursday for thanksgiving. looks like los angeles all the way down to southern california, san diego, will be record breaking heat, temperatures are going to be in the 90s in those areas. i don't think we'll make it up to there in our ten-day forecast. one can dream. >> yeah, kexactly, right? if you are heading out to the southwest, like lauren said, we're talking record heat, 80s and 90s for the thanksgiving holiday. if you're sticking around here quite a different forecast for the redskins game thursday night. the game is here on nbc. great night to hunker

there, wasn't it? chopper 4 captured this drama and we brought it to you live this evening. the pilot performed a belly landing here at the st. mary's county regional airport. >> the pilot count get his landing gear to come down so he circled the airport for at least two hours trying to burn off fuel. everything about the landing was textbook. he walked away from the plane without any injury. if you want to watch the entire landing, go to the nbc washington app. now to an urgent warning for anyone who uses those ride sharing services. >> this is beyond disturbing. a local woman allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a man posing as an uber driver. the victim told police she hailed the ride around 3:20 sunday morning. moments later she was forced out and attacked on american university's campus as the suspect faces the judge, new details tonight about his past are coming to light, including claims that he was banned from uber back in 2015.
